Ellena: Hey everyone. I'm Ellena here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the JR products interior L-handle. This is going to be a replacement for a little L-handle that maybe got broken somewhere along the line, damaged or maybe just worn out and needs a new upgrade. So, this is going to fit any kind of square peg that has a 5/16 inch distance. As you can see there's a little eight pointed star in there, so you can have it in a couple different angles to make sure that you get it lined up properly.But the distance between those side to side for an actual square to fit in there is 5/16 of an inch.
It also has a set screw on the sides, so you can make sure that that's tightened down and secure. The opening for that, or the hex key that will fit in there is going to be a 5.30 inaudible 00:00:53 or a four millimeter hex key or Allen wrench. Excuse me. As far as the overall length of our handle, it's about three and a half inches long from that curved edge to the front here. The widest point, it's about an inch wide.
The top there, the very bottom, it's about 3/8 of an inch.The cylinder here is about 5/8 for that outer portion. The length coming off of our handle is about one and 1/8. The distance between the center of our set screw to the end is about 3/8 of an inch. Overall, length that's going to stick out, or depth that's going to stick out is about one and .. Excuse me.
One and 3/8 of an inch. So, should get you out and rolling, enjoying your RV again without thwarting door handle.It is covered by JR product's lifetime warranty, and that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the JR products interior L-handle. We are converting a 2002 shuttle bus into an RV. We needed interior door handles for the back and side doors. Emailer had what we needed at a reasonable price, and they work perfectly.
I bought this because my truck canopy has sagged with age, and the traditional L-handles are a touch too small to actually lock the canopy. Also, traditional handles only mount on a 90 degree angle and I could see if I could mount mine 15 degrees counter clockwise, that it would lock more securely.
The issues with this piece: You don't have as much adjustability in mounting angle as I would like. Basically, the star allows you to mount it ONE extra position in between the usual 90 and 180. There would need to be more star points for this to actually be functional for me. That is: the star pattern is two boxes overlaid onto each other, 3 boxes would have given me the ability to really adjust the angle of mounting.
The main issue, however, is the locking mechanism. This piece uses an allen wrench screw to lock onto the main shaft and only has at max 3 threads inside the L handle. And when you mount it on an angle, as I was trying to do, it has only 1 thread inside the L handle. Predictably: the inner threads sheared off the first time I tried tightening it.
I'm returning it because it is completely unusable.
