Dual Folding Arms with Anti-Sway Cradles

Saris Axis 2 Arms

The rack has dual arched arms that have a more stylish look when compared to racks with arms that slope straight up. They provide excellent support for your bikes and leave ample ground clearance for steep driveways and bumpy roads.

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Folded Up On Vehicle

The arms can fold down, leaving a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And when stored in this configuration, it doesn't take up as much space in your garage.

Saris Bones Hitch Arm Adjustment Knobs

To raise or lower an arm, loosen the plastic twist knob and slide the arm off the grooved section and onto the smooth, inner part of the tube. Rotate the arm to the desired position, slide it back onto the grooves, and tighten the knob back down to lock the arm in place.

 Saris Bones Hitch AntiSway Cradles

Anti-sway cradles with ratchet straps hold your bikes firmly in place. Each set of cradles has two straps that secure your bike along the top tube and one that secures the seat post or downtube. This multi-point contact helps keep your bikes from rocking back and forth, reducing bike-to-bike contact.

Easy Tilting for Cargo Area Access

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Tilted Away From Vehicle

The rack tilts down without your bikes loaded. This means you won't have to remove the whole rack to access your cargo area for grocery runs and other errands.

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Tilted Away From Vehicle

To tilt the rack, pull the yellow handle on the base of the rack and lower the mast. When you're ready to go, just raise the mast back up. You will hear an audible click to confirm that the mast is locked in place.

1-Person Installation

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Adapter Sleeve and Hitch Pin

The Bones Hitch is made of lightweight steel that weighs less than 16 lbs, making it one of the lightest racks on the market. To install it, slide the shank into your hitch, insert the hitch pin and tighten it down using a 3/4" wrench (sold separately). The hitch pin is threaded to help eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. A clip is also included to keep the pin in place.

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Adapter Sleeve and Hitch Pin

You can install the rack in a 1-1/4" hitch or in a 2" hitch. To use it in a 1-1/4" hitch, simply remove the adapter with the included Allen key.

Available Security and Adapter Bar

Saris Bones Hitch bike locks

A cable lock and an anti-rattle hitch lock (sold separately) are available to secure your bikes to the rack and the rack to your vehicle.

Saris Bones Hitch 2 Adapter Sleeve and Hitch Pin

If you have a women's bike, kid's bike, or any other bike without a straight, horizontal top tube, you will need an adapter bar (sold separately) to properly mount your bike. The bar fits between the seat post and handlebar stem post of your bike to create a top tube so your bike hangs level on the rack.

Overall a good rack. But loading atypical geometry mountain bikes caused the tines to drift inward, off the tracks, allowing them to fold. This happened during driving almost costing us a fortune; [caught that in time]. I suggest better set screws or depressions in the metal that the screws channel into so the tines cannot slide inappropriately. I will be fabricating a bar to hold them outward. Yes, you can purchase frame bars to hang such bikes and that is an option, but I think I will go with a stabilizer that I can create in my workshop.

Super customer service from Etrailer. They kept me up-to-date about my order. My bike rack arrived ahead of schedule. Etrailer is the only retailer that guaranteed delivery of product. Everyone else listed it as out-of-stock.

by:

The rack itself seems to be great. It is up higher than I expected but since you can release it down to open the hatch, it is also a great position to load/unload from. Carrier was not packaged securely and there are a couple nicks on the main stem of the carrier. It will be nice not to have to load my bike in the back of the Outback and also to bring another person along with me on my rides.

Purchased this Saris Bones Hitch 3 Bike Rack approximately one year ago. It continues to work perfectly for my needs (transporting one or two high-end road bikes). Bikes have been transported for thousands of miles without issue. The vertical piece on the rack can occasionally become slightly loose at the bottom, but cab easily be tightened with an appropriately sized socket and hex wrench.

Nothing but good things to say. Minimal setup time.
The product is extremely well made, easy to use and rugged. It was strong and light and very easy to install.
Also after shopping around, it turned out to be very
reasonally priced. Last but not least, it is made in the USA so I can be proud to own it. I would not install anything else on my Chevy truck. Thank you Saris for such a high quality product, I will certainly recommend it to my other bike riding buddies.

I can repeat everything I said before this is a high quality product and a great value in every way.

by:

Excellent overall build quality and usability. Durable enough to get thrown around a bit, but very solid support for our bikes. Great mechanism for allowing the hatch lift gate to clear.

by:

Lightweight and easy to install. Folds away from vehicle for access to rear of the vehicle.

Seemingly well-constructed and supported bike rack. It fits my 2018 Toyota Camry SE just fine and I haven't had any issues with sway or even feeling my bike while driving. I've only carried one bike on it and have used it a limited number of times, so I cannot speak on durability and longevity. Although you shouldn't open your trunk while the rack is attached, I have been able to do so with no issue (without the bike attached).

While getting a bike rack for a sports car isn't ideal, I really wanted to transfer my bike with my own car instead of borrowing my friend's pickup truck. After hours of trying to find a bike rack that would be good for my 07 Mustang, I decided to give this one a try and I gotta say, it has been pretty good so far. It fits very well over the factory spoiler. One of my biggest concerns I was worried about when ordering a rack for my Mustang was ruining the paint, but the feet on the legs haven't left one scratch. I have used this to transfer my bike at freeway speeds (up to 80 mph) on car rides that typically last an hour and my bike was perfectly secure throughout each ride. For extra security, I wrapped both bike wheels with a ratchet strap so the wheels and pedals wouldn't shift in transit. So far, I am very pleased with this bike rack for the price and quality. I would highly recommend this if you want a rack that is affordable and durable.

This is the first bike rack I have ever owned. The rack will be used primarily for me to transport my bike to training rides and triathlons. Occasionally, we will transport 1-3 additional bikes if my husband or sons want to go on a ride. In the past, I had to remove my front wheel in order to fit my bike inside my 2013 Toyota Highlander, and we weren't getting more than one bike in there. I went with the Saris based on the recommendation of a triathlon coach/mountain biker.

My husband and I mounted the rack onto the car without difficulty. It is easy enough to get on or off by myself, which is useful since we will not be leaving on the car permanently. Thankfully, with it mounted, and the arms folded down, my 2013 Highlander fits into the garage with no problem. One useful feature that I discovered is the ability to position the arms closer together for my shorter bike. I attached photos of the arms attached all the way wide, or a little narrower.

I noticed just a minor amount of movement of the rack while I drove, but it was mostly while I went through a construction zone that has a lot of bumps. Even then, it didn't seem unstable. Additionally, I used a small bungee cord to strap the front tire to the cross bar of the bike, to reduce the movement of that tire.

I would recommend the Saris Bones Hitch without reservation.

by:

Clears the spoiler and keeps the bikes away from the car. I am totally thrilled that I bought this bike carrier.

by:

I wanted to take my bike to some trails and so this solved the problem! Pretty easy to attach to my car. So far, I’ve transported one bike with it on my 2017 Prius. The side straps don’t really have a place to hook on but I called for assistance and was told the side straps aren’t as essential as the top and bottom ones. I found a spot to attach the side straps just in case; but relied more on the top and bottom ones.

When we got to our destination, it did require a little work to remove the top hooks from my car. Haven’t taken it on a highway yet but it looks like it should be good!

by:

Fits well on my 2019 Toyota Camry Hybrid. Nice, well protected strap clamps for my mountain bike. I really like the two additional stabilizing clamps for the bike to prevent swaying. Light and strong rack. No rust possibility either. Bike holder extensions swing out of the way easily allowing garage door closure without removing rack.

by:

Bike rack fits just right on my 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback. Took a little longer for shipment with COVID but the staff at etrailer stayed in touch with updates on shipment and let me know of its status. I would recommend the rack and etrailer.

by:

It took a little while to get the arms where they needed to be and straps for the first time to make sure it was secure. But now that we have it set we just put it on tighten the straps and off we go! It's amazing and sturdy a little pricey but it's worth the money, I don't feel like our 2 bikes will fall off. I love It! Just make sure u get a bar adjuster for women's bikes or kids. Etrailer is the way to go, free shipping and it was here in 3 days!

by:

This rack is wonderful! It's lightweight, tough and super easy to use. It was ready to go out of the box and I had it installed within minutes. Several trips later and it hasn't let us down in the slightest. It securely holds my huge bike and my wife's without any issue. Cannot recommend it enough!

by:

The customer service was absolutely fantastic. She helped me choose the perfect bike rack. I have used it many times on short trips and three very long trips. It’s fabulous. I highly recommend this company

by:

Just a follow-up message to an earlier review. Beautiful, warm December day; finally had a chance to take the bikes to a county park. The rack worked great!

by:

It has been pretty stable when using the Saris Bones 2. A little bit of a learning curve to use, but once you understand, it is very easy to use. It is very well made and I am very happy with the quality of service from etrailer.com

by:

It is well designed, relatively intuitive (the installation videos on their webs site are a great help), and very stable when mounted on our car (We have a Volvo station wagon). I wish it had better strap management. When mounted on our car, there are four long lengths of unused strap that need to be coiled and stored so that don't flap around. I don't want to cut off the spare strap lengths because that would preclude using it mounted on a conventional trunk.

by:

Disappointed in this bikerack. I got it specifically for my Prius, as the curved frame fits over the spoiler. Unfortunately there is no where on the trunk or frame of the card where the side straps can attach. The top strap and bottom ones fit tightly but without the tension of these side straps the bike rack will not stay evenly on the car. Almost lost my bike on several occasions After lots of gerryrigging, I discovered if I quickly slammed the trunk with the side straps hanging loosely in the trunk, I should catch the straps and tighten them. This seems to work. Also no matter how hard I tighten it, the center arm (which lies against the rear window) does not stay in place, but slides off center. The rack works fine, with lots of gerryrigging. But should be easier to use given the price. Also be aware, that if your Prius has a rear view camera, this will have to be disengaged eveeytime you back up with the bike rack and bike in place, or your car will automatically brake if you try to backup.

by:

The item was shipped within minutes after the order was placed online. (Thanks etrailer.) When the bike carrier arrived and I took it out of the box, admittedly I was a little intimidated by all the straps, etc. But after looking it over and reading the instructions, it was a snap to assemble, mostly because of the large and clear-to-understand images. The Saris Bones 2 bike rack with optional hatch hugger straps fits my 2016 Honda CR-V snugly and exactly as advertised. I'm very satisfied and ready to ride.

I attached a link to this page that has the install instructions for the Saris Bones 3 rack part # SA883 that you have. There isn't a torque spec listed though for the bolt you mentioned. You'll just want to get it hand tight while using the correct wrench. Please don't use a crescent wrench like the pictures show though! Those notoriously strip bolts.

  • Should I Use an Adapter Bar for Child’s Bike on the Saris Bones part # SA883
When using the Saris Bones Hitch 3 Bike Rack to transport kids bikes I do recommend using an adapter bar. While it is possible to get some smaller frames on the Bones the bike is usually sitting at a very steep angle and is just something you really don't want to deal with. I really like the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter Bar part # 64005 it is very quick and easy to use when compared to the others.

  • Carrying a Womens and 2 Childrens Bikes on a 2013 Lexus RX 450h
Most 16 inch children's bikes and women's bikes need an adapter bar, like the Swagman # 64005, to be able to carry them level on a hanging bike rack. For that long of a trip I definitely recommend the bikes be as level as possible. The solution is often to use a wheel mount platform rack instead; however, they only fit as small as 20 inch wheels. With that being said sometimes the small bikes do fit hanging bike racks. It depends on how much space there is for the arms to fit under...

If you don't already have a trailer hitch, the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98867 is what I recommend which is a bolt-on fit. The Saris Bones is an excellent option and you will able to tilt the rack away from the vehicle to get into the hatch and fold the arms down while not in use. • Best Bike Rack for a BMW 3 Series?
The Saris Bones Hitch 3 Bike Rack, Part # SA883, is an good choice for the BMW 3-Series. It is capable of holding less than 3 bikes. Given that the BMW 3-Series only has Class I hitches, if you go this route, I would recommend keeping the bikes in the closest two positions to the rack to decrease the amount of stress put on the shank of the rack.
