Tekonsha Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Universal Fit
  • Trailer Hitch Wiring
  • 4 Flat
  • Converter
  • Tekonsha
  • 1-1/2 Feet Long

Adapts import and domestic vehicles with separate turn and stop lights (3-Wire System) to standard trailer tail light wiring (2-Wire System).

Features:

  • Short circuit protection safeguards itself and the tow vehicle against harmful electrical shorts and mis-wire situations
  • Circuit automatically resets once the module cools
  • Adapts a 3-wire system on the towing vehicle to work with a 2-wire system on the trailer
  • Works with most multiplex wiring systems

Specs:

  • Wire pigtail measures 18" long
  • 4-Pole trailer connector is 60" long from converter box

In a three wire system, a separate wire is used to carry each of the stop, turn, and running light functions to the tail light assembly. On most trailers, the stop and turn signal functions are sent through the same wire.

Warning: Overloading circuits can cause fires. Do not exceed:

  • Maximum stop/turn light: 2.1 amps per circuit
  • Maximum tail lights: 7.5 amps

Read vehicle's owners manual and instruction sheet for additional information.

Easy to install and no separate power required. Some of the other taillight converters require a dedicated 12V power source, which means routing power from the battery...not this unit! The unit is easy to install, but it doesn't come with the quick splice connectors, so order those as well if you don't want to solder and heat shrink. I installed this on a 2006 WRX which required partially removing some trunk carpet and 1 piece of trim (4 carpet fasteners and 2 plastic nuts). The demo video on etrailer.com for the 2007 WRX correctly identifies the wire colours (I checked). I have a 3rd brake light on my trailer, so I ran an additional brake light wire to the 5 pole plug I installed in place of the flat 4 connector that comes with this kit. If you aren't worried about scuffing the bumper with the wire hanging out the trunk, the flat 4 will work fine. I drilled a hole in the back panel of the trunk and routed the wires through a grommet and down to a PK11502 Pollak 5 pole socket plug.

Bill E. was extremely helpful answering my questions and ordering a replacement part that was no longer available from Valley after a wiring converter failed.
Have not had time to install new part but expect no problems.
Received order promptly as well.

Got the 5 to 4 wire converter for my 2015 Goldwing aand installed it recently. Excellent product with well marked wires. Unit was well sealed from the weather and is working great! Fast shipping too!

Still working perfectly!

Went though multiple adapters from different manufactures for 2000 Toyota tundra in less than a year, installed this unit and it's still working, it is a little more involved but able to locate the main body where road spray won't kill it.

Still working in Minnesota.

It took me a lot of time trying to figure out what I needed to adapt a 6 Pin round to a 4 Pin flat on a 2008 Winnebago View with always on daytime running lights. Brake lights wouldn't illuminate, turn signals worked fine, and DRLs were always on the towed vehicle as well as the View. Normal plug-in adapters won't work and there was no way without an expensive Dealer reprogramming to disable the DRLs.
This baby did the trick, once the brake controller wire was identified it was a simple matter of splicing.

by:

This unit worked well with my 2013 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI. The only thing I had to do to make it work better was to run two relays, one for the running lights and one for the brake lights.

Other than that issue, It's an easy to install and easy to wire type of deal.
Still functioning perfectly a whole year later!

by:

I installed this a year ago on a semi for electric brakes on a trailer. It was easy to install from the directions given by you guys and has worked great. Thanks!

by:

Great kit to add to any carI found the instruction easy to understand and I event watched the install video on the site. I am a pretty good elecrical guy so it was no problem for me, but you are going to need to know how to test probe the tailight plugs to find out what wires to connect to. I would suggest not using scotch locks to connect to the wires. Soldiering is the only way to make sure you arent damaging the wires. Good wiring option in a small package.

by:

the Tekonsha trailer light module solved the problem of no stop light power to the trailer I was working on. Amy was very helpful and pleasant to work with. I tell everyone if you need anything for trailers just call E Trailer. Joe

by:

We ordered lights and an electrical hookup for a 1965 Starcraft Tent Trailer! It came correct and very quick. like four days! Easy and fast!

by:

Product was just fine but etrailer takes service and training to the next level. Great how-to videos, schematics and diagrams make it very clear on how to install. Thanks!

by:

The staff at etrailer.com had my order filled and at my doorstep in 3 days. Amazing service and one stop shopping for high quality parts. I added them to my favorites list.

by:

I installed this on a 2008 Honda Goldwing. It was an easy install and works as advertised. Great service from e-trailer.

by:

This converter was exactly what I needed for my Honda trike and I received it in just 2 or 3 days very pleased

by:

Just what was needed. Excellent quality. Did not expect the electronics to be sealed as well.

by:

Ordered and delivered in less than 24 hours with free shipping!

Thanks Etrailer.

  • T-One for 2005 Toyota Camry 118308 circuit protection
No, the black box on the 118308 wiring harness is a converter that converts the vehicles 4 circuit wiring to work with the trailers 3 circuit wiring, and it does not protect the vehicle from any damage that could be caused if there is a problem with the trailer wiring. We do not have a separate circuit protector available, but we have a circuit protected converter, part # 119178, that you could hard wire into your vehicle's taillights. You may also need a circuit tester, part # PTW2993,...

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for 2014 BMW 328D
Your 2014 BMW 328D features a combined multiplexed wiring system and a powered module is needed on a trailer harness to accurately read its voltage levels and properly power the trailer lights. The Tekonsha Harness # 119178 that you referenced does feature a converter/module like you mentioned but it's not powered. For your BMW you will instead need the Tekonsha Wiring Harness # 119250KIT, which includes the powered converter and the necessary wiring and connectors to run it to the vehicle's...

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Harness for Class C Motorhome on 1998 Ford E350 Van Cutaway Chassis
I would first spend a few minutes trying to trace the wires feeding that 4-pole trailer connector you found. If the white ground wire had come loose from its connection with the RV frame or chassis, it would explain why you're not getting any voltage at the connector. If that fails, you'll need to simply hardwire in a new trailer connector like part # 18002. The green wire would tap into the right turn signal circuit, the yellow wire into the right turn circuit signal and the brown wire...

  • Wiring Harness for a 2007 Mitsubishi Endeavor
Since 07 Endeavors did not come with a tow package, you will need to hardwire your vehicle. The wiring system on this vehicle is not strong enough to support both the vehicle and trailer lights, so a powered converter or Modulite is required. Powered converters (Modulites) are spliced into the vehicle wiring system to get the signal, but the power for the trailer lights is drawn directly from the vehicle battery unlike non-powered systems. This bypasses all the expensive electrical components...

  • Adding a Trailer Wiring Harness to a 2007 Harley Electraglide Classic to Tow a Solace Camper
Motorcycles and trailers designed to be towed behind motorcycles have brake lights that are separate from the turn signal circuits. Provided this is true for your bike and trailer then you could wire a wiring harness directly to the bike's wiring. You would just need the proper vehicle side connector. It seems that many motorcycle trailers use a 5-Way flat so for a vehicle side you could use # HM47900. And I have also included a link to all of the vehicle side connectors we carry in case...

The Prodigy 2 brake controller is our best selling model. It can be mounted in a 360 degree vertical range and will level itself automatically. It is a proportional brake controller which means that the brakes are applied to the tow dolly at the same time and same strength as the brakes on your vehicle.
