Speaker 1: Today we're taking a look at the Thule XADAPT2 AeroBlade and Xsporter Load Bar Adapter for Roof-Mounted Carriers. This kit allows you to mount your roof-mounted carriers to Thule load bars with channels, like the Rapid Aero, AeroBlade, and Xsporter load bars. It works with the Thule Big Mouth or the upright bike racks 599XT and 599XTR, and also the Thule FlatTop ski carriers TH724 and 725.All the pieces that you get are laid out right here. You get your cam lever handle. You get the necessary bolts. You get the plates and the spacers.
In the instructions, you're going to notice that it has, really, three different sets of instructions. The first one is for using the 599 XT Ultimate Upright Bike Carrier. For this setup, you would use three of the 25 millimeter T-bolts, and then you would use three of the spacers. It walks you through exactly how to get that installed. I just want to show you that process there, and then you have another set of instructions right here.This one is for mounting the 599 XTR Ultimate Upright Bike Rack.
In this case, you would need to use the fastener plate, which is the large plate, the large spacer, and then you would need to use the cam handle with the barrel nut, and you would need to use all three smaller spacers as well as all three square head bolts. Again, it walks you through how to get that installed. It all just slides into the T-slots. Really easy process, does a great job in walking you through the whole installation setup.Then the last thing I want to mention is for the ski carriers, this is that third set of instructions I'm talking about. You'll see here that the only thing that's needed is four of the 35 millimeter T-bolts, and they slide in.
They go right up through the carrier, and then it just says you'd follow the ski carrier instructions for proper tightening of the ski carrier to the rack. So, easy-to-use design. Again, this is an adapter kit that allows you to mount your roof-mounted carriers to Thule load bars with channels such as the Rapid Aero, AeroBlade, and Xsporter load bars.

This adapter will allow you to mount the Thule roof-mounted carriers to the Thule Rapid Aero, AeroBlade and Xsporter load bars.Adapter works perfectly on 2020 Audi Q5 (VW) But didn’t need all the xtra hardware for Thule Big Mouth bike rack. (Ca 2003) . 3 of the short bolts per unit did the trick and of course the rubber inlays to prevent scratching and rattling are perfect.
I used the XADAPT2 kit to convert my Thule Bigmouth bike carriers to fit the OEM Volkswagen cross bars on my 2016 Jetta sedan. The bike carriers originally had clamps to fit the Thule square cross bars, and this kit allowed me to convert the carriers to fit in the T-slots of the VW cross bars. The kit was originally designed for older VWs, but the T-slot dimensions have not changed for the modern VW cross bars. I would venture to guess that the kit should work for the OEM cross bars of any modern VW rather than just the Jetta, since the VW bike carriers are not model specific. A great quality kit, and perfect for my application!

I used this to fit an old (1994) Thule Big Mouth bike rack to a factory 1994 VW Jetta Votex roof rack. The bike rack was originally fitted to a Thule square tube rack. Fits perfect, but has many extra parts. The only parts that were needed my me were 3 square plastic tabs and 3 of the "T" bolts, so there are many left overs, but for the price I don't think I can complain much. I'm glad the kit was available.
Instructions were pretty useless.
Very good quality product with a little problem. Track is connected to a bracket by one bolt and the bolt was getting loose. I had to buy a little bit longer bolt, use a spring washer and washer, problem solved. See picture. Assembly instructions could be better.
Well, if you rely strictly on the Thule instructions, you're in for a real treat. I would actually claim it would be nearly impossible to install your 599XTR on aerobars using just those instructions. I ended up looking up some accompanying videos online to assist with my conceptualization of the install process. Once I figured it out, it was VERY easy to install the adapter kit and the 599XTR Wide Mouths. Nice engineering.
Hats off to etrailer for carrying and timely delivery to get parts for things I need. I had these bicycle racks for a while and lost two of the adapters in a move. I couldn't even figure out how to get them from the dealer / manufacturer, but with etrailer it was easy. They are my "go to" source for parts when it comes to trailers parts and accessories.

The XADAPT2 works as designed. I ordered one to install a 1994-era Thule 599 Upright Bike Carrier (predates the 599xt and 599xtr Big Mouth carriers) onto my new Thule Aeroblade load bars. Earlier, I installed the Aeroblade load bars and 480R Rapid Traverse Foot Pack onto my car, so now those adjustments were already made. Later I took the bars off the car until I was ready to try the upright installation.
I placed the bars with foot packs across a couple of wooden chairs in sawhorse fashion, which was much better than working on the floor. I printed the XADAPT2 instructions from the Thule website, laid out all my parts, and went to work.
The XADAPT2 contains everything you need. Fortunately, the Thule mounting plates have stayed basically the same since the original 599 upright. The cam handle (lever) that came with the XADAPT2 is slightly different from my originals and actually easier to clamp down. You don't have make full 360 degree turns as you seek the right clamping pressure like the earlier design. This is especially helpful because the XADAPT2 spacers add enough shim height that the clamp is either too tight or too loose. With the 180 degree turns you can get the right amount of clamping force without risking damage to the Aeroblade bars. I like this newer style lever so much that I was able to order some to use on the front plate.

Had everything I needed to convert a THule Big Mouth Bike carrier made for square cross bars to fit Thule Aeroblade cross bars with parts to spare. The directions seem to be for some other conversion, but it's not hard to figure out what to do for this conversion.

This kit solved the problem of attaching a new Thule Big Mouth Upright bike rack to an existing Thule Aero bar.
All the parts and pieces fit together in what is a truly elegant design to mate the bike rack to the bar without having to upgrade to a new bar costing $200.00, so the added benefit is a significant cost saving.

The instructions were pretty awful to decipher (mostly because there are parts here for several different set-ups depending on your car and bar). The parts were great, though, and it all worked out nicely.
And, as always, e-trailer has my very highest rating in terms of processing and shipping orders. They always amaze me.
Product is great. I used it to attach a 599XT Big Mouth to Aeroblades. A couple of pieces were surplus, but I think the rack already had a fit kit with it. Instructions were ok, but I was pretty sure what pieces I needed anyway. The reason for the low rating was the lack of communication regarding my order. The initial order indicated availability within a week. I checked online a few days later, and the date kept getting pushed out further and further. I received the product 8 weeks after ordering. I understand this was an issue with the supplier, but I think the communication could have been better. I would never have known my product was on backorder if I had not checked. I'll probably use etrailer again, but will check on the order after a couple of days to confirm it is going to be on time.
A bit expensive for what it is, but it does do the trick-- hooks up a BigMouth rack onto VW OEM cross bars and (and I suppose other cross bars with 3/4 inch channels.) The enclosed instructions are sparsely illustrated, but were sufficient after reading them closely.
Perfect for putting an old Thule flat top ski rack on a new set of factory Volvo cross rails with the t track.
Product quality is good. The manuals are terrible, leaving you with a lot of trial and error. etrailer sent one of the XADAPT2 packages completely open (plastic package without staples). Luckily, none of the small parts were lost, but could have definitely happened. Fast shipping and delivery.
Product is great and made for a nice clean attachment of the Big Mouth bike rack to my Thule areo blade system. Instructions race much to be desired but assembly was somewhat instinctual looking at the pieces.
Great product adapter. Thule recommended buying another $300 mount system. Not needed at all.
