Is there a Wider Roof Rack Crossbar Spread for a 2017 Subaru Outback

Question:

Hi, There are three sets of fixed crossbar locations on the 2017 Subaru Outback. Is it true that the Yakima Landing Pads and Skyline Towers can only be place in the two most forward crossbar positions? Which is just 29.5inch apart! We have an item we need to secure on our roof that measures 55inch x 78. A 24inch overhang on both the front and back seem excessive. Any suggestions? Please advise.

I checked with Yakima and when using the SkyLine towers # Y53TR the bar spread can be as much as 30-1/2 inches on center. In addition to the towers you will also need Landing Pad 15, # Y00241, and bars # Y00425.

The length of your item at 78 inches is not going to be a problem provided that you have it properly secured to the vehicle. There are cargo boxes listed as a fit with this roof rack installed that are even longer than 78 inches.

I don't know what it is you want to carry but I do recommend tying it down at the front and rear using tie downs such as # TH855XT and Hood Loops # MPG308. If you can tell me what it is you are carrying there may be better tie down options.
