There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle.
The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.
If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.
Dexters are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.
Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.
The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.
On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)
To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)
Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

Really good solid axle... I needed the mounting tabs moved and had a metal fabricator do the work for $20.00. This was used on an old boat trailer that I turned into a utility trailer. Also swapped out the springs with ones purchased from etrailer too. To complete the package I ordered (3) 165/65-8 trailer tires. The trailer tows straight and hauls everything I've ever needed to.
I ordered my axle kit and received it 30 days later, I expected it in a week. The hubs, U-bolt kit, springs and grease were shipping in a box, when I receive it the heavy parts had smashed the grease tube, and was quite the mess in the box. The U-bolt kit I ordered as suggested by etrailer was the wrong kit and the bolts were short (their system did not suggest the right kit for the thicker springs). I see there is a kit I could have ordered with longer bolts. When I went to tighten the lug bolts on the new hub I received, one bolt started to pull through the hub. I reported the grease problem to etrailer, they could not care less, so I thought it would not be worth my time to report the other issues. I guess I will purchase new u-bolts, grease, and perhaps a hub somewhere else.
This product is everything promised. The wonderful salesperson on the other end of the telephone, (Jean P.) made sure that everything went smoothly. The parts were complete and well packaged for shipping. The order even arrived a day early! I cruised all of my local stores (no one had the right combination of parts) and the internet (companies not responding to requests for information) for a week before settling on etrailer.com and I then placed my order within 1 minute of making the phone call to them. They had and knew exactly what I needed. Great Job guys!

I use this trailer nearly everyday hauling all sorts of combinations of weights and lengths of lumber and household items. The axle has held up very well and has become the least of my concerns when on the road. Ive recommended the company many times over the course of the year and will continue to do so. Again, great job guys!
Was an easy install and has held up great Since 2019. I've drug this trailer everywhere and off road too!
Missing parts. I've been in contact with customer service all week, I still don't have the missing parts.

I bought a axle, springs wheels, hubs etc. to build a utility trailer, I inadvertently had ordered incompatible hubs for the selected axle the person filling the order noticed this and contacted customer service to alert them of the issue who then called me to correct the problem. This saved me the time and expense of returning the part and delaying the project. great service, attentive, knowledgeable employees and great products.

initially had one side that was running warm. i got the axel with the top off capability after packing the bearings with grease. i think it pushed too much in there and i backed off the nut a touch and it has been perfect for the year it's been installed. three 1000 mile trips to the desert and lots of wood hauling and no issues. support agreed with me about not forcing too much grease in there and told me to back the nut off. forgot to say that,
The illustration shows the hubs and bearings installed. Not so! The bearings, hubs, lug nuts, and dust covers were all packed together - both sets in one box. Both dust covers were badly bent - they would work, but your new installation would look shoddy. Luckily, the bearings and seals did not appear damaged.
This is my second order from the etrailer.com. The items that I have ordered from them are exactly like they are described. And this replacement axle is a perfect fit for my small kit utility trailer. I'm looking forward to using the EZ-lube feature next year. It was also very simple to pack the bearings for the first time. I replaced my trailer axle on my 4 x 8’ Harbor Freight trailer. After a year the axle looks and performs like new.

This axle and springs are perfect for what I was looking to accomplish. Trailer tows straight and true and has saved me with large items on several occasions. I no longer have to drive 45 minutes to borrow a truck to haul stuff...
