It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

ShockStrap Ratcheting Tie-Downs

shockstrap s-hook strap with shock

Made in America to military-grade specifications, these one-of-a-kind ratchet straps from ShockStrap are great for nearly any application, from securing your cargo on your vehicle for your next weekend getaway, to strapping down your favorite toys on your trailer. The 7' length of these straps is perfect for securing a motorcycle, UTV, or snowmobile in your truck bed or trailer.

Unlike traditional straps, which don't stretch or contract, these tie-downs are uniquely designed with built-in shock absorbers that allow the strap to maintain constant tension on your load as you travel. This is great for toys that have suspension systems that can compress and rebound when you travel rough terrain.

Built-In Shocks

shockstrap rubber shock

The webbing of standard straps can't stretch or contract to absorb impacts. As a result, standard tie-downs might become detached from their anchor points, or they may become slack around your gear as the load shifts. But these ratchet straps feature built-in urethane shocks that are designed to absorb impact and to allow give. This ensures that the tie-downs stay taut and won't loosen over time. The built-in shocks helps to keep the tie-downs from coming loose or failing, which could result in lost or damaged toys.

In addition, the shock ensures a longer life for the strap webbing. If you use this to tie down a motorcycle, for example, the constant compressing and rebounding of the bike's suspension during travel can wreak havoc on ordinary straps. The webbing is likely to experience more wear and tear as it rubs along your gear. But the ShockStrap's shocks absorb these jolts so that the webbing of the tie-downs stays put instead of wearing over the edges of your equipment.

Easy-to-Use Ratchet

shockstrap large handle ratchet

Each tie-down features a commercial-grade, heavy-duty ratchet. To release the ratchet, grab the oversized handle and pull on the release lever. The release lever is positioned on the outside of the ratchet to ensure safe and easy operation, even if you're wearing gloves.

How to Use the ShockStrap Ratchet Straps

shockstrap s hook with clip

To use the ShockStrap ratcheting tie-down strap, first attach one of the durable S-hooks to a desired anchor point. Then stretch the strap over your cargo and secure the other hook to a point on the opposite side of your truck or trailer. Each hook has a wide opening, making it hassle-free to maneuver and attach the hooks to your anchor points. And the retention clips on the hooks ensure that the hooks stay in place on the anchors while you're loading, as well as while you're traveling.

shockstrap soft loop with s hook

Soft loops, which are on both sides of the straps, can be used to tie down a piece of equipment that may otherwise be difficult to secure. So instead of using the hooks, which may scratch or scuff your toys and might be difficult to run through or around other cargo, you can easily cinch each tie-down around your gear. Just wrap a soft tie around the axle of your UTV or around the handlebars of your motorcycle, and then secure the tie-down to your anchor points as usual.

Once the hooks are in place, tighten the webbing around the cargo and activate the shock. To tighten the strap, crank the ratchet mechanism until the webbing is taut around your load. Be sure not to overtighten the strap. If your hand cannot fit between the shock and the safety strap, the strap is too tight.

To activate the shock, tighten the strap a bit more, stretching the shock until light is visible through the bolt holes in the shock. In warm climates, the shock can stretch up to 2", while in subzero climates you may only get about 1/2" of give.

Finally, after tightening the webbing and stretching the shock, make sure your cargo is completely secure and then tie off any extra slack.

Strong, Durable Construction

The sturdy, UV-resistant polyester webbing of these tie-down straps has a high tolerance for abrasion and water absorption.

The shocks are made of urethane, which can withstand elements such as sunlight, saltwater, moisture, oil, fungi, and most chemicals. These shocks can function in nearly any temperature, holding up to hot and cold weather conditions without losing elasticity or becoming unyielding or brittle over time.

The rust-resistant, yellow zinc chromate coating on the ratchet and hardware holds up to the varying weather conditions.

A safety strap is also built into each tie-down to provide peace of mind should something happen to the shock. This safety strap ensures that if the tie-down is used improperly, overloaded, or unduly stretched, your cargo will remain secured.

Video Transcript for ShockStrap Ratchet Tie-Down Straps with Shock Absorbers Review SS93MV

Hi everyone, Aiden here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at these ShockStraps ratcheting tie-down straps. These are gonna be a good solution for tying down things like your motorcycles, ATVs, or any sort of shifting load, things that have suspension, because they've got some unique technology to make sure that they always stay tight on your gear. Let's check 'em out. For the most part, these are much like your standard ratchet strap. You've got your S hooks at the very end.

These ones are really nice because they've got the keeper on there to make sure they don't come undone and the vinyl coating to protect your gear. Moving up to the ratcheting mechanism, it's a pretty large one with a protective zinc coating to keep it free of rust and corrosion and a pretty large handle to use. Where it starts to differ though, is the tension right here with this urethane piece. What this is gonna do as we tighten it down is actually stretch and expand. So on our loads that have suspension or moving parts, if things we're to shift or that suspension we're to compress, what would happen is some of that slack would get taken out of the stretched piece, keeping the strap tight on the vehicle.

So for anything that does have a moving part, this is gonna help a lot. So that urethane piece might be kind of hard to explain or really envision what it's going to be doing, but after using just some regular ratchet straps to transport this motorcycle and working with the ShockStraps today, I can tell you I definitely feel a difference. Overall, it's far more secure and as we we're driving around with it, I did notice a better difference than just how stable it was being when we we're using it. The strap itself is gonna be an inch and a half wide and 7 feet long. In our setup today, it worked really well in this part at the front of the motorcycle because that length was enough to reach down to the carrier, loop back up around the handlebars, and back down to the carrier again.

You can see because of the size of those S hooks, we're using the integrated soft tie-down loops to hook the S hooks into, so we're not needing any sort of tie-down rings on the carrier. You could totally use that if you're using this in conjunction with a trailer or a truck bed. But the tie-down points for us today were just a bit too small for those hooks. As far as the length goes, there is one caveat to this. We couldn't use this at the back of our motorcycle because you can see how short of a distance we're going from our target down point to the frame of the motorcycle.

For the ShockStrap to work, you're gonna need a minimum of 29 inches from your tie-down point to the tie-down point on your vehicle or on your trailer. That's because this needs some room to expand and stretch and all this strap in between needs some room as well. Without that minimum of 29 inches, it's not gonna be able to do its job properly. And then for weight capacity, you're gonna have a safe working load limit of 1000 pounds and a break strength of 3000 pounds, and that's per strap, so these ones are more than up to the job. Setting up the ShockStraps, pretty straightforward. We're gonna install the ratcheting mechanism first. So for our case, on this motorcycle carrier, we have some designated tie-down points but the S hooks are far too large to fit into those tie-down points. Luckily, we've got the soft loops built right in on both ends, so what we're gonna do is actually feed this up and around the bars of the carrier, hook the S hook to the soft loop and do the same on the other side to get this all secured. So whenever everything's all tightened down the ratcheting mechanism will be right around here and this portion here will get stretched out whenever we put tension on it. For the free end of the strap we're gonna actually sneak this between the ramp on the carrier and the carrier itself because we want to have access to that ramp whenever we are parked. So that'll go through there. Same process with that S hook, looping back to the soft tie-down loop and the free end can go up over our handlebars or some other sturdy place on the motorcycle, avoiding any brake lines, to meet the ratcheting mechanism down at the bottom. We'll open it up, feed the free end of the strap through the middle, pull out all the slack that we can and we can start to tighten this down. So as we're going, we wanna watch this portion right here with the urethane. Right now I can fit my hand in there very comfortably but we want this to expand about two inches and be able to just fit our fingers through. So as I tighten it down, you'll see it begin to stretch and we can kind of test that tension as we go. Right about there's looking really good, so then all I have to do is take care of my excess strap and I'm good to go. At this point, if you've got extra tie-downs, you'd want to use those, generally for the motorcycle, I think having four straps is probably a good idea just so you can get all four corners secured. In our case, the ratchet straps that we we're using before worked better for the back end just because these ones wouldn't work in such a short distance where we attached it versus where the tie-down was. But everything's really solid. The ShockStraps work really well, too. I like that we're using that in conjunction with something that has suspension and travel because if there is any shifting with the load, the ShockStrap's gonna help make sure that it stays tight on the vehicle and on the carrier. And that'll do it for our look at the ShockStraps ratcheting tie-down straps. I think it's a really good fit for our motorcycle here. And whether you're using it in a truck bed, a trailer, or a motorcycle carrier like this, I think it'll work really well. Thanks for watching.

Way better than standard tie downs. Holds better if you tighten enough as compared to standard tie down and does not slack up

by:

These are just what I was looking for and more. Was looking for motorcycle tie-down that wrapped around handlebars. The shock absorber is a bonus.

by:

I use these to tie down Honda Rancher ATVs, I took out the rubber shock as it's useless(too stiff) for the weight of the ATV and provides no shock motion. The strap itself is unbeatable. Heavy duty, with the loop and latching hook that make this strap a super safe option. The strap and hook WILL NOT come off going down a rough road, due to the safety mechanisms. Well worth the price if you want long lasting AND safety as peace of mind.

The product performed as it was advertised. The straps were well constructed and it was obvious a great deal of thought went into the design. I shoot sporting clay targets and haul a John Deere Gator 825 XUV to events, as a means of transportation around the course. Roads traveling to and from events, often, are gravel or dirt. This can and does create rough road surfaces to pull trailers and XUVs on. I used the Shock Straps this past week and watched to Gator as I drove on some rough terrain. The Gator did not move or sway during the trip. When I got to my destination, the straps were as tight as when I left for the trip. There was absolutely no play in the straps. Previously, I was always adjusting the straps and the XUV would rock and bounce on rough terrain. No any more.

Best strap I have had for timing down my Polaris Ranger!

by:

The etrailer team set up my account for no sales tax (we are a school) quick and easy. Once I placed my order, it arrived just as quick. I recommend etrailer very highly.

by:

I ordered these to strap down an ATV for several hour highway trips during hunting season. They work great and my atv does not bounce around and loosen the straps like traditional ratchet straps do. I've recommended to several friends who have also ordered and have the same success. Great product!

by:

I should have bought the straps that bolt to the trailer.
These work but not much need for the shock feature or the loops at the end of the strap.

by:

I love the Shock straps. After using them for a year they are still working great. I would recommend to anyone.

by:

This review is more of etrailer not a product. Ordered these tiedowns for a birthday gift. Website indicated delivery in 4 to 5 days. They didn’t even ship for nearly a week, birthday came and went its need 12 days since ordering and still have not received the item. If you really want these tiedowns, find them somewhere else other than etrailer.

by:

They look nice and heavy and made of good quality materials reason for 4 stars I haven’t used them yet

by:

Excellent product. The heat does cause the rubber coating on the hooks if they're tied down for any length of time. Sometimes the locking mechanism gets stuck in an in-between position and it's difficult to unlock; however, these are still the best straps I've ever had and I've had zero load shifting problems or broken straps. I will definitely buy a second set.

by:

Like everyone else I would go through the efforts of strapping down a utv only to see my ratchet straps hanging off the trailer as I look at my review mirror 10 minutes into my trip. Never again! Used these on a 200 mile round trip down all kinds of roads (freeway, country roads, dirt roads, etc) and never had to adjust or tighten them. A must have.

by:

These straps are great. The are strong and allow for some movement of the motorcycles without have the straps break or come loose. The Harley was transported to Las Vegas and back, 2500 miles with no issues.

by:

WELL MADE HEAVY DUTY, WISH THEY HAD THE CARRY BAG

by:

Easy to assemble, easy to use. I lug around my 450SXF on my 2005 Prius. Works great.

by:

exactly as advertised

by:

Knowledgeable staff helped me make the right decision

by:

I was looking for tie down straps to haul my ATV as well as my garden tractor. The standard straps were okay but did seem to loosen up after traveling for awhile. So I took a chance on these ones based on the details one etrailer as well as reviews. I have not been disappointed. They worked as described and do not loosen in transit. I would definitely purchase again.

by:

Very well thought out product. Works well on the front of my BMW K1600GTL. Allows some movement, to minimize road shock, without allowing the bike to loosen up, especially as the Duolever front does not compress the fork spring when strapped down.

by:

Geesh these are really large! Bought these over the 1.5" as it was almost the same price. But now getting them, I almost wish I got the small version for our Dirt Bikes. But these will for sure more then do! Heck.. I could even use them to pull a car out of a mud pit with these 2"ers. I'll keep them vs swapping for the smaller..

by:

Awesome product, performs better than I expected. Super strong and built well. Well worth the money invested.

by:

Heavy duty straps straped my utv down made a 2 hour trip they stayed tight just like they advertise had good promt service with etrailer they are more expensive than some other straps but very much worth it

by:

They do not slip

by:

Well after one year I give it a 4 star plus rating. I haul a $1,500 snow thrower and I do not want it sliding around or coming loose. This product claimed it will hold...and it did...I tried good looking store bought straps and sometimes I would not even drive a mile and they were loose. I cannot afford that! BUT for as much as I am in and out with my work I wish they were a little quicker for me to secure. It is not that difficult once you get the hang of it, but I do it 15 times per snow fall and I would dream of straps secure and very fast to secure. Maybe secure hooks on each connection and no sifting strap thru each time. OVERALL if you want your cargo not to shift or come loose BUY THESE.
