Brophy Stake Pocket Tie Down Dimensions and Specs

Simple, Secure, and Convenient

Stake Pocket Tie Down Clamp Examples

Installing these tie-downs is pretty darn simple. They'll just slide into the stake pockets on your truck and you'll drill in some bolts through the pockets and the top of the rail to secure them. They fit snugly and there's no guesswork about where they mount on the rail. Tucked into the stake pockets, they're conveniently out of your way if you want to use your bed for hauling something other than your camper.

Securing your Camper

Camper w TieDowns

To secure your camper to your truck, you'll also need a tie-down hardware package consisting of turnbuckles, S-hooks, and chains (TDHP - sold separately). This hardware attaches to the anchors on your camper to the tie-downs on your truck to keep your camper secure safely mounted. Once you tighten the turnbuckles to the correct level of tension (not too tight!), you'll be good to hit the road.

product was well built and easy to install. hold Downs feel very solid as installed on the truck. good value for the money.

Nate

product is still working fine a year and 2 trips to Canada later. I used the stake pocket hold downs because my truck bed was rusted out where the clamp on hold downs would normally go. it works just fine.

by:

Used these on my 2012 Tundra Crew max Had to put in more effort in the installation then the instruction tell or show.
for example the truck pockets where these slide into I had too cut the plastic that was covering the holes,
I removed the tail light on one side to get the top bolt screwed in.
I had to remove the gas cap and plastic to secure the top bold.
I also added bigger washers cause there are existing hole that hold the factory plastic so the nut couldn't slide out and away.

Other then that these mount work great

by:

I was hesitant about getting these because I wasn't sure if they would fit. I have a '65 Chevy C-10 and was concerned they would not work because any more, everything is about all the new vehicles on the road, not the oldies. But after consulting with the people at etrailer, I ordered them and couldn't have been happier. I did have to remove the metal tabs (they pry off), but after that, I measured, marked, drilled, and installed the tie-downs in about 20 minutes tops. Loaded the camper and the tie downs worked great. Took it camping 4 times so far and the tie downs are still solid as a rock. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Overall, very simple and easy to install the Brophy tie downs. The hardware was honestly garbage.. weak grade that undoubtedly would not hold up to this weight and movement. Used heavy duty bolts to secure it to bed rails and stake pocket. So far, 200 miles driven in snow without much movement, but a bit worried about the longevity of the tie downs. This camper will stay permanently in the bed of the truck, so I will throw in some through bolts into the bed of the truck (peace of mind). Turn buckles seem to be good (other than a factory snag that sliced me open). So far happy with the product, could have been made a bit better for an extra cost; I definitely would have paid more for a two sided stake pocket bolt through. With only one tab for mounting to top side of bed rails this seems excessively weak.. do you see the gap in the stake pocket? It was seated when drilling and lagging it down. Started to turn under pressure.

by:

Installed easily. Had to us longer bolts for the back two posts on my 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 Quad Cab. Also, had to trim some the factory plastic bed liner. No big deal. I took it for a test drive and one of the back brackets seems to twist a bit. I loosed the turnbuckles a little and it is better. I guess I had them too tight. I will be taking the camper on a mini-getaway and will add any new developments. So far, very happy with the product!

by:

Not compatible with 99 Ford F-150, even though the description said it was. Stake pockets are double walled on this truck. Bolts too short. Very frustrating.

3/12/2024

I agree that it needs to be clearer that the stake pockets work with single walled versus double walled side rails. I am having it added to the tech tips. I will have our Customer Service team reach out to you to discuss returning them.

by:

Not strong enough, on a rough 1 mile dirt road to get into the ranch we stay at, the rocking twisted the Brophys. Had a local Albuquerque trailer dealer install heavier duty frame mounted tie downs.

by:

I see that you had contacted us and advised that you had a 2010 F 150 truck that was built in September of 2010. There are cases where a late in the model year build is actually the next years build which means that the 2010 would have a 2011 frame design. Since these tie downs only fit up to 2010, it would cause a non fit for you. You will want to reach out to Ford to confirm the build design year of your truck.

by:

I like the tie dowms, don't have new truck yet to see how they fit.

by:

After a few slight modifications the brophy camper tie downs worked like a champ!

by:

Good product. Only problem is with packaging, the painted black parts should be wrapped to prevent chipping which exposes the bare metal. Box contained stacked parts which were banging around in the box resulting in chipped paint...early deterioration potential from rust, and not new appearance.

by:

It bent under load

I wanted to ask you a few more questions about the tie downs. Do you still have them? How much weight would you estimate your camper weighs? These tie downs are meant to be used for campers up to 8 feet long, including any cab over portion. They are not meant to be used with 2011 and newer trucks.

by:

This set of Brophy stake pocket tie downs came with a note in the instructions that they would not work for any vehicle newer than a 2011. My RAM 2500 has the ABS bed caps on the side. I removed them and enlarged the stake pocket holes using the pre-stamped template on the bed caps. Once I reinstalled the bed caps, the camper tie downs dropped into the stake pockets. I had read other reviews that the lag bolts were prone to stripping out. So I drilled 3/8" holes through the bedside and through the camper tie downs. Then I welded a 3/8" nut on the backside of the camper tie downs. Now all is well and secure. I think this is a good product, and I prefer it over the Brophy camper tie downs that clamp to the lip of the bed. I just wish there was a securement method that didn't involve lag bolts.

Jim K.

10/17/2017

Im still very pleased with the product

by:

The stake pockets were easy to install with the hardware provided. The dealer I purchased my camper from asked where I had gotten the mounts and I told him about etrailer.com and he was impressed with the mount and tie-down package as an economical package. My only wish was that the powder-coating on the mounts would have been a little nicer, or the packaging a little better. There was a noticeable amount of nicks and scratches in the paint that detract from the appearance. Nothing that affects performance, just cosmetic appeal.

Phill S.

8/31/2016

The Tie-down brackets and tie-down hardware kit are working fine. They are a good, inexpensive solution for securing my camper to my pick-up.I appreciate the follow-up. You folks are great to work with.

by:

Great for use on the 85 Chevy dually. Fit was ok, held the medium four star camper pretty good. Not sure if want them holding a medium or large camper on a newer truck, the thick sheet metal on the old trucks aide the brackets. The brackets themselves are sturdy and I bet would not been before the truck or camper broke in half.

Dennis B.

3/30/2019

Great, finish is durable. Still function properly, did not cause wear on the truck

by:

Quality parts, however the mounting holes were not usable. Had to drill new holes in the rear set, also had to use self tapping screws instead of the hardware that was supplied.

You mentioned that the mounting holes were not usable and I wanted to see if you could explain in more detail what you mean? Would you be able to send pictures?

by:

I have a large truck bed camper on my 1991 Dodge W250 that I tried these on. I went this route because I didn't want to spend $2k on Torklift mounts and Fastguns. These came on time and installed super easy, but just had too much flex for me to be comfortable with the size of my load. Ended up going the Torklift route and couldn't be happier. This is a decently made product, just not for me.

by:

Great product and reasonably priced.
I
made a few modifications because I didn’t think they were secure enough on the truck
They are now bolted on in 2 places to ease my mind. Pics attached

by:

Stout materials, but they dont fit the stake pocket very well. They are loose in the pocket and are expected to be held in place with a few screws/bolts. Mine tilted to one side when tightening the turnbuckles to hold it in place, and dented the top rail of the bed. Next time I will use a frame mounted system.

by:

They don't seem to be rigid enough. They bent really bad when I was on a rough road. That caused the camper to be loose which wasn't good for my taillights.

by:

The tie downs arrived quickly and were what I expected them to be with a reasonable price. My only suggestion might be to sell them in pairs instead of 4's. I have an application where I only need 2....Otherwise the etrailer site has worked very well for me.

Db

3/20/2015

Still love etrailer. The tie downs turned to be at the wrong angleposition for my camper so I went another route. But the mistake was mine, so Im keeping them, I have a friend who intends to use them.

by:

WOW - MUCH better than attaching my big cab-over camper to the bumper with chains in the back and a welded piece of 2X2 square tubing attached to the frame in the front.

Very easy to install - just had to go get a couple drill bits - no big deal. These tie-downs will be much stronger than any S-hooks or turn-buckles could possibly bend.

I did use threaded connecting links rather than S-hooks - I think they will hold better.
