Zack: Hey guys, Zack here at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be taking a look at a winch replacement strap from BoatBuckle. This is going to be a really nice way to take care of that old worn out winch strap that you have. We did it on a Fulton winch here today, but this is going to be not a universal size, but this is going to be two inches wide. That's pretty standard when it comes to boat witches, especially with this size boat that we have here today. This is going to be a working load limit of 1,333 pounds.

So this is going to be a good size, it fits this boat perfectly. If you have something smaller than that, it's still okay to put this on there. Now, when it comes to the style of strap that we have here, it's pretty close to what we had in place on this winch that was factory. It's really smooth so I think it's going to do a good job of not having any friction, real smooth operation. And then when we take some of that tension off, we can get a closer look at the hook here for our bow eye. And that's a pretty standard hook as well, it operates real smoothly, it's galvanized, so it's got a good finish on it, it's going to prevent rust and corrosion.

And then the stitching that holds that in place to our strap, it's been double backed on itself. It's good quality stitching there, so I think this is going to hold up for a while. And then when we put that in place, you can just see everything just operates real smoothly to give us a nice secure point of contact there. Now this is the 15 foot length that works great for this boat. If you need something that's longer, the same strap comes in a 20 foot length as well. And when it comes to that working load limit of 1,333 pounds, keep in mind that this boat weighs more than that, but that's not a dry weight that we're doing with this.

So this isn't intended to pull the boat on a trailer when it's not in the water. And it's not the only strap that's keeping the boat in place when we're going down the road. So you want to make sure that you have all the proper straps in place, when we do that you want to use this properly whenever you're at the ramp to get your boat out of the water, and this is going to work out great for this size boat. Now we have the tail end style here. We also have a similar strap, it's almost identical, but it has a loop in at the end of it.

And that just is held in place on the winch with a little pin.I like that style a little bit better, but once you put it in place you can't tell a difference, it's just how it's held in place on the winch. That style will also work with this one here today. But overall, I think this is a good quality strap, it's pretty close to the one we took off of this. This Fulton winch is really nice. That strap was fine, we just wanted to give you guys an idea of how easy this is to install. So let's just walk you through that process. Before we put the new strap on, we need to take the old one off. So I'm going to get this one extended out all the way. Now this has an enclosed housing, but it's going to work just about the same way.I took the top off here so we can access this. What we're going to do is we're going to reach down in there and we're going to grab this piece. Now you may have to push it from the other side depending on how tight it is. And what we're going to do is get this out. And this style has a pin in there. Some of them will have a bolt with a nut where it passes through, but this one in particular just has this pin, so we can set that aside for now. And then we just pull that through. It's tight from that double back stitching, but we can get that pulled through all the way.To get this in place, I'm going to take this tail end, and I'm going to feed it through the backside of my winch, and I'm going to let a little bit out, so it's laying on the ground. So we'll feed it through here from the backside, and I'm going to wrap it back around and feed it back through itself again. So it get some of that slack taken out, and then we can start bringing the strap, get that snap up put and place on our bow eye inaudible 00:04:36 and tightened down. And then we can just put that lid back on our winch here, and we've got our straps replaced. You can see not too difficult of an installation to swap those out, get a nice new strap in place. But that's going to do it for our look at the BoatBuckle winch strap replacement..

Re: Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch w/ Automatic Brake
This is the second Dutton Brake Winch I have purchased. Great quality and made in the USA. The brake function is well worth the cost. Mine are used to lift items in my garage onto a rolling work surface and and one for loading items into my pickup.
