Video Transcript for Erickson Ratchet Straps - Standard Strap - EM31425 Review

Speaker 1: Today, we're taking a look at the Erickson Sliding Ratchet Tie-down Straps with Safety Hooks. Now, these tie-down straps feature the sliding ratchet mechanisms. They're designed to secure your gear in your truck bed, trailer or cargo carrier. The steel ratchet is able to slide anywhere along the strap. It's a really unique design to this strap. And it's really unlike anything else out there on the market. The reason why that's a really nice feature to have is because it allows you to position the ratcheting mechanism anywhere along the strap.

So this strap measures 14 feet long. And two straps are included so you get true 14 feet of strap length. And this ratcheting mechanism can be positioned anywhere along it.So, a lot of traditional straps are basically two pieces. So you have the ratcheting mechanism with a lead strap and hook. And then you have another strap that you have to feed into it.

This is a one piece design. So, there's no strap that you have to feed into it. It's a one-strap design and it loops through. And then it has the hooks on each end.So, basically the sliding feature is activated using this lever right here. So you move that to the sliding position.

And that allows you to take this ratcheting mechanism and slide it anywhere along the strap that you want to position it at. So, that allows you to position this where you want it. That way it's always accessible in the location you want it to be in.It also allows you to have the proper leverage to tighten the strap. So, when I use ratchet straps it's usually in the bed of my truck. My anchor points are down to towards the floor of the bed.

And if I'm using a fixed ratchet strap, I have to reach down in there and crank it. This would allow me to reposition the ratcheting mechanism in a nice convenient location. So, especially helpful in tight, hard to reach areas.Once you have the position locked in where you want to ratcheting mechanism to be, you just take this and rotate it back to the locked position and that's going to keep that mechanism from sliding. Now you can attach your anchor points just like standard ratcheting mechanisms or ratchet straps. And then use the built in lever right here to tighten the strap down.On the actual hooks, we have safety caps. These are designed to help prevent the hooks from disconnecting from your anchor points. They easily snap on and off the end of each hook. Also prevents the hooks from catching on or scratching your cargo. The molded rubber handle is wide and very easy to grip. Its a nice easy to access release lever right there. The S-hooks are steel and they have a vinyl coating on them so that's going to prevent them from scratching or damaging your gear if they make contact with it.Also, I want to point out as you can see here it does have a hook and loop tie that's designed to be used to secure any excess webbing. Also great for keeping your strap neatly rolled up and organized when it's not being used. So, for storage. Now, again, both straps are included. They measure 14 feet long. The strap itself is an inch and a quarter wide. The strap is yellow in color, made from durable polyester. So nice durable design, resists tears and abrasions.Safe working load limit per strap is 667 pounds. Maximum load or break strength per strap is 2,000 pounds. So, once you have the anchors connected, you have everything positioned the way you want to and you have your strap tight, the down position is like your stowed or travel position. The middle position is your ratcheting position. And then you have your fully open position, which allows you to release tension. Now to release tension, you open it up all the way, grab here and here, and just pull. And that's all there is to it. That's going to allow you to release tension, really easy to do. And then you'd be ready to unload your gear. Now, please keep in mind that tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. So the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. That's going to do it for today's look at the Erickson Sliding Ratchet Tie-down Straps.

Exactly what I wanted at a great price.

Product is well made, though I was disappointed it is made in China instead of USA. I would prefer buying American made products.

This is not a product for people who don't like complicated items or who can't operate a DVD player remote or can't work programs on a computer or phone. The tie downs come with very detailed instructions. And for most consumers, it is needed to figure out how to work this tie down. I figured it out before I found the instructions, it was not all that hard if you have used ratcheting tie downs a lot.

The reason I recommend this product is the reason I purchased it: you can move the tie down mechanism away from the end hook, which is very useful for tying down any load to make sure the metal parts do not damage the item you are tying down. For example, I use this type of tie down in my 22 foot enclosed Wells Cargo trailer. It has E-Track inside of it and using the rings for the E-Track, I attach tie downs and hold down a motorcycle for transport along with a Condor front wheel chock. But motorcycles have mufflers that usually are in the way of the tie down mechanism, requiring placement of either an extension soft tie on the tie down hook, or placing a folded towel between the ratchet tie down mechanism and the muffler (or other place on the bike that is touched by the tie down mechanism). So with this Erickson Sliding Ratchet Tie down, I can move the mechanism farther away from the bike and then secure it, making it less complicated. No folded towel or fussing with positioning of the tie down on the bike.

The customer follow up like this really helps your business get return
customers. I own my own business here. I like the printed message inside
the boxes about the bottom of the box not being the last contact with the
customer. Very clever.
