Lever-Action Derringer Handles

Standard turnbuckles have to be manually tightened, which can be a bit of a chore. TorkLift AnchorGuard turnbuckles with Derringer handles eliminate this difficult step. Just hook one end of each turnbuckle onto your camper and hook the other end onto the camper tie-downs that are mounted to your truck bed rails or stake pockets, or your bumper. Then, to tighten the turnbuckles, flip the lever-action handles down - it's that simple. Pins are included to secure the handles in place, ensuring that your tie-down system remains tight and secure. For additional security and peace of mind, use TorkLift's FastGun pin locks (TLS9500 - sold separately) in place of the pins to more effectively lock the system down.

TorkLift AnchoGuard Turnbuckle with Derringer Handle in Use

When you reach your campsite and you're ready to set up, just remove the pins (or locks), and flip the handles up to release the tension on the turnbuckles. With the tension released, you can quickly and easily remove the turnbuckles, activate your jacks, and set up your camper. This quick-disconnect feature is also great if one of the attached turnbuckles covers your truck's fuel tank door. No need to manually twist an older style turnbuckle and remove chains to disengage the entire system. Just pop the handle up, unhook the turnbuckle so you can move it out of the way, and fuel up.

This first thing to know is that this review is for the TLS9020 as sold and delivered by etrailor on this date. This is important because the picture of the product on the etrailor site shows square section turnbuckle bodies as opposed to circular sectioned turnbuckle bodies as shown on the Torklift site.
The instruction booklet that is included does in fact show the circular turnbuckles so I am assuming the cicular ones are a newer model than the ones I recieved. For my need I much prefered the rectangular ones and I am very pleased to have recieved what the etrailor site pictured.
If you recieve the rectangular TLS9020 as I did there are a couple of small issues easily corrected. 1)the product is shipped with all stainless hardware except for the 1/2"
zinc plated square nuts that you are supposed to insert in the body of the derringer handle to attach the threaded rod. I replaced these with stainless stop nuts. 2) there was some amount of excess weld on the the handles that dis-allowed correct alignment of the stainless 1/2" threaded rod into the handle. Grind or cut some of the excess off to correct. 3)the long "front" labled turnbuckles are in fact springloaded but the short "rear" ones have no cushions. For my camper tie down application this was not an problem. 4)the little rubber o-rings which are a handy way to gauge the tension were not included. No big deal. Just go get some at your local hardware store.
These are minor issues for the quality you get. I have used all of the other products other manufacturers sell. Don't waste your money. The Torklift ones are the only way to go and more than worth the cost.

by:

The lock nuts did not fully tighten to the turnbuckle because the weld interfered with the nut before it could seat. The short rods were too short which necessitated a trip to Home Depot to fetch longer ones. I move it up one star because of fast delivery and consistent order ease with etrailer. But TorkLift your name and reputation is taking a bit of a beating with this product.

by:

We purchased these for our slide in truck camper. On our way to Montana, the screw came loose and the bottom portion of the turnbuckle fell off somewhere in the dust. Thankfully, the replacement part purchased at a local hardware store was only $xx. The nuts on these turnbuckles do need to be tightened during long drives, so that was done regularly. All in all, a good product.

by:

Using these with frame mounted tie down brackets. These are excellent quality and hold camper snug in bed, absorbing shock on bumpy roads. These will save you from damaging your camper.

by:

I am 100% satisfied. Excellent product. Very sturdy. Easy to install.
Thank You Brittany for excellent delivery.

by:

I had no problems with ordering from etrailer but I was unhappy that these actually cannot be locked as advertised. I believe that is actually the manufacturers fault. Even with locks through the handles, it's easy to turn the turnbuckle and loosen them so they can be stolen. They do function well, but I wish they could actually be locked.

The turnbuckles are indeed lockable, but only if the optional locking pins, part # TLS9500 are used.

by:

You sent me two long and two short turnbuckles. I also ordered the frame mounts for them. I could not use the short turn buckles as they were not long enough! I would say you sent me the wrong kit number! Probably my last purchase.

by:

great product, easy install

by:

Etrailer is awesome we already know that. But torklift sent me fine thread hex nuts and not coarse thread. How is that possible? It seems Torklift has some quality control issues to sort out. I’m not the first to report this issue. I’m leaving for a trip tomorrow and this mistake they made turned these already expensive anchors to more expensive. The photo shows the correct thread in the square but vs. the fine in the hex.

(March 2018). This is more of a review of the service rec'vd by etrailer.com rather than on the products themselves; I just rec'vd the shipment and have not had a chance to use them yet - its still winter here and the camper is still under snow. But, the service is exceptionally good and worth noting. Many retailers won't ship to Alaska for some unknown reasons. They don't know that Anchorage is the fourth largest cargo hub in the western hemisphere and generally, when we do order items we get them well before the shipper tells us we will. Why? Note mention of hub earlier. Dah. I order items in the winter months well ahead of summer so that I have them when I need them. The items sit in my garage patiently waiting for me to use them. etrailer.com has very good customer service. Far better than [other online retailers]. I have placed orders with etrailer.com and if it can't be filled or they need additional info, they call me! What? Call me? You betcha. Excellent and very much appreciated. When I do rec'v them, the items are all well packed and after delivery, they send a follow up message. So, yes, I will continue to order from these folks.

by:

Excellent website and product. As with most things these days had to place order and wait for stock. Was shipped as soon as they got it.

Over 60 nights nights out, and would still highly recommend!

by:

Very satisfied with the service.

by:

Great product. Not cheap but well built and high quality. These don't work loose like previous chains and turnbuckles. You can remove or adjust quickly. They keep our camper in place on rougher roads.

by:

I needed these tiedowns immediately as I discovered my old ones were rusted when I went to load the camper. Information on etrailer’s website was accurate so selecting the proper tie downs was easy. Ordering process was pain-free and allowed many options for shipping. I selected 2 day shipping and it arrived in two days.

The tie downs look to be very well made. All fasteners were made of stainless steel and the buckle portion appears to be powder coated. Easy installation and adjustment. Works perfectly. Holds my Lance camper securely and eliminated some sway. Locks were kind of expensive, but worth the investment.

Overall, delighted with the service and happy with the products. Would definitely recommend for light to medium weight, bed mounted campers.

by:

Forklift tie downs are manufactured to exact fit to existing manufactured frame rail holes. They lined up perfectly and after 6000 miles with camper on board have stayed secure. The only downside, (this is relative to when and ware you use you camper) they will corrode when driving through snow covered roads that have been treated with sand and/or salt. I use an oil based product to protect them corroding.

by:

Excellent quality, great experience with etrailer. Only one issue, Torklift advertises the derringers are lockable and they sell locks for that purpose. However,
they can easily be removed simply be loosening the turn buckles attached at the threaded rod

by:

They seem very nice, BUT I wish they had sent 4 ss lock washers for the nuts that lock the threaded rod to the quick connect lock downs. It would be a good safety against loosening , and the nut corners hit the bottom of the weldments and are hard to tighten down. Locknuts would ad just enough space to eliminate that interference (I know as I added them myself). I purchased 2 longer rods and cut them to match the long ones and didn't have to add some silly chain extension.

by:

I purchased a set of 4, Torklift Derringer Turnbuckles. The product arrived in perfect timing and condition, and etrailer sold these turnbuckles for much cheaper compared to everywhere else I was looking. Great product. AMAZING price. Professional service.

by:

Every thing good except for wrong hex nuts, they are for fine threads not coarse. Already bought some replacements, but might want to check these out before shipping.

I reached out to Torklift about the hex nut issue and they said that the nuts that come with the kit should be a half inch with a 13 thread pitch which is considered coarse thread. If you need replacement nuts, they have agreed to send you new nuts.

by:

The quality is good it’s just mess up that you don’t carry the ones the are framed mounted. If you buy the longer ones you only get two for the price that I bought four two long and two short ones

by:

Awesome product. 16,000 miles last year mostly on back and off road over terrain I’d sometime rather not have gone and not 1 issue with the tie downs.

by:

I have total confidence rolling down the road with these tie downs securing my pickup camper. Very easy to use also.

by:

Product arrived missing 8 each 1/2" lock nuts. I had to go buy my own since I needed to pick my new camper up. Very expensive option and it had parts missing.

by:

A great product delivered from a great company. Customer Service with etrailer is fantastic and I’m very pleased with the product and the promptness of delivery. I definitely recommend etrailer for your vehicle needs.

  • Are the Torklift Anchor Guard Derringer Turnbuckles Compatible with Happijac Tie Down System
I spoke with my contact at Torklift and he informed me that as long as your Happijac system is the bed mount style yes, the TorkLift AnchorGuard Derringer Turnbuckles # TLS9020 would work for you. If you are using the Happijac frame style like you said you have then no, the Happijac system would not be long enough to be compatible with the # TLS9020.
