Detail of housing assembly, rollers, and cable for Gorilla-Lift trailer tail gate lifter

The Gorilla-Lift tailgate assist reduces the amount of force needed to lift or lower your tailgate. It is comprised of 2 separate units that mount to both sides of your trailer. With even tension applied to each side of the tailgate, the tailgate is able to be raised and lowered evenly, reducing wear on the hinges and helping to prevent warping. Each unit has a spring located in the back. This spring attaches to the cable that hooks onto your tailgate.

Gorilla-Lift trailer tail gate lifter allows you to easily lift and lower your tail gate

When you lower the tailgate, the majority of the load is taken on by the springs, thereby decreasing the amount of weight that you have to manage. When you raise the tailgate, the springs, which extended as the gate lowered, will begin to retract, thus helping to pull the tailgate back into the upright position, again limiting the weight that you are responsible for lifting. As you raise and lower your tailgate, the self-lubricating thermoplastic rollers help to guide the cables in and out. This controls the movement of the cables for smooth and steady operation of the assist, and it also reduces wear on the cables.

Easy Install - Easy to lift now!!
The
gate was extremely heavy PJ TRAILER -U8 model gate
I can now lift with one hand — very little effort
THANKYOU!!

This was definitely the answer to no strain on my back, or needing help to lift the gate anymore. This is without a doubt an item everyone should have for those heavy lift gates. So Satisfied!!!

by:

We have owned our Gorilla Lift for a year now and absolutely love it!! It was a two person job to install. It makes lifting the heavy ramp a breeze to do with just one hand. We painted the bold yellow square bars black to match our trailer. I would definitely purchase the Gorilla Lift again if we get another Doolittle trailer.

by:

Great product, I should have bought this years ago. I installed it on a 6 1/2 x 12' trailer. I'm using 1 spring on the left and 2 springs on the right for the correct balance. I did have to get longer bolts for the round bar. The videos on site are great.

by:

I had seen a couple of these installed on work trailers and inquired about the owner satisfaction, which was extremely positive. My only apprehension was the installation, but the instructions were fairly clear. The hardware is high quality. Since installed I find I could not live without the Gorilla assist. The lift assist system has been 100% dependable and has performed beyond my satisfaction.

by:

I have been wanting this lift for some time and so glad I ordered it from etrailer.com. They had the best price around, quick shipping and customer service is awesome. Total installation time was around 1 hour and easy to do. I have arm, neck and back issues so the trailer ramp was difficult for me to raise and lower. The Gorilla Lift made it so easy to use now, I can't believe I wanted this long to get it! Highly recommend this company and the product!

This gate lift is fantastic! One year in use and still works like a charm. No problems or issues in the last year nor do I anticipate any. Quality is 100 and this product has exceeded my expectations. Highly Recommend!

by:

The Lift Assist works as described and installation was straightforward. The only tricky part was experimenting with various combinations of large and small springs to get the correct balance. Also it would be nice if shorter bolts were included for installation on angle iron rails.

by:

I love it! I am a more mature man (nice for older) and the tail gate weighed a ton on my trailer, so the lift was a dream come true. The lift worked great with some adapting caused by the trailer's shortcomings, not the lift's problem.

by:

This is the most simple assist to install. Used it on a folding aluminum gate and it takes NO EFFORT to drop or raise the gate. Best unit on the market and etrailer is the BEST for service (had many questions on install for a folding gate)

OUTSTANDING.Best and smartest move I made by installing the GL1. Either up or down with finger pressure.

by:

I LOVE this thing!!! I'm always loading and unloading items from the trailer by myself and the gorilla lift makes it so easy!!! It's definitely the best money I have spent in a long time.

by:

The Gorilla-Lift was installed on my almost forty year old utility trailer that I have recently dove tailed, painted and new wood. The tail gate is 5’ x5’ made of 2” tubing and expanding metal (heavier thanI wanted to lift). You can see by the pictures all it took was one lift with the larger spring to do the job. Was adjusted to where you take your hand off it stays put. The Gorilla- Lift was recommended by a friend that has one installed on a much heavier tail gate
that works great.
I would recommend the Gorilla-Lift to my friends.

by:

I could never go back to life without the Gorilla tailgate lift assist. It was tricky installing on a 15 year old 12 ft. PJ's single axle trailer due to structural side rail supports that just happened to foul the locations where the bolt holes were needed.

We worked around the problem but even with that frustration I love my lift assist and my back loves it even more so.

by:

Should have purchased this years ago. What a difference. I had to do a custom mount on the side of the trailer rails due to the location of my gate latches. Welded on 6 pcs of channel iron, drilled the holes and mounted. This allows you to use the tie downs on the top of the trailer rails and let's the cables stay online with the rollers with no side load. It now takes very little effort to raised and lower the 6'4" x 4'2" gate made with 2" angle iron. Could have gotten away with just one but two makes the gate super easy. The force needed to raise the gate from the ground now measures between 5 & 6 lbs. Product was as advertised and shipping was super quick and free.

A year later and this thing is great ! Trailers should come stock with these things. Should have bought it sooner.

by:

It arrived quickly, very heavy construction. Followed the instructions and installation was easy. When I was trying to adjust the tension for the gate it caused some frustration, fortunately there is a troubleshooting guide which addressed my problem. The lift works as advertised, effortlessly raises or lowers, and eliminates my concern about dropping the gate by accident. I highly recommend it

by:

I've used them before on other trailers and had to have a set on mine

by:

Fast delivery. Product works great

Been great. Had shoulder operation and could still raise and lower the tailgate with one hand. Three other friends have now purchased this product after working with me.

by:

Quick response time. Great product. Bolts too short for round tube side rails.

by:

Love the tailgate lift assist system! I've gone from dreading using the trailer to making excuses to USE the trailer! Thanks!!

LOVE our Gorilla lift tailgate assist, highly recommend to anyone looking to “lighten the load”!

by:

I installed the Gorilla Lifts to my trailer following the directions included in the box.
The direction were easy to understand and follow. The lifts were easy to install, adjust and work great. The ramp on my utility trailer was heavy and hard to lift by one person. It is an easy, one handed operation now. I am very happy with the lifts and the service I receive from etrailer.com

The Gorilla Lifts I purchased from etrailer.com and installed on my carry-all trailer are fantastic. They have raked the strain off my back when raising and lowering the tall tailgateramp. I recommend them to everyone who has a similar style trailer!

by:

Product was purfect for the trailer we have. Watched a video online to make sure we understood the instructions and had no problem installing it.

by:

Even my 84 year old mother-in-law can easily lower and raise the ramp now! In the process of doing some rehab on this trailer and having the gorilla lift will help with ongoing usability. You can see how it is holding the weight of the gate! Take care in determining your mounting spot where the cables attach. I used ratchet straps to get the cable ends (under tension) over the bolts in the gate.

by:

Great spring assist

by:

Great spring assist

by:

Lift is great! Well made, works like a charm, and came quickly. Only one minor installation glitch: the forward bolt holding the aft section onto the trailer rail aligned perfectly with one of the trailer rail supports, so it could not be installed. So I held this end of the channel to the rail with large wire ties. It probably doesn’t need any support but I just wanted to be safe. It has been fine.

by:

My trailer had a heavy back braking tailgate/ramp. I installed one side and it was enough lift to allow anyone to operate the tailgate. I installed the other side cause I don't have a second trailer to use it on. With both on, the ramp has almost no weight to it. It's a simple straight forward product that works great. Quality is well worth the price. My installation was slightly more difficult due to the trailer having extended sides. I had to use a piece of flatbar to offset the yellow tubes slightly. I included a pic and you can see the offset bracket if you look closely.

by:

They work great! I use them probably 10 times everyday. Really saves your back! Only thing Is the yellow paint faded after about 6 months of being the sun.

  • Will the Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Assist Wpork With an Enclosed Trailer
Unfortunately the Gorilla-Lift Utility Trailer Tailgate Lift Assist w/ Cable # GL1 you're looking at is only going to work with on utility trailer with raised bed rails, so it's not going to work with your CarMate enclosed trailer.
