Video Transcript for Fulton Outboard Motor Lock Review

AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be checking out this outboard motor lock from Fulton, splits into two different pieces. You have the top and these cutouts that are going to go around the handles of the clamps that hold your motor to the back of your boat. And you got the foam padding, it's going to be kind of a sound dampener. That way it doesn't make a whole bunch of noise when you're driving around with it on your trailer. This isn't going to be rattling around.

You just put the bottom part on there, then make sure you line out the cutouts with the handles, and make sure the handles are turned to the side as well, that way they fit in the two metal bars. There you go. And then you just push it together. It's all locked up and nobody can mess with it.So you've probably seen a couple of different ways to lock your motor to your boat. I know I saw on the handles, they got the little holes in there.

You kind of twist them together and run a padlock through the middle. That's easy, it works, but also those handles are easy to break. So one of that hole could break off and you can't use a lock on one of the sides and that's kind of useless then. This one is just a better overall system compared to that and a cable lock that kind of just wraps around. You have to find where to wrap it and where to attach it.

This easily just goes over those handles, pushes together, and you're done.Looking down at the comments section, we see a lot of our customers really enjoy this lock. They say it's really helped them out. One, in particular, said that they actually had to replace a lock because somebody did try to steal their motor, but the lock held up. They just damaged the outside a little bit, but their motor was still there when they came back. Now obviously no lock is perfect.

So it's not the end-all be-all solution to no one ever taking your motor. But I think it's going to keep people from messing with yours just by looking at it.I see the steel bar on there and go, "Nah, I'm good. I'm going to go ahead and get the bolt cutters and do something a little bit easier." Does come with a set of keys so you can remove it easily whenever you need to. But I don't see any reason why you need to do that unless you need to do maintenance on it or take it into the shop. Otherwise, I would just leave his bar on there all the time, better safe than sorry. All in all, I really like the lock. It's nice and sturdy. It's not going to pop off, not going to rattle off, and people aren't going to mess with it. I also like it because it's custom made for this application. It's not just a cable lock you're repurposing or a padlock that can be use on anything. I mean, that's great. It can be, but I like that it's made for this. That way it's going to stay on this and people are going to stay away from your motor. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helped.

Still perfect.

etrailer has been superb as an equipment partner. They are prompt, responsive and easy to communicate with. The Fulton lock is just a lock but unfortunately, it is made in China so it’s durability and integrity are both suspect. I have tried diligently to avoid any Chinese made safety gear for my sailboat and family.

So far, quite nicely with no apparent problems.

Works great for my 15hp motor. The foam is perfect to prevent rattle noise. eTrailer.com is such a great retailer. Fast shipping and awesome communication. Much preferred over subscription based retailers.

by:

This boat lock is easy to install and looks great. It keeps my motor secure.

by:

It is heavier than I thought for an other wise light boat. That plus I was concerned it would rattle making boat noisy for fishing. So, I haven't used it yet after having it for a year. I went back to a cable and padlock in the warm months and put motor inside for the winter. I may try it next season since I already have it.

Lock just fit in otherwise awkward outboard space.

5 pole connector cover is great, surprisingly tough to find. Now if you had the equivalent for the trailer side of the connector that would rate an excellent

I have purchased products from e-trailer more than once and am very happy with the products and the service provided. Good value and shipping time is very good as well. I will definitely use e-trailer again.

by:

Had to shift my motor slightly to one side to get it on but no big issue. Works great. I do hope the keys are all different so another owner if one of these locks can’t use it on mine. What say you?

by:

etrailer is a great company to deal with. Courteous, efficient and a great selection of products to choose from are just a few of the benefits of ordering what you need from them.

Its great. Does the job. Easy to put on and off with key. Just sits there quietly and does what its supposed to. Bought this because the original one was damaged by someone trying to steal my motor. They were unsuccessful, it did the job. Great product.

by:

by:

Does the job, average build and ease of use. Motor is still in my possession, so….

The Fulton Outboard Motor Lock # FOML0127 is a universal-fit item intended to fit a broad range of motors. However, it will work only outboard motors that have the swivel handles that are used to tighten the mounting bolts that secure the motor to the transom. The manual does not provide much detail about the mounting scheme but it appears to be a semi-permanent installation...

I spoke with my contact at Fulton and he informed me that while they have never heard of the issue you are describing with the Fulton Outboard Motor Lock # FOML0127 he said that the best solution would be for you to lubricate the locking pins as much as you can with a penetrating oil like WD40, let it soak, and it should free up and let you unlock it.
