Looking To Replace A Broken Key For A JetBag Explorer Roof Box

Question:

We received a second hand jet bag explorer and the key was a little bent. We are unable to use it for the carrier and unable to make a duplicate key. Looking to purchase a key that will work. Our locks number is K117. Is there a key that will work for this?

As the JetBag Explorer has been out of production for a while now, it does make replacing this a little more difficult, but not impossible. We will not have a direct replacement for this key number, but I do have a couple other options.

First will be the Replacement Lock Core and Key for SportRack Explorer Cargo Box # SR03807. This will require the removal of your current locks, but we have had people use this in the past. You'll need to make sure your lock core looks like this one to ensure this can work.

The other option will be to see if the core can be removed. I couldn't any references about this being possible or not, so I can't say with 100% certainty that this will work. You will either need to order a Change Key for Thule # 853-1251 or see if a local bike shop has one you could try, but this is used to remove lock cores from Thule parts. Thule did help with the production of the JetBag parts, so it may work. If it does work, you may be able to swap out the core with something like the # THLOCKN160 and # THKEYN160 to go with it, but definitely make sure the core looks like the one you pull out.

If it does not come out, the # SR03807 will be your best option.
