Recommendation for Securing a Cargo Carrier and Items On It to the Vehicle

Im wondering about how secure the folding carrier is vs the fixed ones. Looks like a pin and cotter pin are all that secures it at the pivot. I dont want to lock on my generator only to have someone remove the carrier at the pivot.

You are correct the Draw-Tite Hitch Cargo Carrier, item # 6502, could be removed from the shank that installs in the receiver with the proper tools. The best method I know of the secure the carrier and the parts on it is to use the Hollywood Racks 2" Hitch Lock and 8' Cable Lock for Bike Racks # HRLHPC2.
This cable and hitch pin lock will secure the carrier shank in the hitch of the vehicle and the cable can be used to secure any items on the cargo carrier.
If you already have a hitch pin lock then a cable and lock like the 10 foot Long Cable Lock, item # e98891, could be used to lock the items on the cargo carrier to the safety chain loop on your trailer hitch.
