Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we are looking at the Rhino Rack vehicle strap anchors for your bow and stern tie-down points here at etrailer. Now I have to carry a lot of kayaks on different vehicles here at etrailer and my biggest issue is always trying to find a good spot for the bow and stern straps, especially here in the front. You have to look underneath the hood for the best placement, something that's not gonna interfere with your engine, but also will be strong and sturdy to keep your kayak anchored. That's what makes these super useful. These are permanent mounting anchor straps, and they'll be there anytime you need them for when you wanna carry your kayak around.

The important thing is that it's sturdy enough to tie down your kayak or your boats. So taking a look inside the strap, you have this durable black polyester webbing, so that's strong and sturdy. On the outside you have this bright blue Rhino Rack logo, and this is secured with metal grommets, as well as a metal washer inside your hood. Now these are permanently mounted, but that install process is actually really simple, you just need to find the right bolt. So let's take a look at what I did.

So what you're gonna do first is you're gonna pop open your hood and look inside for a really good mounting point. Now, ideally you should stay away from plastic and try to find something that's a little more durable, a little more sturdy, ideally metal to metal. The bolt I chose is the headlight bracket. And I'm gonna use this socket, it's size 11. Now this does depend on your vehicle.

So we'll just loosen that up. Once you have the screw out you're then gonna put the strap, and then include the washer and then put the screw back on. What I like to do, just put them all on the screw, right ahead of time, and then tighten that down. Now my recommendation is that you have your strap in the position you want it in as you tighten down, because if you get super tightened down, you can't adjust the strap anymore. So right here, I think it's perfect where it will be sticking out of the hood, ready to go.

Now this is to be used with non flexible straps, kinda like what I have here. And then you just use it to attach your bow and stern straps, kinda like that. And then this will secure your kayak. Now you have some options with tying down your bow and stern on your kayak. One option is if you have two kayaks, you can use one anchor point each. Another option is if you want a little extra stability, you can use both of those anchor points and have two of them connected to a single kayak for that extra security. Now you may be wondering why the instructions are only for the bow tie-down and not the stern. And that's because you can either use your hitch or there's other tie-down points inside the vehicle. Over here in the front this is usually more difficult to access without interfering with any of your engine parts or underneath your hood. So that's why these are pretty useful for the front. And when not in use, you just fold this strap back in as you lower the hood. And then that's it for the install. My final thoughts about these hood anchors is I do like how they are permanently mounted underneath my hood. If you're carrying around a bunch of kayaks or boats or canoes often, and it's a big thing for you, then I do recommend picking one of these up because that way they cut down on that install time.
