Video Transcript for Erickson Ratchet Straps - Standard Strap - EM01416 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number EM01416. These are the Erickson Ratchet Tie Down Straps. They're going to have the safety hook caps on them. Tie downs are going to be perfect for securing your gear. Whether it's in your truck bed, trailer, cargo carrier, or roof rack. You can also use these to secure things to your trailer.

Like your boat, ATV, or UTV. It's going to have a total of 4 straps. The exposed end of the straps is going to run through the ratchet mechanism. I'll show you how to do that here in a moment. the ratchet mechanisms are what make it really easy to tighten down the straps over the gear and maintain tension on the straps. They're going to have the really nice release levers.

Very easy to access right there. That's going to allow you to disengage the ratchets when you're ready to unload. Now you can see here that all of our hooks are going to have a safety cap. Now this is going to help prevent the hooks from disconnection from our anchor points. They can easily snap on and off of the end of each hook, that way you can give it around the anchor point and then secure it.

That's just a really nice design to have, because when we're tightening down our ratchets, we don't want that to pop off. Now, another neat feature about the built-in cap is you can hook one end to your trailer, place it over your gear, and hook the other end up as well without having to have somebody on the other side of the strap applying tension to make sure that one side doesn't disconnect before you're actually readying ratchet down the strap and tighten it over your gear. It's got a nice design when it comes to the ratchet handles. It's got a nice rubber-like coating on it so you can get a really good grip on there when you're ready to tighten down the straps. All the S hooks on this system are going to be coated. That way, it's going to help prevent any type of scratches on your gear or vehicle or trailer. Now the straps dimensions.

That's going to give us a measurement of 1 inch wide. They're going to give us a total length of 15 feet long. It's going to offer a safe working load limit of 433 pounds with a maximum load or break strength of 1,300 pounds. Please keep in mind that tie downs straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit. You want to make sure that the weight of the secured cargo does not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used. When you're ready to install the straps into the ratchet mechanism, I find it easiest to go ahead and open up the ratchet mechanism, we're going to go ahead and grab the exposed end of one of our straps here. Now I'll show you how to run that through the ratchet. Inside here, you can see it's got a little slot. We're going to want to take our strap, place it through that slot, and then just make a U-turn with it and bring it back over that mechanism, and then pull it back. At this point, you'd want to go ahead and hook the hooks to your anchor point, get the strap as tight as you can over your gear, and then you can finish tightening that over you cargo, simply by using the ratchet mechanism. Again, that's going to apply the tension and it's going to hold the tension. Now, to release the strap, you're going to pull up the lever all the way and that's going to have the mechanism in an open position, so then you can disengage the ratchet mechanism and pull the strap out and get ready to unhook your load. That's going to do it for today's review of part number EM01416. These are the Erickson Ratchet Tie Down Straps with the Safety Hooks. .

Finally, a strap that reaches what needs to be contained! I can always tuck away the excess but never add additional footage. These will be a godsend when securing equipment to the boat or trailer. Straps are tough and ratchets are extremely smooth in their operation. Delivered in record time!
I will definitely be back to this website.

Still happy with the product but don’t use it much any more. Now live 1/2 mile from the lake and NEVER moving again! Carry one in the Jeep and one in the truck for trips to Lowes.

See what our Experts say about this Erickson Ratchet Straps

  • Cargo Carrier Approved for Use Behind Trailer
The cargo carrier we have which is approved for use behind a trailer is the Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier # CC-100. This carrier fits 2" hitches and measures 8" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the platform. It is 60" long x 23" wide and has pre-drilled holes along its raised edges for tie-downs. I do recommend using the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 63232 to lock your carrier to your hitch and minimize the amount of rattling you'd experience....

  • Recommended 15 Foot Long Tie-Down Straps with Bolt and S Hook
The longest bolt on strap with hook we have is the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps w/ Push Button Releases - 2" x 10' # EM34416. For your 15 foot length you may want to consider using two of the # EM34417 straps and connecting the hooks in the middle. If that won't work for your application, then I recommend using a 15 foot strap like # EM01416 and Let's Go Aero D-Ring Tie-Down Anchors - Bolt On # MMP536.

  • How Much does the 20x59 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18151 Weigh?
I confirmed with Curt that the 20x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches C18151 is 55 pounds. If you are looking for something a bit lighter, I recommend the 19x60 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches - Aluminum # C18100. The Curt cargo carrier only weighs 27 pounds. If you need straps to secure your cargo, the Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Straps w/ Safety Hooks - 1" x 15' # EM01416 will work great.

  • Will the etrailer Motorcycle Carrier for 2 Hitches Work for Mini and Dirt Bikes
The etrailer Motorcycle Carrier for 2" Hitches part # e98873 has a track width of 4-7/8". The tires can be wider than this but as with any tire size needs to be secured properly. Outside of that the carrier has a weight capacity of 500 lbs. which is more than enough for your Coleman ct200u-ex which weighs in at about 140-145 lbs. and the track length of 79" is plenty to cover the overall length of the bike. Overall it will be a great way to get your bike wherever you want to go. If you...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for Transporting 2 E-Bikes with a 2018 Toyota Corolla
For your 2018 Toyota Corolla I recommend installing the the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11265 because the Draw-Tite option # 24913 has a weld-stop in the receiver which can get in the way with some accessories. The Curt hitch then allows you to use the 20x47 Reese Carrier # 63155 for carrying your electric bikes. Plus since this carrier only weighs about 44 lbs you will be well under the 200 lb tongue weight (TW) of the trailer hitch. To help secure your bikes you can use some ratchet...
