Can Bars Be Upgraded on Curt MV Weight Distribution to Work With Larger Trailer

Question:

Hello, Last year I bought the C17050 to use with my pop-up trailer, with tongue and cargo loaded to around 500lbs. I am upgrading my trailer to a dry 500 tongue weight, fully loaded 700lb tongue weight Keystone Outback 210TRS, With cargo behind the rear axle probably putting it at or around 800lbs max. Would I be able to purchase these to upgrade/increase the capabilities of my WDH that I already have and meet the need of my new trailer? Thank you!

Great question!

Your current Curt MV Weight Distribution System # C17050 (rated for up to 600 lbs TW) and the upgraded Curt MV # C17051 (rated for up to 800 lbs TW) use all of the same parts so you can definitely upgrade the weight rating by simply swapping out the bars to the larger part # C17072 - just be sure to pick 2 of these up.

With that being said, these bars are rated for a max of 800 lbs TW so if that's what you're anticipating your total tongue weight to be then I recommend jumping up to sizes to the bar # C17073 which is designed for total tongue weights of 800 lbs - 1,000 lbs. This means you'll be at the low end of the spectrum and you can add some more weight in the back of your tow vehicle if needed instead of having the weight distribution maxed out and your hands being tied on what you can and can't bring.
