Today, we're going to be taking a look at the panel lock heavy duty spring release latch. Spring latches can be used for a variety of applications. This one has that built-in hinge aspect of it, too, so the best of both worlds. Spring latches are reliable and used primarily on hinged doors and panels. The unit does feature nice, smooth, trouble-free action. It's going to provide easy access, as well as secure closure.
This internal spring provides positive pin release and return. The pin is able to lock in the closed or fully open position, so that's a nice design, as well. It's got an easy grip coating over the end of the handle. The base contains three pre-drilled mount holes. Mounting hardware is not included. This is a zinc plated steel construction.
Pin diameter is 3/8ths of an inch. The extension of how far the pin hangs off the housing there is about 1 1/8th of an inch. The body, that's going to give us a length measurement of about 3 1/2 inches. The body width is about an inch and a quarter. The overall depth of the unit, from back to front, is about 1 inch to 1 1/8th of an inch, depending on the orientation of the handle.
From the mounting surface to the center of the pin is around 5/16ths of an inch. The overall length with it in this position, that's going to give us a measurement of about 4, I want to say about 4 3/4's of an inch. The mount holes on this are separated on center by 1 3/8ths of an inch. Centered on center is 1 3/8ths. Center on center is 1 3/8ths.
The hole diameter is 1/4 of an inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the panel lock heavy duty spring release latch.

Zinc-plated steel construction.After years of using bungee cords to hold the gate of my trailer from bouncing out and falling off the end of my trailer I decided to buy these spring release latches. Very glad I did...Easy to instal and work much better than my old method. Hope the stand up to the weather (rain & snow).
I used the latch on my Jeep tailgate. Combined with the left hand latch they made a perfect pair to keep my tailgate secure even in the harshest off roading adventures.
Not my first order from etrailer and definitely not my last. My only complaint would be in the packing of small or fragile items loosely in a box with heavier items. One of the trailer light mounts was broken when it got here. No other issues though.

I used this to latch a sliding drawer holding a 3,000W generator in the open position on one of our service trucks. So far it seems to be holding up fine. It only gets used when the vehicle is stationary, so it's not subjected to any bouncing loads, but for what we're using it for there haven't been any issues.

Its been a year already and the latch is working just as good as the day it was installed. I still think that it is a 5-star product!
