Today we're going to be taking a look at the Valterra Flush Mounted Telescoping Gravity-fill Water Inlet for RVs. This unit allows you to add or replace a gravity-fill water inlet on your RV. To open the unit, just lift up the latch, then you can pull the unit out. It's got a stop on it so it doesn't come all the way out. That gives you the opening so that way you can pour your water in and fill up the tank that way. It does have a seal right there so it's going to create a nice, tight, leak-proof connection once that's closed.
It just snaps back into the down position to lock into place. It does feature the appropriate seals. There is a small hole located on this point right here, so if you wanted to pass through a lock or something to help keep that shut then you can certainly do that with the unit. It's a flush mount installation. You got your mounting flange and that's going to contain 4 mount holes. Mounting hardware is not included.
The mount holes are going to be separated on center by pretty close to 2 1/2 inches. It's going to be the same distance between each hole. That's a square pattern. There is a cut out that's needed for installation. This area right here, it's going to give us a diameter of right around 2 1/2 inches. The unit also features an air vent.
That's located at the top of the rounded portion right here. There is an air vent located on the unit. That's going to allow air to escape to keep pressure from building up inside the fresh water tank. This is going to be your 3/8 inch connector for the air vent. Then it has an opening at the top, back edge internally.
That's where it's going to allow the air to escape. This would connect to a hose that connects to the water tank and then as you fill the water tank up, it's going to push that air out and it's going to reduce the amount of pressure that could build up inside the tank. The connector right here, for the hose to feed the water into the tank, it's actually got 2 different sizes. You can see this portion right here's a little bit smaller in diameter. This is 1 3/8 inch barbed inlet and then it gets a little bit wider. This is 1 1/4 inch barbed inlet. You can use whatever one works best for your application. I chose the part because it matched the original equipment from 1974. The inlet as received required finishing with a file so the hasp would fit over the loop and a stainless hook (not supplied) could be inserted. Other than that, it’s handy the manufacturer included a stepped barb. Overall, it looks like a good product, and I look forward to using it for years to come.
The Valterra Gravity Fill Water Inlet is just as was described. I received the item quicker than originally expected, which is a BIG plus! Thanks for a great experience!
Bought this product to replace the inlet on an 84' Coleman Sun Valley pop up camper. The mounting holes and the cutout were a perfect replacement. The only issue was the angle of the filler hose was slightly different and did not line up with the hole for the hose on the inside. Luckily, the access panel on the inside could be moved up with a little work and then it was fine.
The telescopic design is different than the original inlet which just had a hole for the filler hose. I found it slightly more difficult to insert the filler hose, but it will be better if I need to add water from a bucket or jug.
I used this to replace the water inlet on a 83 Serro Scotty. I had pulled the old one out before ordering and measured its diameter (2 1/2 inches) to be sure I could find a suitable replacement. This one shows the same diameter - well, almost. It will work fine in the end but if your opening is actually 2 1/2 inches this will not fit without a little adjustment.
Look at the side view photo in the listing you will see there is a flange around the lower barb that comes down further (another 1/8 inch in my case) thus preventing me from just sliding it in. Have a half-round wood rasp on hand to rough out more space at the bottom of your opening until it fits and you will be fine. You could file down the plastic instead but I didn't want to take a chance on weakening the barb connection in the least.
Needed to replace the water fill on my old truck camper. After doing some research I was able to find an almost exact match to the old broken one. I ordered and received this as expected. This fit into and aligned up screw wise just like the old one. One plus in this compared to the old is this one has a longer hose connection with ridges to better fit and hold to the hose.
After one year of use this item has performed without incident. It was an easy install as it was an exact replacement for the old broken one. Even the screw holes lines up perfectly so no new holes were needed to be drilled. etrailer came thru again!!!

Working great. I sometimes wish that the would be removable so I can easily slide a hose on the opening, but I do use a smaller diameter flexible piece of hose to fill with.
