Hey, everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we're gonna talk about the hitch pin and cable lock kit for your Hollywood Racks bike racks right here at etrailer. Now, some of your Hollywood Racks bike racks already have locks on their frame mounts so you might wonder, "Why would I need a cable lock kit" Well, if you lost or need to replace the lock on your hitch pin, then it is helpful to have a kit that's all keyed alike. Another example would be if you have a step-through bike that needs a frame adapter bar to be used with a frame mount like this. In that case, with the adapter, you won't be able to lock it down so your cable lock might be your only option for securing that type of a bike.
So, the way this works is you have an open hitch pin spot inside of your hitch receiver so you're just gonna pop that hitch pin through. So, once that's through, you then tighten down on this knob until it secures that hitch pin to the receiver. So, this works as your anti-rattle device. With that all in place, it secures your hitch receiver so now we just need to lock it. Just pop that lock right onto that pin.
So, it's not spring loaded so you do need to put your key in there to secure it. Helpful so you don't accidentally lock it without your keys. And when that's done, put your dust cap back on there. The cable lock with this kit is going to be eight feet long. So, for your four-bike racks, that's gonna be helpful for putting this around four bikes.
For your two-bike platform rack like this one is, you'll have even more space to run this through your front wheels, your frames, whatever you think needs to be secured on your bikes. And then the lock locks into itself. That way, you don't have to worry about losing space with trying to get it into the hitch receiver or into the bike rack bracket. Use your keys to secure it, lock it, double check it. Now, you're good.
This is a braided steel cable with a vinyl covering. So, you have that steel for security but you have that covering. That way, even as it rubs up against your frame, you're not worried about scratches. Now, some things about this cable lock. You could bring this with you as you ride around. So that way, if you needed to put your bike in front of a restaurant or a cafe real quick, you could use this with their bike stand. Now, I personally do not recommend driving around with a cable lock installed just because there are more points of contacts with your bike. As you go over those bumps and road vibration, you may wanna avoid having that on there. So, definitely something helpful for it to be quick to install. That way, when you're parked at a gas station or at the park, you can wrap this around real quick. Now, this is keyed alike. You do get two keys and you will only need to use one key to access the whole system. So, if you're upgrading or you're replacing your current hitch pin lock, I do recommend just getting the whole kit right away. That way, you have an extra cable lock even if you think you may not need it and you know they all work together. So, for your bike racks, we have pretty much all the parts you need. I bought this mostly for the extra pin and lock. Even though the number on the key is the same as the one a year before(206) this with the Hollywood rack, the keys are NOT the same. The quality is great but I wanted the locked to be keyed the same.
Great package deal, the 4 keys allow my wife and I each to keep one or our key ring plus one in the car and an extra for an emergency. The cable is long enough to secure our backs to our Curt bike carrier and we feel confident everything is secure with these locks in place.
