Well the product itself appeared very useful. Everything is included to make it work and all you really need is a set of crimpers. However, when I installed the thermostat into my radiator it never got hot enough to make the fans turn on. I'm not exactly sure why this is but nonetheless this made the product unusable for me. So I kept the wiring and ordered a thermostat that installed into my engine block. Not a bad product, just didn't work for my application.

  • Thermostat Recommendations for an Electric Fan
For an electric fan you would need to use a different thermostat control like # D15721 for an in-line or # D16720 for a thread-in style. The thread in style is recommended for fans that draw more than 10 amps. Each of these thermostats is rated higher than the 8 amps your fan is drawing. The thermostats will start the fan if the temperature gets above 180 degrees. No switch or additional harnesses (other than regular wire appropriate for this application) are needed.

The Derale Series 8000 Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler Kit, item # D13503, will provide extra cooling to help keep your transmission at normal temperatures when towing. Whether or not any cooler will provide enough cooling depends on many factors specifically related to your vehicle and trailer setup.
