Hello, neighbors. I'm Steve here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking at the Replacement Key for your Thule Rack Board Carriers, specifically key number N2872. Now, how do you know which key you need Well, it's actually quite simple. Simply go to your carrier or your rack, look at the lock core, and, right next to where the key inserts, you should see a number engraved on that core face. That's the key number you're looking for.

The replacement key I ordered for my Sportrack cargo carrier worked perfectly! Such a relief and convenient. All I had to do was match it to the number on the carrier lock.
After doing the research to find new keys for our Sears 20-SV cargo carrier, we bought the set from etrailer that matched the lock number because the people running the site seemed to say they would work in the lock and you can’t get them from Sears anymore. THEY DO NOT WORK. Looks like we’ll be adding an external hasp and padlock to our carrier.

I had an old Karrite cargo carrier given to me and needed a spare key. Perfect match for my spare. I previously used etrailer to help me find hardware to attach the carrier to my roof rack. Couldn't be more pleased. Highly recommend etrailer.
The key I bought from etrailer worked. This was for a [competitive retailer] roof top luggage carrier. We had not used it for 6-8 years and had no idea where the key was. The replacement key which came in 3 days by first class US mail. I used the 4 digit code on the lock to order the correct key.

We couldnt find the key for our cartop cargo carrier just days before leaving on vacation. The manufacturer of our cargo carrier did have keys available but the pricing was double per key as well as shipping costs.

Thule tells us that the replacement keys are a tiny fraction of an inch shorter than the originals, so on the Sears 20-SV boxes, its sometimes necessary to seat the key a little deeper in the lock cylinder to get the key to link up correctly with the tumblers. Giving the end of the key a rap with a mallet not a hammer will fully seat the key. You should only need to do this once.
