The locking tailgate has built-in louvers that reduce drag, and it mounts securely with rotary latches and coated cables.The product went together without any problems and it was pretty much set explanatory. Fit is great and the tailgate shuts very easily. This was installed on my 2017 Ram 3500. The truck is brown and the black tailgate blends in very well.
After I installed this tailgate, I can never go back to the original! The photo speaks for itself. East assembly with no adjustment for proper fit. Installed on 11-1 more than 10 compliments on 11-2. A must have even if you don’t have a 5th wheel..
Wasn't very happy with it. Looks good. But no where for a backup camera. I'm also not happy with the plastic.
I didn’t realize how flimsy and plastic this tailgate was when I bought it, but that’s on me for not reading the the entire description I suppose. I don’t think it was worth the purchase but it did save me some cost over a replacement oem tailgate that would have to be painted to match. I hate that it only has a 100lb capacity. Also closing it is a 2 part process, you have to slam one side then push hard on the other side to ensure both sides are latched, this is due to it’s flimsy plastic construction. My kids are constantly jumping oin and off the tailgate at the ranch before, so now I can only be worried that it will break. If they made a steel version with ORM camera mount this would be a great product. As for now time will tell but I’m not convinced it will hold up over time.
Love how it looks and will help prevent mistakes while loading my fifth wheel camper.
Easy to install, and makes connecting 5th wheel a breeze. I only wish it was rated higher for standing weight.

Yes I did move the OEM camera to the "O" in Stromberg.
For the price this is a decent tailgate. It is a good looking tailgate, has a lock which is important to me install while not difficult, could have been made easier with better instructions. Closing is not as crisp as I would like and a far cry from the OEM tailgate. Still in all it should serve my needs to allow easy hookup with my 5th wheel and to keep gear in the truck bed while traveling. For those looking for an inexpensive but decent tailgate this is a good choice.
Fit was simple and it looks nice on my 2018 Ram 2500. I lost my backup camera, but hope to get a replacement that will plug directly into the OEM connector at the tailgate. Stromberg Carlson has one, Model VCD-0053, but looks as though it just hit the market. I also purchased the insert and filler plates for the tailgate, but do not plan to install them until my fifth wheel towing is done for the season. Fits well with the Access cover.

I bought this tailgate for my 2015 Ram 3500 Dual Rear Wheel truck for towing our fifth wheel. I liked the appearance and design of the new tailgate that will allow me to hook up and unhook without raising or lowering the gate. Really nice tailgate to hold me over until I get the OEM fixed. Installed in less than 30 minutes. Was packed very securely. 5 years towing a fifth wheel and got distracted and damaged it when I forgot to lower it. Must have for me going forward and camping. Thanks etrailer.

Easy to install except for the screws on the bottom of the endcaps. Took approximately 15-20 mins.
A recommendation would be to supply a blank plug to put in the connector for the back up camera & lock
After damaging my tailgate, I replaced it with this one within 10 minutes....Looks fantastic and saved me a lot of money!!! A + I highly recommend!!!!
Very disappointed with this product. First, unhappy with the fit. Leaves a good size gap between the bumper and bottom of tailgate. Secondly, the gate I received with the lock will not stay in the closed position unless it is locked each time. The latch falls to the open position and at the first bump in the road the tailgate falls open. We lost a table top barrel cooker and luckily it did not greatly damage our Fifth Wheel we were towing after the gate dropped. Finally, our last trip the lock failed and remained locked. After returning, I disassembled the locking mechanism(only way to get it open) and removed the tail gate for good. I am done with it.
Came on time and packed very well. Had a minor scuff on drivers side cover but nothing worth returning over. Overall it looks good and I am sure it will hold up to the elements. Very easy to order and I will be a repeat customer!

Fit was ok on install. Thing started falling apart after the 7 month mark. One side cover flew off entirely, and the other is now loose. Support brackets are breaking off. It is not at all worth the price if it cannot even last a year of light usage. Stromberg wants to charge $xx plus shipping to get the new parts for their defective tailgate.

This is still under our 2 year warranty with Stromberg. Customer service will reach out to you.
It fits and works but is quite cheaply made. The latch mechanism doesn't always close properly without an additional bump at the corners and the knob doesn't have positive stops for the open and close positions. It does however eliminate the potential damage to my factory tailgate when connecting and disconnecting from my 5th wheel trailer.

Ive had it on and off the truck several times over the past year and nothing has changed. Still cheap but effective.

For future reference the manufacturer can be contacted about this as these tailgates come with a warranty. I reached out to them and they said that each gate is tested before being packed up and that they see this issue with locks fairly often as things can happen during shipping. They would just need proof or purchase and an address to send the new locking mechanism to.
