Why the Quick Connect Steps Are Right for You

If you've ever stepped into a camper that has standard metal steps, you've probably felt that scary springboard effect that makes you reach for the handle. That bounce occurs because those pull-out steps never touch the ground. MORryde's Quick Connect steps have adjustable legs that steady the steps on the ground, so you can feel safe using them. Also, the steps are detachable, which means they aren't left out in the elements to rust or warp like factory steps.

MORryde Quick Connect vs. TorkLift and Brophy

But what makes these MORryde steps different from other detachable steps, the Brophy scissor steps or the TorkLift GlowSteps? The Quick Connect steps have a couple advantages over the Brophy or TorkLift steps.

First, the Quick Connect steps easily detach from the mounting brackets. This is handy if you want the sturdiness of the fold-down steps, without the inconvenience of permanently mounted steps that get in the way in tight situations. If you have to park close to another vehicle in a storage lot, for example, there might not be enough clearance to deploy your steps. With other fold-down steps, this means you can't deploy the steps and now they are blocking your entryway. The MORryde steps can be easily attached when you need them and detached and stored when the situation calls for it.

Second, the MORryde steps are fitted securely to their frame, with no folding points like on the Brophy scissor steps or the TorkLift GlowSteps. This makes them extra sturdy and less likely to bounce or move when you step on them. The camper won't rock as you climb in and out and you won't feel as though you may take a tumble at any moment while on the steps.

Will MORryde Quick Connect Entry Steps Work for You?

Snap-on steps are typically installed on travel trailers and 5th wheels. The Quick Connect steps from MORryde have two brackets that mount beneath your camper's door frame. The paddle latches allow you to clip the steps onto the brackets and to detach them for storage inside your camper.

Step 1: Measure the Entry Height

Measure from the doorway threshold to the ground. For these steps to work, you will need an entry height between 35-1/2" and 44".

If you find that you have a smaller entry height, there are other step assemblies that fit entry heights ranging from 2-1/2" to 36". (See table below)

Step 2: Measure the Mounting Space

Measure the space beneath your camper's door frame. You will need a minimum distance of 1-3/4" from the bottom of the door frame to the bottom of the camper to attach the mounting brackets.

Find the Step that Works for You

If, after taking your camper's measurements, you find that these steps will not work for you, use the table below to determine which part number you need.

Mounting Space Entry Height etrailer Part Number
1-3/4" 21-1/2" - 27-1/2" MR85HR
1-3/4" 27-1/2" - 36" MR63RR

Video Transcript for FAQ Trailer Step Measuring

Hey guys, this is Jake here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna go over some details and the measurements that you're gonna need to take if you're wanting to replace your fifth wheel or your travel trailer steps. If you're looking to replace your motor home or your RV steps, we're gonna have a separate video made just for that. Now, a couple of reasons why you might want to replace your steps. One of the biggest reasons is because people don't like these pull out steps because they're uncomfortable and makes for a not pleasant experience on the inside of the camper if they're folded out because they hover above the ground. When somebody steps on 'em, it rocks the whole camper.

So that might be a reason why you wanna upgrade from the pullout style steps to the fold out style which will fold up into the door of your camper. The nice part about the fold out is that they're going to be rested on the ground, so all the weight from the person walking into the camper is gonna be pushing on the ground and not pulling on the side of the camper. With that being said, a lot of people like this style because it's not gonna take up space on the inside of your door. So regardless of which kind you would like to go with, there's gonna be different measurements for each. There's gonna be a measurement for the pullout style if you wanna replace just the steps you have outside already.

And then there's gonna be different measurements for the fold up style, to be able to measure, you know, you're gonna have to measure from the ground to the inside and then side to side in the door. So, it's gonna be different because they're gonna be located in a different spot. Now, here we have a different set of pull down camper steps. The reason why I switched from my camper to these is because my camper, the bracket's actually welded in. If that's the case, you're just gonna have to cut it out.

But the reason we're showing you here is because these are bolted on and I'll be able to give you the proper measurements to replace 'em. So, first measurement you need to take is from this bracket, the bracket that's actually attached to your camper, not the step bracket, from the inside to the inside of these two brackets, which for us here is gonna be 27.5. And then what you need to do is you need to measure the depth of this bracket. So from this outer edge here to the trailer frame. Good for that.

We get about 13 and 3/8. And then the last measurement is from the ground. Now you wanna make sure you're on level ground and your camper is level from the ground to this bolt right here on the outside. So that. we're getting about 26 and 1/4. Now, if you're looking to upgrade to a set of fold-down steps that actually store inside of your camper, the two measurements that you need to take is from inside flange to inside flange, not the inside of the actual door frame, because it's gonna need to fit in between these flanges. So for us measure right up against there and we get about 24.5. You can see there. The other measurement we need to take is from the ground, again, being on level ground from the ground to the top inside of the threshold itself. So for us, it's going to be about 35. And the last thing that you need to do is you need to match up the measurements that you've taken, whether you're replacing your steps that came on your camper or you're replacing them and upgrading to the fold up type. You just need to match up those measurements to the measurements on our product page for the steps that you're looking for. Well, guys, hopefully this information was helpful in helping you to find the right information and the right measurements you need to replace your camper steps. If you have any questions, please leave 'em in comments below and we'll see you next time..

MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over the factory fold-out steps. The stability improvement is incredible, not just for the steps themselves but for the entire camper due to the fact that these contact the ground. I prefer the quick connect style as opposed to the fold-in design due to the fact that there was no door trimming required. Construction and styling of the steps is top notch. Installation is super easy. Line up the brackets and make 4 marks, drill 4 pilot holes and attach with 4 included screws. So simple. Takes 30min or less from unboxing to installed. This is by far the best upgrade I've made to my camper so far. etrailer is awesome!!

Really enjoy the new MORryde quick connect steps on my Rockwood Roo 233s. No more bouncing stairs. Dealing with etrailer.com has been a great experience.

I just received my steps and have yet to install them. My order was processed quickly and efficiently. Tammie, the agent of record, was thorough and knowledgeable and I will give her 5 STARS!!

Great product , good price ,
Fits well
, installation instructions were for a different model, may be an issue for some .

These steps are very Durable and they added a sense of safety that our 1984 Kit Companion camper desperately needed! Easy to install - 15 minutes total! It didn’t come with the pins that keep the legs from sliding out. We purchased these at hardware store. The directions were not good either. For these 2 reasons we gave it 4 stars!

Awesome steps, matched description perf ectly

by:

The leg adjustment feature of these steps is horrible. The pin and hole style is certainly not a design from this century or the last. A simple threaded knob friction type set-up would be a vast improvement. Adjusting them every time to account for different ground situations is a miserable task. I don't use them any more and went back to a 1st century invention; the step stool. Not perfect... but better in my opinion.
