Video Transcript for Curt PowerRide 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Wear Plates Review

Hey everybody. How's it going Today, we're going to show you how to install the replacement wear plates for the CURT PowerRide, 5th wheel trailer hitch. So, the wear plates that come with your PowerRide 5th wheel hitch, these are going to need replaced with extended and frequent use. Now they're great. I really liked them because you don't have to worry about keeping track of an actual lube plate that moving around on you, And you also don't have to worry about messy grease. There is one drawback is that you do have to replace them from time to time.

This isn't something you're going to be doing frequently, however, but if you use your 5th wheel hitch a lot and how hard you use it, you will need to replace these in time. However, it's pretty cost-effective, they're certainly not expensive, and it's very easy to do. We can walk you through this entire process step by step, now. So, to start off for installation here, we need to go ahead and open up the jaws on the 5th wheel hitch. So, we're going to remove the pin here for the handle, and then we're going to pull out and swing open our jaws, just like so.

Now the next thing we're going to do is we're going to be removing the head assembly from the center section. In order to do that, we're going to grab a hold of this handle on the front here. Then we're going to have a pin and clip on the back and pull that out. This is what it looks like, nad then we can just pull our handle straight out as well. Now with our pivot pins removed, we can lift the head assembly up from the center section and set it on our work bench, and now what we're going to take a Phillips head screwdriver.

We're going to have seven total screws securing the skid plate here to the 5th wheel hitch head. So, you can see them along the outer perimeter. We have two that are kind of hidden. One down in here and then one over here. So let's take our Phillips head screwdriver now and begin removing each of these seven screws.

Now, since the screws are rather tiny, and we have some hard to reach places. If you have a magnet nearby, that's going to help us pull these out. So, now it will just simply tilt up the head assembly here. We should just be able to pry the plate off like that. We'll simply take our new plate here and install it onto the hitch head like that, and then we'll just carefully lay it back down on the table, Just like so. So, next we're going to take our new hardware that comes in your kit, the same Phillips head screws as before we're going to apply a flat lock washer, And then we'll simply just be using these to re-secure the plate to the hitch head. Now you need to be careful when you're tightening these down because you can easily over torque them and strip them out. So there is actually a recommended torch recommended torque spec for this. So you can get a torque wrench that reads an inch pounds in order to complete this, Or if you're careful, you can use just a standard screwdriver just to get them about finger tight and maybe another 1/8 inch of a turn or so. So that's going to be plenty tight for this application. But we've got one in here. We'll go ahead and repeat that same process for our other six screws. So now we've got one side replaced here. We'll just simply repeat those same few steps on the other side to get it replaced as well. And now that we have both wear plates replaced, we can re-install our 5th wheel hitch head and secure it in the same way we removed it. That's going to do it today for our look and installation of the replacement wear plates for the CURT PowerRide, 5th wheel trailer hitch..

Wonderful hitch. I don't have anything negative to say about it. I purchased the 30k Curt fifth wheel hitch mostly because of the inserted lube / wear plates. I don't have to worry about greases or the plastic disk. I don't have the chucking people complain about, and I feel my load is secure going down the road.
