Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2013 Chevrolet Silverado HM48420

Today in our 2013 Chevy Silverado, well be installing the Hopkins Endurance 6-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part number HM48420. This will be in conjunction with the Pollak 5th Wheel and Goose Neck Trailer Connector Wiring Harness part number PK11932. To begin our install, well take our Hopkins 6-Pole and make sure we have a hole saw large enough so that the 6-Pole can be mounted in our bedside. Were going to mount it about right here, so well go ahead and take our hole saw and drill a hole in the bed liner and side. Now we can take our wiring harness and feed it from underneath up and out the free drilled hole. Once we feed it through, well go ahead and pull it out so we can work with the end. Typically we would install a seven blade end that would connect to this wiring harness, but because we need a 6-pole trailer connector to connect to our trailer end, were going to go ahead and remove each one of these connectors.

The yellow wire will not get used at all. Well go ahead and cut off the ends. Well then go ahead and remove some of the wire loom to give us a little more working room. Ill simply take my utility knife and cut off some of the wire loom. Ill go ahead and take the yellow wire and run it back into the wire loom as it will not be used for this application, then well strip back our wires. Next well take the connector and feed the wires through it.

Well go ahead and loosen this set screw on the top connection which would also be TL for taillight. Well take our brown wire, put it into the connector and then tighten down the set screw to hold it in place. Well go clockwise around our connector, loosening the set screws, installing the wires and then securing them with the set screw. Next, its marked as AX/EB for the electrical brake connection point. Our wiring harness, that will be the blue wire. The next connection is marked RT for right turn signal will be the green wire.

Then well have LT for left turn signal will be our red wire. The center post will be for the black wire which is power to our trailer. Then we have GD for ground that will be our white wire. This ground wire is a little bit larger than our connector will allow for so were just going to trim off just enough wire to get it into the connector. Once we have it in, well tighten it down. Now once we have all the wires installed, tightened down and secured, we can wrap it up with some black electrical and then install the cover.

Well lock the connector in place and tighten down the set screw then well go ahead and finish wrapping up our wires with a black electrical tape. Once weve got it wrapped up, were ready to install it. We can secure it here directly to the bedside with some long self-tapping screws to go all the way through the bed liner into the sheath metal of the bedside. Take the wiring harness, feed it up over the frame and follow the manufacturers wiring down behind the bumper. Here behind the bumper, we can locate the manufacturers electrical connector going to the manufacturers seven blade. To remove it, well release the locking tab on it, a little easier with a flat blade screwdriver and gently prying out. Press on it releasing the connector from the back of the 7-pole. Next, well take the new wiring harness, plug directly into the manufacturers wiring, firmly pressing it together and reconnecting the connector lock. Well take the other end of our wiring harness and replace the manufacturers connector in the back of the 7-Pole, plugging in line with the manufacturers wiring, well firmly press it in place, lock it in position and then push on the connector lock. Then once we have it all connected, well go ahead and secure it with some black zip ties as necessary. Now that we have the wiring secured, well go ahead and cut off the excess zip ties to clean up our install look. That completes the install of the Hopkins Endurance 6-Pole Trailer Connector Socket part number HM48420 in conjunction with the Pollak 5th Wheel and Goose Neck Trailer Connector part number PK11932 on our 2013 Chevy Silverado. .

The Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring is still working as advertised. It makes hooking up my Fifth Wheel easy. Thanks for everything,

by:

I purchased a 5th wheel wiring harness and heat shrink butt connectors,
for my 2015 GMC Sierra. I installed a tail gate light bar and did not want to cut the factory wiring. With the harness I was able to plug into the factory trailing plug
and butt connect to the light bar, while still being able to use both the 7 blade and flat trailer connectors. It made for a easy and very clean connection. thank you to
Steve and the E trailer web site for helping make this a easy job.

by:

If you viewed the Dodge ram video you think this item is coming with more then it is. Read the fine print. This is just the wiring harness. It does not include the connector or self tapping screws. The connector in the bed of the truck is another $18. and you are on your own for the self tapping screws.

They need to take down the Dodge Ram video and make a new one showing what you do get with this wiring harness and what else you must buy to make it work.

Very misleading.

Wish I had of seen or read the related products as I did not realize a Reese socket would not work. Other wise a breeze to install

  • Gooseneck and 5th Wheel Wiring Harness Recommendation for a 2007 Ford F-250 Super Duty
I would recommend you get the Curt Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # C56000 as it comes with everything you would need, and would simply just plug inline with the factory 7-way at the rear of your 2007 Ford F250 Super Duty. I attached an installation video for this product for you to check out also. • Draw-Tite Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2009 GMC Sierra
I would recommend you use a Curt Fifth Wheel and Gooseneck Wiring Harness # C56000. This unit will plug right in line with the factory 7-way at the rear of your vehicle to provide you with a 7-way near your 5th wheel hitch, and will not require you to wire anything up like the Pollak 5th Wheel and Gooseneck Trailer Connector Wiring Harness # PK11932 would.

  • Wiring Parts Needed to Connect F-250 7-Way Socket to Lights on Headache Rack
All lighting functions are accessible at the 7-way socket on your 2001 F-250. The function(s) carried on each of the 7-way contacts are shown in the linked photo. The easiest way to tap into these circuits is to install a 5th wheel wiring harness like # PK11932. This harness plugs in in parallel to the existing 7-way. Just remove the round U.S. Car connector at the back of your 7-way socket and plug in the PK11932 between the OEM harness and the socket. This will give you 7-1/2-feet of...

  • Wiring Lights in a Headache Rack to a 2009 Ford F-350
The cleanest way to install lights on your headache rack is to tap into the wiring harness under the truck instead of plugging something into the connector at the back on your 2009 Ford F-350. Since there is no standard for wire color and function the only way to know the functions is to test them using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. Or, if your truck has the factory 7-Way connector at the back you could Tee into it using wiring harness # PK11932. One end plugs in line with the...

For your 1995 Ford F-250 HD, I recommend the 7-Way Connector 7 Foot Loop, # 20027. This harness plugs into your existing 7-Way. You can then route the cable how you want to the bed of the truck. I recommend drilling a hole in the side of the bed rail, routing the cable down through the bed rail to the bottom of the truck, and then mounting the end for your trailer in the bed where you drilled the hole. You can then route the other end under the truck and connect it to your existing 7-Way....

  • Recommended Truck Bed Mounted Gooseneck/5th Wheel Trailer Connector for 2015 Ford F350 Dually
The Pollak # PK11932 should work just fine for you, although I personally prefer the Bargman # 50-97-410 because it comes pre-assembled and the 90 degree connection at the 7-way in the truck bed makes the connector easier to install. Ultimately, either would work fine for you. I've linked you to install videos for both connectors. You'll be able to see how much easier the Bargman connector is to install.

  • Can I Remove the Blue Locking Keeper on the Pollak 7-Way
I have a solution but no there is no way to remove the blue locking ring in the Pollak 7-Way item # PK11932. I recommend cutting the red and brown wires behind the connector and splicing the correct ones together using 16-14 Gauge Butt Connectors item # 05731-5 then taping them up. There is no way to remove the blue locking keeper without damaging the entire connector. That keeper attaches to each pin individually.
