Recommended Replacement Axle for Harbor Freight Folding Trailer 62671

Question:

Hello - I have a Harbor Freight 4X8 folding/tilt trailer model 62671. Id like to replace the axle and leafsprings. Hub-face-to-hub-face length is 56 inches and spring-center-to-spring-center length is 47 inches. Id also like the axle hub to have 5 on 4-1/2 Bolt Pattern. What size should I order? Thanks

While there are stock axles that are close to the measurements you mentioned, there is not one that's an exact match to the existing axle on your Harbor Freight trailer; in order to get an exact match you'll need to special order a replacement from a local axle dealer.

With that said, if you wanted to do some welding, the CE Smith Trailer Axle w/ Idler Hubs - EZ Lube Spindles - 5 on 4-1/2 - 57-1/2" Long - 1.8K # CE33201GA-HUB could be made to work if you remove and re-tack the spring seats. You could make that adjustment to get this axle to fit your trailer and it comes with 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern hubs, like you're seeking.

The only other alternative would be an axle-less suspension system like the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System with Hubs - 5 on 4-1/2 - Regular Tires - 2,000 lbs # A20RS545, which replace the need for a traditional axle and are a common solution I recommend to odd length trailer axles. This system will also replace your leaf springs and comes with 5 on 4-1/2" hubs, so it's going to give you everything you want in one package.

If you need to replace your leaf springs you will need to measure from the eye bolt hole on one end to the eye bolt hole, then choose the closest length that matches your trailer's capacity and mounting method; often times leaf springs will stretch out over time, so your worn springs will likely be longer than your replacement springs. I've linked our entire selection of leaf springs for you to check out if you decide to go the traditional axle route.
