Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this replacement spring bar for your Curt MV Weight Distribution System. This is going to replace one round spring bar for your MV weight distribution system. This is going to come in different weight capacities, so you wanna make sure you're getting the right one, you can see list of our part numbers there on the screen for the different weight capacities for the different spring bars. They are all very similar, but they just have slightly different thicknesses that give them that weight capacity, but they are interchangeable, so if you're just needing to replace your spring bar, you can get the same weight capacity, or if you have got a different trailer or your setup has changed and you just need to change the weight capacity, you can switch out the bars to a higher weight capacity or a lower weight capacity, they're all going to work with your MV weight distribution system. These are Curt bars, so you're not gonna have to worry about compatibility issues or anything like that, so they are gonna get put into your head unit the exact same way, and then you've got the pre-attached chain fastener and chain here, so that you can get those mounted onto your trailer exactly like your original system, so very easy to get this switched out, whether you're needing to replace that exact same weight capacity or if you're switching out your weight capacity.
These are gonna be steel construction, so they are very durable, they got the black powder coat on them that resist rust, so they're gonna hold up well for you, and it's a really nice option rather than having to get a whole new weight distribution system, if you get a new trailer, you can just switch out these spring bars, and that'll allow you to. Replacing stiffer 1000 lb bars. These 800 lb bars show heavy, rough forging marks unlike original bars. Also thickness only begins to taper halfway down length and then thins rapidly. As a result these bars bow heavily over the last half of their length near the chain under only moderate load. I am concerned about trying to fully load them to deal with verified 640 lb tongue weight. At 6 links under tension still 160 lbs light on steer axle vs no hitch. The original 1000 lb bar from Curt have a gradual taper over pretty much the entire bar length (and have no forging marks).

Update: went to 5 links under tension but had to adjust tilt of hitch ball also. 29 ft travel trailer now tows much better. Also rebalanced load from rear compartments to front and empty hot water rear tank before towing. The old 1000 lb bars were too stiff and leveraging the rear of my Escalade over every bump. I do use one friction sway control which I found a must have for a 29 foot travel trailer which has springs mounted on top of axles. My prior rig was 23 ft and under mounted springs and towed like a dream. Don’t underestimate the wind force at 65mph if your trailer gets out at an angle to the direction of travel.

New 800 pound bars replaced my 1,400 pound bars for a lighter trailer. Ride is much better. Glad I didn’t have to buy a complete new WD system. E Trailer tech support helped me find the right bars and order was shipped very fast.

After a year I realize what a difference having the correct size bars make. Ride is better and I found my trailer tire wear is reduced.

This bar worked with my existing Curt weight distribution hitch. I replaced the 1000# bars with the 800s when I traded campers. Works great.
