Availability of Foam Block Kayak Carrier Compatible with Square Profile Crossbars
Question:
This product has a groove manufactured in the bottom of the foam to place onto a square show-floor storage bar....Im looking for a similar foam block to slide onto a 1.5inch square tube. Most other foam blocks have an ellipse shaped hole manufactured into the foam for todays aerodynamic rack bars. Im making my own kayak trailer from Tel-Spar tubing and I need the foam blocks to accommodate the 1.5inch square tube. Any ideas?

Although there are still a few square profile crossbars available, many are getting away from them slowly because the aero-style are much quieter. A block system like the Malone # MPG162 is compatible with both square and aero-profile bars. Once the kayaks are strapped down to the roof rack and at the bow and stern, it doesn't really matter what profile the blocks are compatible with, because the force of the straps holding the kayaks in place will prevent the blocks from moving. I found this out myself a few years ago when I used a foam block system to transport a kayak for a friend of mine when we were going on a canoe trip. In a 4 hour drive that kayak didn't budge, and most of that trip was at highway speeds.
Kayak straps like # MPG307-12 and bow/stern tie downs like # MPG306 are recommended, as is an anchor kit like # MPG308
