Video Transcript for Buyers Products 2 Inch Pintle Hook Mount Review

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Buyers Products pintle mounting plate for two inch hitches. It's gonna be a great way for your two inch hitch to get started carrying a lunette ring trailer and give you a place to mount at that pintle hook. It's important to note that this is just the mount. It's a two piece system, so you will need to pick up a pintle hook separately and mount it to that plate. But the nice thing is with a plate design like this where it's two pieces, you can bolt it in at whatever height you need and you'll see that it lines up with those four bolt holes and gives you the option for three different heights, one straight out from the hitch, and then two different drop heights here.

That vertical hole spacing center on center is 1 3/4 of an inch so that'll let you know what your height intervals are gonna be, and the horizontal distance between those mounting holes is 3 3/8 of an inch. Your weight ratings for the mount are gonna be 13,000 pounds. That's how much weight it can pull. And a max tongue weight of 2,600 pounds, that's that maximum downward pressure, and that's just what the mount is rated for. So when you pick up a pintle hook, I'd recommend matching it up to the weight capacity as best you can so that it's not the limiting factor.

And always check your vehicle. With this being meant to slide into a two inch receiver tube you might find that your vehicle is the limiting factor, so you definitely don't wanna overload that. And if it's not the limiting factor, then you don't wanna overload the thing you're actually using to hook up. So just go by the lowest rated component. Some measurements to keep in mind here, from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outer face of the mounting plate, it's gonna be 7 1/2 niches.

That'll let you know about how far your trailer's gonna be sitting relative to your vehicle, and if you did have any obstructions on the back of your vehicle, like maybe a spare tire, if this would stick out far enough to clear that. The other thing is from that hitch pin hole to the closest obstruction, that's gonna be this reinforcement plate right here, and that's gonna be five inches. For us today, that's getting plenty of room on the shank here, where if we wanted to add something like an anti-rattle device, we totally could. Or let's say we've got a 2 1/2 inch hitch with a reducer sleeve on it. There's a little bit more that we can put in there because with that larger hitch size, the hitch pin hole's gonna be positioned a bit further back and you'll need a slightly longer shank to make that work.

This one I think will have no problem. It does not come with a hitch pin and clip, so you will need to pick up one separately. That way you can properly secure it into your hitch. And since it doesn't come with one, I usually recommend just get a locking one. If you're gonna have to buy one, you might as well get one that's going to offer the most security and keep your stuff safe. It's a good middle of the road option. It's got a really heavy weight capacity, so it probably won't be the limiting factor in your whole towing setup, and it's just gonna be a pre-standard distance out and drop, so it'll probably work pretty well for most people. If you'd have one of those special cases where you need that added length on the shank or added drop height, be sure to check out our site of all the different options we carry. Thanks for watching.

I went out of my way to buy this one specifically because it was the only one I could find listed as American made.
Well it showed up made in China.
The quality is decent and it will do the job but it hurts to know I can’t buy a American made pintle hook at all.
If I had known I would have put in time to shop used locally.

I drilled another 21/32" hole in my hitch, which brought it nearly 2" closer to the truck. I debated welding the original hole shut but decided not to due to the unknown heat factor. It hasn't folded up yet, and I'm sure there's been a few times when I was grossly overloaded, and significantly beyond tongue weight at least until things were situated properly. Never had a problem. Wish it would've been closer to the truck from the get go but if another hole would've weakened anything, I'd have bent it already.

This was my first time ordering with etrailer and I can’t believe how fast I received the products (2days!!) and with free shipping as well . The products are top quality and as described online . The only thing I would add is that I ordered a trailer pintle hitch and a drop mount , and neither one had the bolts to mount the two together nor did I see it offered for sale as a “kit” to be purchased . That would be a nice compliment to add to the package .

Looking for a heavy duty mount for a pintle hook--this seems to be one of the highest rated mounts I could find. Need to add a rear tow hitch to our Rose Parade float chassis due to new parade rules. Easy to install, but did not come with a pin--need to purchase one separately.

Very well made!

Very well made with substantial weight capacity. Good finish. Bolt pattern fit my pintle hitch perfectly. I’ve ordered many times now from etrailer and the shipping is always fast.

by:

Perfect for tow straps and recoverys for fellow offroaders or jus yanking someone out of the mud.

by:

First of all this thing is stout and they shipped it early. Very good experience.

by:

Works perfect

by:

Did what I needed.

2 1/2" receiver Pintle hitch works great. Very heavy duty. I pull 30 foot trailer with a 16,000 pound backhoe on it and it works great.

by:

Works excellant as a mount for my pintle. I bought it to run upside down to level my trailer.

by:

This Curt Pintle Hook, along with the Buyers Products 3 position hook mount, works just fine. Good heavy duty hitch!

by:

I really like how the hook mount is one solid piece. I ordered the pintle hitch recommended to go with this mount, the only downside is the bolts are larger than the mounts' predrilled holes. Not a big issue for me as I have the tools and bits to enlarge the holes but for someone who doesnt they would have to take it to someone to be done. Other than that great products!

by:

sturdy product, good price, very fast shipping, durable packaging-thank you

by:

The hole drilled for the pin should be further ahead so more of the I beam part of the hitch is able to slide into the receiver. This would make it a lot stronger and would allow for the pintle eye to be closer to the truck which in turn would make the trailer handle better and would be less stress on the product with more support overall.

by:

Works really well. Bolted to the pintle hitch perfectly and the finish has stayed on.

by:

Solid, well-built, and provides a great fit for 2 1/2” hitch. Definitely provides peace of mind with the loads I’m pulling knowing the capability of this hitch. Highly recommended!

by:

Came missing a lock washer. During follow up on how my order went I let them know and a washer appeared on my doorstep a couple days later. Great service and very responsive. I will definitely use these folks again!

by:

Just received the hitch mount only 3 days after order and everything was there inclusive of the bolts. Really fast service and helpful on my questions.

The construction is very solid and I like the curved ends. Keeps from ripping clothing on the edges. Will hopefully get a chance to try it out this weekend.

by:

Excellent products and the website is easy to navigate. Parts arrived quickly and a follow up email was received to check on arrival of parts. Excellent customer service. Would highly recommend etrailer.com for all your trailer part needs.

by:

Nice finish on the hitch mount. Appears to be a quality beefy hitch mount.

  • Can Buyers Products Pintle Hitch Mount to Pro Series Adjustable Pintle Hook Mounting Plate
The Buyers Products 8 Ton Combination Pintle Hitch with 50 Millimeter Ball # 337BH850MM can be used with the Pro Series Adjustable Pintle Hook Mounting Plate 63072 but to mount the hitch you'll need to source your own 1/2"-13 threaded bolts to mount the pintle hitch. This mounting plate is different than most because it uses those bolts as opposed to the screws, nuts and washers that come with Mounting Kit # 3378520. For your 2" trailer hitch, instead of the Pro Series plate, I recommend...

  • Mounting Plate Compatible With Buyers Products 8 Ton Combination Pintle Hitch
I checked with the manufacturer, and the Buyers Products 8 Ton Combination Pintle Hitch with 50 Millimeter Ball # 337BH850MM has mounting holes which are 3-3/8" center to center horizontally and 1-3/4" center to center vertically, which do not match up with the Curt mounting plate you asked about, because it has slightly wider horizontal mounting holes. What that means is you will need the similar Buyers Products 2" Pintle Hook Mount - 3 Position - 10" shank # 337PM107 which has mounting...

  • Availability of Pintle Hook for 2 Inch Thick Lunette Ring
I called a few of our pintle hook manufacturers as well as went out to our warehouse to measure some for you. Unfortunately, none of them will accept a 2" thick lunette ring. The majority of them are designed for a 1-3/4" thick ring like the Buyers Products 15 Ton Pintle Hook part # 337PH15. It looks like from the photo you attached you are right at the 1-3/4" measurement so the Buyers Products 15 Ton Pintle Hook may still work for you. If not your best option would be to replace it with...
