Ellen: Hey everybody. I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're taking a quick look at the GSI Outdoors Santoku Style Chef's Knife. So this is going to be kind of a cross between a Santoku or a traditional Japanese knife and your more typical Western chef knife. So normally your Santoku knife would have the straight back, sheepsfoot like you see, but then it would be a straight blade. This has a bit of a curve so it's going to be more similar to that chef's knife that we know here in the West. So you can actually rock the blade up and do that chopping motion that a lot of us are familiar with.
Normally again, that Santoku style would be just straight across. So it should be kind of a blend of the two styles. That sheepsfoot design keeps the blade from being too sharp so you don't have to worry about it being a pointy knife at the end, kind of a little bit safer in that regard. Should be a great chopper and slice and dicer. It's a stainless steel blade so it should hold its edge pretty well. The handle is pretty basic, but still fairly comfortable.
So I think it should probably work pretty well for just about any kind of kitchen, whether this is for your RV or camping kitchen. As you can see, just pretty straight forward knife there and should work out pretty well. I like that it comes with the sheet to keep the blade protected and you and your gear as well. So you don't have to worry about anything getting cut by that blade once it's in your pack or in the drawer, so just helps to keep it safe. Again, that handle, pretty basic. It's just going to be a straight kind of blocky handle.
It's not too bad to hold onto. It does have a little bit of cushion with the rubbery grip there. There's also a hole at the end, so you can put a safety strap through there if you prefer and or you can hang it from a hook in your camping setup, your RV setup. As far as the size. Overall, it measures about 11 inches long. The blade itself is right about six inches.
With the sheet, it shouldn't be too much different. It's a little over 11 and about 11 and a quarter now. Width is about one and three-quarter. The handle is about a half inch across. It weighs almost four ounces. It is covered by a limited lifetime warranty from GSI Outdoors. That really is about all there is to it for our quick look at this blade. I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is the right one for you. I have that in there upside down. Here we go. So I think this is going to be a nice addition to your kitchen overall and should be a great cutter and slicer for many years to come. We have a lot of other accessories for your camping kitchen, RV supplies and more so definitely check those out right here at etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
