Video Transcript for Reese Trailer Hitch RP3022 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the spacer block. This spacer block is normally used in a situation where you're going to be using a fish wire or a bolt leader, something like this, to bring a bolt through a hole that's in a closed vehicle frame. You want to use the spacer block with the bolt, usually like a carriage bolt like this that would go through the spacer block. You want to hold that into the frame. You'll use the bolt leader or fish wire to attach to the end of this bolt, along with the spacer block, and bring it through the hole in the frame. When you detach the bolt leader, it will leave your bolt sticking out thought the vehicle frame to allow you to hook your trailer hitch to your fifth wheel, your gooseneck, or any other item like that. Just to give you a few dimensions on this spacer block, overall length on it, it's going to be right at three inches.

The width on it is right at one inch. The thickness is right at a quarter inch. That should do it for the review on the spacer block.

A police car pulled into my lane and hit me head on. I escaped without injury but my car was totalled ( photo attached). I salvaged my brand new trailer hitch but the company that put it on would not install it on my new car because there were two bolts and spacers I was unable to recover. Luckily I learned they got the hitch from etrailer. I called and got Rose who was very friendly and helpful and soon had my parts on their way to me. Wish all my purchases were this easy.

by:

Ordered some spacers and when I opened my delivered package there was nothing in the packaging ? Call c/s at etrailer and they got another order on the way. Guess that happens Think it’s my first
Overall great c/s

I purchased a used hitch for my CRV and did not have all the hardware to install it. I called etrailer and received great customer service and was able to get all the hardware that I needed to make the installation a breeze. I would definitely recommend the bolt leaders if you're going to be doing installation yourself it made the job a lot easier on me.

The hole in the block must be in Metric size for a Canadian built vehicle. Otherwise the Receiver is very versatile. First as a receiver, second to hold a winch, third to hold a boat cradle over the roof of the truck.

These are typically used with a bolt leader to bring a bolt through a hole in a closed vehicle frame. This spacer block fits a half inch carriage bolt.

Worked perfectly as I was installing my trailer hitch, which is a simple task but ran into an issue. The bolt holes were pretty corroded on the right side so they needed the threads cleaned, with good ole WD 40 I continued to clean with a tap. After getting 2 done the center one weld nut break off inside the frame, as they have very small tack welds from factory holding them on. So I ordered up this bolt, plate, washer, leader, and a nut to fix the issue, it was simple and an easy fix to a problem at first I wasnt sure how I was going to fix. Fast shipping from etrailer.com and it was done ready to be used in a jiffy. Highly recommend

The parts are doing what they were intended to do and super happy with my purchases. If I am ever in need for future vehicles etc I wouldnt hesitate to buy from you again. Thanks again Ryan thumbs up

This product is a great replacement for the electric heads. No more worying about a dead motor or not electric to bring your awning back in.

by:

Product was fine, I had to take the hitch to my local shop because I couldn't get the last bolt through to complete the installation. My SUV really benefited from being put on a lift by my local shop, they completed the installation.

by:

I haven't used this product yet; however, I am 100% satisfied of the communication with etrailer regarding this product of being on hold to them. I still received it quickly and uneventfully. I order 10 and got 10 even though I just needed 2 because I am sure this item will come in handy with other applications other than reattaching receiver hitches. The carriage bolts required for this product was easily located at the local Tractor Supply.

Thanks etrailer

How easy was the install of my 2008 Ford Escape hitch?

I watched the video and then I installed my hitch two days before I was scheduled for rotary cuff surgery. My right shoulder was more cosmetic than functional for heavy lifting. So, patiently, with jacks at the ready, I installed my hitch. I had to call on my wife once to hold a screw driver, otherwise, I did it solo.

In total, it took less than an hour and I needed one arm, an adjustable wrench, vise grips to hold the lead wire, some floor jacks and a wife (for about 15 seconds after she stopped asking questions.)

I didn't do the electrical, because I'm using it for bike racks only.

Received the spacer blocks today and they are excellent. Good quality and they are very difficult to find. I read several internet forums topics where people spent loads of time and money trying to create these things. This is the cheapest and simplest option i could find on the internet. Also the bolt leaders save a lot of time from trying to devise a solution to pull a bolt through narrow frame rails. With these leaders the bolt hole only needs to be as big as the bolt itself because the leader does not take up any space and holds the bolt very securely.

by:

I applaud etrailer.com after I did not receive my order in a reasonable amount of time, I called etrailer.com and they were very responsive and quickly got my order to me. Great job! This unique product was tough to find anywhere else and it will work great when I install my receiver hitch assembly.

Etrailer,
A new-to-me truck meant a
new hitch installation. Needing the mounting hardware for a hitch that I already own, I tried several local vendors for the needed parts to no avail. After a brief internet search, I easily located the bolts, nuts, washers, and fish wire on your website and placed an order. Then, WOW! The level of attention and communication from your staff regarding my order was incredible. The order and the communication was timely, accurate, and thorough. I am now a loyal customer. Thanks for the great experience! Wish me luck in not busting my knuckles during installation.

-Chris

Thus is a bad news good need review. The package was delivered as told bad news the package was damaged and spacers missing. Good news call to customer service was quickly answered and a re ship was done same day.

I have bought several things from etrailer always as promised with some of the best customer service of any online company I buy from.

Great

Received my package for lost parts for my Curt 13333 hitch for my Ram 1500. I thought shipping was a little exaggerated for 4 small parts, but this was the only places I could find them. Prices for the actual parts were excellent.

The spacers were simple steel with a square hole in them, not a big thing, but difficult to find elsewhere and impossible for a DIYer to make.

Be warned, if you plan on purchasing item 8101-1, the 1/2" bolt leader, they are cut WAY TOO SHORT. Plan on buying 2 and make small hooks on the ends and tape the ends together, that's the only way to use them.

by:

glad to see you can buy parts individually to put on a trailer hitch

very good product to get the job done right

by:

I used this to help with a Jeep XJ trailer hitch install. I pretty much destroyed the install wires due to the way I had to fish the parts through the frame area, but the install was successful.

by:

Thanks etrailer for the parts to install a hitch receiver on my son's 08 Ford Escape Hybrid. I had the receiver but not the hardware backing plates. these fit perfectly. reasonable prices and quick shipping.

by:

This carriage bolt block was impossible to find locally. Couple this with the bolt leader wire and the how to video on this website and I had zero issues. I was actually amazed at how quickly I was able to fish the bolt/spacer combo into the frame of my car to fix the broken weld but issue. Now all I need is the bolt up the hitch. Thanks etrailer!

by:

Can't get this part (carraige bolt spacer with square hole) anywhere except etrailer.com, unless you buy a new hitch.
Went to uhaul, home depot, lowes, fatenel and other fastener places, ebay and amazon all with negative results, thank God for etrailer.com!!!
Thanks

by:

My overall experience was excellent with this company. They have instructional videos available that made all the difference in the world when it came to installing my hitch after breaking two of the welded frame nuts removing rusted bolts that had to come out. I'm not sure I would have figured out without the videos. The hitch is on and I am ready to roll!

by:

I looked everywhere locally for this part - including 3 hitch installation shops. Nobody would sell it to me. The manufacturer's website would ALSO not sell it. Then I saw an ad for etrailer and gave it a look. They had the part and I received it in 3 days. Saved me $100 by being able to install the hitch myself. etrailer ROCKS

by:

This piece of hardware worked perfect as a replacement. I bought a curt hitch for my Pontiac G6 and acccidently pushed this spacer block back into the frame.

My Odyssey had
a missing weld nut, etrailer and their team had the answer. From the parts to the helpful video's - kudo's to etrailer and their great support!

I was able to install my receiver and wiring harness - thank you!

by:

I can't find these anywhere other than here. I wish I would have added a few to my original order in anticipation that I was going to break a weld nut during the install process. Would have saved time and shipping cost! But, once I had it in hand, it worked great for my hitch install.

by:

Short in hitch package purchased elsewhere, needed 2 of these and 4 reinforcements.
Looked for two weeks on the internet before finding on etrailer.com. delivered quickly, Now can finish hitch install.

  • Bolt for Hitch Will Not Torque Down
If a bolt will not torque down while installing a trailer hitch this means the bolt was likely cross threaded. There are a few options to fix this, the first would be drill out and then re-tap the hole with the next largest thread size using a kit like the Tap Wrench Kit for Standard Pipe Sizes part # PT22FR. The weld nut however could break when tightening down the new bolt so in which case the final option would be to drill the rest of the weld nut out and then using a spacer block like...

  • What is the Trailer Hitch Spacer Block Made From
The Trailer Hitch Spacer Block - 3" Long x 1" Wide x 1/4" Thick # RP3022 is made of carbon steel, so it will be susceptible to corrosion. You could put a coating of some sort of Plasti-dip type substance on this before installation to help protect against that, but I don't believe it's completely necessary because of the typical use of this part will shield it from most direct exposure to moisture.

  • How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2005 Honda Pilot with 2 Broken Weldnuts in the Frame
When using replacement hardware kit # RHK you would get the same hardware that originally came with the kit (some specialty pieces may not be included). Since you have broken weldnuts the only thing you can do is use a block and carriage bolt, drop them down through the frame using the fishwire technique and then use a nut to secure the hitch to that bolt. This is assuming you do not want to go through the trouble or expense of having new weldnuts professionally installed in the frame.

  • Need Spacer Block to Install Used Trailer Hitch on 2008 Ford Edge
We don't have the exact spacer block that would've been included with the # C13067 hitch but the # RP3022 comes very close. The block is a little narrower, and the hole is centered rather than being on one end. This means that the block may try to spin once the bolt is being tightened. If this happens, use an impact wrench. The impact wrench will spin fast enough to prevent the block from spinning. It might take a minute or so, but the bolt will tighten. You'd also need a few bolt leaders,...

We do not have a specific kit for attaching our etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98851 to your 2007 Honda Pilot with broken weld nuts. • Weldnut Broken Inside Frame When Installing Trailer Hitch - What Do I Do?
I am sorry to hear that, Aaron. It sounds like the weldnut inside the frame has broken loose which honestly really sucks. This does happen on rare occasions and unfortunately the hitch cannot be used in this state. The bolt will need to be removed. This is best done with a grinder, or torch.
