Can 800 lb Spring Bars be Used With 1,000 lb Curt MV Weight Distribution
Question:
I have an existing Curt weight distribution hitch part number 17052 with 10,000 LBS rating. I traded campers and now have a 2022 Forest River Surveyor Legend with an unloaded tongue weight of 500 LBS and a unloaded GVR of 5000 LBS. Will i need to down size my spring bars to a lighter weight bar? The camper has a high cargo capacity of around 3000 LBS but i will probably never have that much weight in it but want to make sure I have the right set up. If a replacement bar is needed do you have ones that will work with my existing hitch head. Thanks

So long as the total tongue weight of your fully loaded 2022 Forest River Surveyor is between 600 lbs and 800 lbs, you can use the lower rated spring bars with the hitch head of your Curt MV Weight Distribution System - Round Bar - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # C17052. The MV systems all use the same hitch head, which is why different rated spring bars are compatible.
Having said that, without knowing your loaded tongue weight, it's impossible for me to know specifically if new bars are going to be required. If your loaded tongue weight remains between 800 lbs and 1,000 lbs you will NOT need new spring bars. But you WILL need them if the loaded tongue weight on your new trailer is between 600 lbs and 800 lbs. The correct replacement bar is the following:
- Replacement Spring Bar for Curt MV Weight Distribution System - 800 lbs TW # C17072
