We can definitely get your 2019 Volkswagen Atlas set up with a trailer hitch receiver and 3- or 4-bike rack, and let's go ahead and get started with the hitch. The best option that fits your '19 Atlas is from Curt, and is the following part number:
- Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13366
The reason the # C13366 is the best for a bike rack on your Volkswagen is because it has the best ground and bumper clearances for the hitches that fit your '19 Atlas. The hitch also has a concealed crosstube which means only the receiver will show, allowing your Atlas to better keep its factory appearance.
For the bike rack, I highly recommend the Saris Bones, which is a hanging rack that is available in either a 3- or 4-bike version:
- 3-Bike: Saris Bones Hitch 3-Bike Rack # SA883
- 4-Bike: Saris Bones Hitch 4-Bike Rack # SA884
What I like most about the Bones is the value they offer relative to other racks. They give you a quality, easy-to-use bike rack at a better price than other brands with more high-profile names, and consistently get strong reviews from our customers.
Both racks have strong anti-sway cradles and use ratcheting straps which secure your bikes at three different points, keeping them stable on the rack and safe from contacting each other. Both racks are also extremely lightweight, so they are super simple to handle, with the 3-bike rack weighing just 16 lbs and the 4-bike rack just 20 lbs (I verified both weights directly with Saris). Both racks come with an anti-rattle hitch pin, so if you'd like to lock it you can with the Hitch Tite Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock for Saris Bike Racks # SA3022.
Additionally, please note that if you plan on carrying kids' bikes or bikes with a step-through or alternative frame, you will need to give the bikes a horizontal mounting point by using an adapter, the Bike Frame Adapter Bar # 64005.
