It's been a lifesaver for my wife. RV steps are too high for her disability, so this has made a huge difference for us. That being said, the design needs some improvement. We put it up and take it down 10+ times a year as we travel. And from the first time we collapsed it, some of the stabilizer bars got trapped and bent. It's impossible to straighten them back out so that they work properly without disassembling the whole thing.

by:

I was amazed at the fast shipping, we ordered on Saturday and received the steps on Wednesday. A+++. I set up the stairs right away without too much problem. The back right leg looking from the front is twisted slightly and made the bolts difficult to install for the landing. I took a couple of photos but hard to see. Entering and exiting the trailer with the new stairway is much easier and we have been looking for something portable and sturdy for our Grand Design Imagine and we hope this will do.

We have been very satisfied with the steps, they create a solid platform to enter and exit the trailer, much easier than the stock steps. The only thing is although portable they are awkward to transport. For us they work best when staying an extended time at a location. Great value and quality I would buy again.

by:

Really like this product. Well built and believe it will last a long time. Easy to put together and put away for storage. Glad we bought it.

Still looks great.. Great purchase for us!

@Scott We're glad to hear that, thanks!

by:

The steps are great! We turned our RV into a permanent and stationary second home which stays on some off grid property we purchased and we wanted the entry to be a more traditional type setup for easier access. The steps serve that purpose beautifully and we are very pleased with the sturdiness and functionality.

by:

So easy to setup, took just a few minutes. We have our steps sideways, so we will be adding yellow chain link at the top of the platform so no one takes a left turn off the steps.

I understand all previous shipping comments. Shipping is difficult because the steps are heavy and the box is large and difficult to move around. Ours came with a few scrapes on the edge but nothing that can't be touched up.

Stairs are still in good shape. We live in our trailer full time now and only move around a few times a year. The stairs fold easily for storage or if we take them with us.

by:

In the time it takes to tighten 8 nuts & bolts, the steps were ready to use. I did add 2 lock washers to the bolts of the handrail to reduce the chance they might loosen.
Very strong! Heavy duty!

by:

The steps arrived in perfect condition. I was afraid the weight might be too much for me the handle when putting it together, but I had no problems (I weigh 105 lbs.). I initially had difficulty understanding how to stand it upright, but once I got that, it went smoothly. It sits very securely, and makes going in and out of my little vintage camper safe. I like that it can be removed and stored in the winter months.

Ive had the steps for a little over a year and they remain in great condition. We live in a harsh winter area, so I put the steps under the deck for the winter months. I have absolutely no regrets about the purchase.

Quick delivery, no damage, easy assembly, sturdy product, looks great, would recommend this product and company.
My wife has knee problems these steps are working excellent for here.

I am going to rate this item excellent. These steps are very sturdy. Not light however at 70 pounds but they do fold up for transporting. We bought the steps to make it easier for our 15 year old Border Collie to get in and out of the trailer. The steps and landing are covered with traction material and prevents her from slipping on the steps. The steps are well made and easy to assemble. I would buy these again; however.........

My only complaint is the poor packaging provided by the manufacturer. It does not protect the contents during shipping. This is no fault of etrailer or UPS. The staples that hold the two sides of the box together really beat up the paint job in numerous spots and the bolts were strewn all over the inside of the box, likely adding to the paint damage. I have posted a message on Stromberg Carlson's website as they should be providing better protection in the packaging for their products especially heavy ones
such as this. I will keep the steps as I really like them, but I was disappointed in seeing the damaged paint, even if it is only cosmetic. I have not heard back from the manufacturer.

Etrailer had the steps in stock and the free UPS shipping was a bonus. I had them within three business days. I have bought from etrailer in the past and will do so in the future.

by:

Just got the new steps today so have not gotten to test drive them in "real" camping operations but the steps are exactly what we were looking for. The steps on our new camper are adequate but pretty steep. The new stand-alone steps are a lot more user friendly and the landing at the top makes a great platform when going in and out.

Thanks for such a durable and great product.

by:

Outstanding, everyday in and out.
Love
it.
Excellent product, I have and will continue to recommend it to one and all.
Great.

by:

I was extremely pleased with the quality of materials in my portable steps. The instructions included were easy to understand and follow. Now my wife can easily access our trailer even with problem knees.

by:

Steps are great but as many other customers highlight, shipping is a challenge. The left support railing was slightly bent on arrival but still usable. The mounts that support the handrail were lost in shipping, hoping I can work with customer service to get a replacement on the way soon. But they’re steps and they work pretty well as such

by:

Sturdy steps. Should be slightly wider. It just barely clears the steps on our motor home. Because of this the railing is unusable on either side. I had to buy an add on railing to attach directly on our rig. The option of railing that could be attached to the step below the top landing would allow the opening & closing of the door.
More reflective, abrasive tape helpful for the visually impaired (sister-in-law).

by:

Many prior reviews mentioned the poor packing of these steps and the parts that were missing as a result of the packing damage. Thanks to Kim and the added packing the steps arrived with no damage and all the parts were in the package and it arrived promptly. Kim was very knowledgeable, prompt, concerned and showed that she wanted the business. Being that we are in a very large and active campground I am sure many here will stop ro see the steps. I will definately recommend etrailer and Kim.

I bought these steps as both me and my wife are in our 80s and find the steps on our Park Model trailer getting hard to handle. Now we can continue camping in comfort and with safety going up and down the stairs.

Assembly was easy. The hadrest part was to open the steps from a flat position but once opened all went smoothly and quickly.

Very good. Sure makes getting into and out of the trailer easy and safe especilly as we get on in years. Only thing I would like to see added is a rubber pad for under the steps to the ground. We are on a concrete pad and the steps have a way to move easily but not more that a 1/4 inch and easy to reposition.

by:

We spent 3 weeks in Desert hot springs Ca. and loved our steps. My husband has a bad knee and it was easier for him to get in and out and the dogs did so much better than using the regular trailer steps. It folded up enough (4 step model) to barely squeak unter the storage bin. The three step would have been a snap to store.
It was packaged well, and my only complant was that there were no nuts and bolts etc for assembly and we had to go to the hardware store before being able to use it. Will get pics later

Denise R.

Love our stairs. Husband has knee issues and they are so much better than the RV steps. Getting easier to set up each time we go.

by:

This step unit is just what we needed for our entrance to our park model/destination trailer. It was easy to assemble and is very sturdy. The landing at the top is a great feature. It is now so much easier to go in and out - for the old lady and for our elderly dog. We looked at fiberglass, but the heavy, chunky designs were ugly. This open unit does not detract from the trailer. The price was also reasonable. Most pre-fab RV steps are a total rip-off price-wise. I highly recommend this product.

Ramarie S.

2/13/2015

Our step unit has been great as described above. After one year, my only negative is that the black paint should be more durable and also needs a clear coat all over it against the weather. Since these steps sit out all year in EVERY type of weather, here in Ohio, the paint needs more attention. It has gotten chalky and rubs off quite a bit, every time you have to clean off bird pings or mud, etc.We may have to coat the steps ourselves to preserve the paint for the years to come.Im not sure why other folks had so much trouble putting it together. We had very little trouble when we followed the directions. Our box arrived pretty beat up as well, but not as bad as some others. You may want to pad around the unit so the box doesnt collapse, put a second, thicker carton around the package and use a different carrier.

by:

These are wonderful steps! Very sturdy, extremely easy to assemble and very secure. I use them to access my pool deck and they are PERFECT, strong, slip proof (even in wet, bare feet) and step width and spacing is perfect for older fat person such as myself! They shipped quickly and box was slightly banged up, I would like to suggest that shippers use two fiberglass bonded tapes one wrapped horizontally and the other wrapper vertically to make handling during shipping slightly easier (gives someone something to grip when moving box). Thanks so much for such a great product!

Crisg

1/21/2015

This product is FABULOUS! It is very stable, weather resistant, and secure. I cant imagine getting up to my pool deck any other way now! Greatengineering and very good structurally...I am a fatty and this is a wonderful staircase for me to use! Thank you! Keep up the good work!

by:

The steps arrived ok. But the box was destroyed. Fasteners scattered around the UPS truck. A trip to Home Depot for more nuts and screws fixed that problem.

It required a crow bar and a 2x4 to convince the assembly to unfold.
But now all is well.
the steps are too short for our 5th wheel.

Mary

2/18/2014

We sold them to our neighbor because they werent the right height for our5-th wheel, they were one step too short. She seems to like them though.

by:

The stairs themselves are great, they will make it easier for us and our dogs to get in and out of our 5th wheel. The stairs also arrived quickly, just under a week after the order.

We are just happy everything arrived ok and complete because the box was in terrible shape when it arrived. It was beat up and partially torn open. You really need to use better boxes after so many reviews saying how the box was in bad shape when it arrived.

Lori B.

9/1/2019

The stairs have worked out great, they make it so much easier for us and our dogs to get in and out of our 5th wheel.

by:

This has to be the safest way to enter and exit your trailer, very easy set up ( 10 minutes) the only improvement would be some kind of leveling feet just so it could be dialed in .

Jim B.

9/11/2015

This is still a Great Product. Im very pleased with the steps, After a year of use I think two improvements could be made: 1- 10 -12larger platform. 2- leveling feet. of course it would cost a little more but well worth it.

by:

I called the company to inquire about the steps, the young man James that answered my call was more than helpful, I explained that I was a senior citizen and what I was looking for. Within minutes he had me all fixed up with what he figured I needed.
What service, your company should be so proud to have such a good helpful person working for you. The nicest part of all this is the efficiency and speed of this sale. It arrived on my doorstep two days later. EXACTLY what I had been looking for. THANK YOU JAMES you are a sweetheart. I highly recommend this step it is fabulous.!!!!!!!!!! Your company deserves 10 stars!!!!!!and James at least 20!!! ........

by:

Great quality for the price. easy to set and very sturdy. If it were about three inch's
wider it would be excellent. so it was as wide as the door on my 5th wheel. But it is a good product.

by:

I was quite impressed with the whole ordering process at first. But, then things got a little bad. The product was supposed to be deliver three days after I ordered it. After lots of back and forth and a replacement item shipped, I finally received my order 16 days after the original order. Now, I cannot blame etrailer for the delivery problem as UPS was the delivery agent. However, promises were made by customer service that were not followed through on, therefore I had to knock off a star. Also, for such a heavy item the packaging was very thin and flimsy and the product was practically falling out of the box when I received it, minus another star. I have yet to assemble the product, so I cannot comment on that. etrailer seems to have a good system, but it did not work well for me this time. Better packaging would be great, and after all my hassles I would think a bit of compensation would be appropriate.

by:

We purchased the folding stairs over a year ago to use with our destination RV that we have permanently parked in NW Montana. As we did not want to continue to use the attached RV fold-out steps, we actually folded up the RV steps and attached these in their place. These were easy to assemble, take down, & store, so would work well for traveling, too. Having the four steps makes it easy to go up and down with your arms full. The steps are very sturdy, the handrail is useful, and they look very nice on our RV. We are in our second winter (some temperatures have hit 20 below zero with 2 feet of snow) and do not see any wear/tear, e.g., rust, etc. The skid-proof strips work well to give sure footing in the rain. We are able to use a non-salt snow melt on them to keep them from being slick when it freezes or after we've shoveled snow off without seeing any damage to them. One of our family members is over 300# and the steps support them very well. Our little mixed-breed Chihuahua/Terrier dog loves them. He has plenty of room to lie out on the top step to sun himself in nice weather & patrol his yard. (We put a pad down so he isn't lying on the skid-proof strip which is a little rough.) Thank you for such a quality product!

  • Does the Econo Porch Trailer Step RV Steps with Handrail Fold
The Econo Porch trailer Step with Handrail and Landing # EHS-103-R does fold. This unit folds laterally, in order to fold the steps you would have to detach 8 braces to allow the steps to fold. Then reattach these braces when you were ready to use the steps again. The handrail is also removable and interchangeable to either the right or left hand side. For your reference I have included a photo showing these steps folded.

The top landing on the Econo Porch Trailer Step with Handrail, # EHS-103-R, sits at 28 inches high. If your fifth wheel trailer sits approximately 7 inches higher, you are correct, it would take one more step to enter your trailer. Please do keep in mind that the hand rail ends at the landing so you would not have one for that last step into the trailer. Other than that, you should have no problems using these steps for your fifth wheel.

The Econo Porch Trailer Step with Handrail and Landing # EHS-103-R do ship mostly assembled. To set up these steps you will remove them from the box and raise the steps. There are 8 struts that are only bolted on one side of the steps. When you stand up the steps you will bolt the struts up with the 8 nuts and bolts to hold the steps in the upright position. The handle will then be attached with the 2 longer bolts that come with the steps.
