Wiring Lights in a Headache Rack to a 2009 Ford F-350

Question:

What is the cleanest way to wire this? Should I get an adapter to plug into the harness of the truck at the rear bumper or can I tag into the wire harness in the frame rail? If I go to the frame rail, where is best and what are the wire colors for each function?

The cleanest way to install lights on your headache rack is to tap into the wiring harness under the truck instead of plugging something into the connector at the back on your 2009 Ford F-350.

Since there is no standard for wire color and function the only way to know the functions is to test them using a circuit tester such as # PTW2993. Or, if your truck has the factory 7-Way connector at the back you could Tee into it using wiring harness # PK11932.

One end plugs in line with the factory 7-Way and the other end has just the wires with spade terminals (the other parts you would not need). The harness is 7-1/2 feet long so it will get you most of the way to the front of the bed. On the harness the red wires is left turn/brake, white is ground, green is right turn and brake, yellow is reverse lights, and brown is tail lights. The others you would not need so they can be taped up and stowed out of the way.
