Good product, great customer service

by:

I used this door latch on my homemade trailer because it looked just like the one on my CJ5. I figured out the reason it looks so much like my Jeep handle is because it IS the same at less than half the price even with a lock. Excelent quality product, excelent customer service, excelent overall experience. I proudly display an etrailer sticker on my little trailer.

by:

Fit my 93’ horse trailer perfectly! Shipped faster than expected and the support from George J when ordering was amazing. He let me know it wasn’t in stock, offered to ship a different one, but shipped the original one in a quick and efficient time.

by:

Perfect. Identical to the current broken latch.

by:

Product was as described. This is a quality product. It is the second time I ordered it. The first one has been on my trailer for 3 years with no problem and still looks great! Thanks to E-Trailer for the great product selection, fast shipping and excellent customer support.

by:

My order fit perfect on my trailer door!!! I completely recommend this product .... Measurements were perfect ... And shipping was fast...

by:

They were out of the part I needed at the time I ordered it, but kept in informed and the part arrived earlier than I expected. Great customer service. I know where to go for any more parts I may need. Thanks Carol!!

by:

Order was exactly what was pictured and we received it in a very timely manner.

by:

Stainless steel with the inside ball handle. Very durable. Same size as my existing ones that don't have outside key lock. Others sell same yet without the ball handle inside attached. Thanks etrailer and George J. for good business.

Thanks for following up on your products via the buyers input. These door handles are still as good as new after a year of installing. Sure they would be good to go 50 years from now.

by:

It’s the right latch, its movement is rough. I guess it’s shipped with no lubricantion.

by:

Worked perfect. Good quality

by:

Latch was as advertised and very nice.

by:

Product is exactly what I needed and ordered. High quality for a great price. Customer service went above and beyond by following up to make sure I received my product and that I was satisfied. I would recommend etrailer.com to all and they will be my preferred vendor in the future.

Still working as required.

by:

Product was delivered on time and in good shape. Fit and finish of latches is outstanding. Even better than I imagined. Exactly what I was looking for.

by:

I purchased this because I did not have a key to the original one that was on the trailer. Besides, the condition of the old one was getting to the point of replacement anyhow. It was a simple swap out with new replacing old. I Tac welded it on at the four mounting hardware locations and called it good :-). Works great and can't beat stainless.

by:

Love this latch! The one On my trailer door has broken and this was the perfect replacement.

The latch is still working perfect and I use it multiple times a day!

by:

Purchased a trailer with defective internal latch so I order this latch as a replacement. Fit easily in the old opening, rapidly installed and off the road we went. Much easier to deal with when it is just a simple replacement. quality product.

by:

i was very happy with you products i havent got the step on yet but the roof vent went on very eazy and i had to make the door latch fit some custom work but im use to it thank you again

by:

I have been dealing with a broken door latch for a year!! My search is over for one stop shopping for supplies/parts like this. This is an excellent site and the latched that I received is precisely what I needed. THANK YOU!!!

by:

My trailer's new locking door handles are just as I ordered. I plan to install them asap.

by:

Cheaply made and the handle on mine is very loose. It locks installs easily. With the very loose handle and it doesn't open until the handle is pulled very far back it was slightly disappointing.

by:

I tried to get this door latch part directly from CM Trailers, they blew me off completely. But I found it on this site, good description and gave the dementions, made it easy to buy the right thing the first time! Great buying experience!

by:

"Junior" name implies smaller product, which it is not.
Latch spring is very strong, making it difficult to close door without opening latch first.
Functions excellent and is shiny and new!

I like the fact that etrailer put the absolute measurements online and so that customers give distinguish between all the different locks that are available.

  • Replacement Tack Room Door Latch for Horse Trailer
We have a few options for door latches that might be good replacements for yours. There is the Bauer Products Manger Door Lock for Horse Trailers # BA95FR. This is designed for a vertical oriented door latch. We also have a horizontal opening style. That would be more like the "Junior" Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch with Inside Release # L1833. If neither of these are the style that you have, feel free to send me a picture so that I can find a fit for your trailer.

  • Can The Redline Door Latch, # L1883, Be Keyed Alike
I called the supplier (Redline) and they said that all of the Redline Door Latch, # L1883, use the same key. Each latch will come with 2 keys. I also pulled 3 of them from the warehouse to verify that and they were all keyed the same. I also have the Redline Door Latch with Inside Release, # L1833, which is the same latch but with a knob installed on the interior side of the latch to provide an inside release.

The Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch, Part # L1833 does not come with a gasket or a striker plate. This is a flush mount latch and will fit in doors up to 7/8 inches thick. I have attached a photo of the latch with the dimensions. I have also attached a link to our product page for the door latches we offer.

  • Locking Flush Trailer Door Lock Recommendation for a 1 inch Thick Door on a Cargo Trailer
I have a solution for you, but the "Junior" Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch with Inside Release # L1833 that you referenced can only fit doors up to 7/8 of an inch in thickness. For your 1 inch thick door you would want the Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch # L3980 instead as this handle works on doors up to 1-1/6 inches thick. I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also.

  • Keyed Alike Paddle Handles Door Latches for Trailer Constructed From Truck Service Body
If you purchase multiples of Redline latches like part # L1833 will be keyed alike, according to our distributor. The # L1833 latch would mount in a 2-3/4 by 3-3/4 inch hole. We don't offer any wheels or hubs compatible with a 6 on 135mm bolt pattern, so you'd likely need to find salvaged rear hubs and spindles compatible with that bolt pattern and have an axle fabricated.

  • How to Mount Junior Door Latch # L1930
Typically, the Junior Door Latch would install by routing or cutting out a 2-3/4 by 3-3/4 inch hole and would then either be bolted or riveted to the door through holes that would need to be drilled in the flange around the latch. The latch is meant to be used in doors up to 3/4 inch thick. Because the latch is a universal fit item with many different mounting possibilities, the mounting holes are not pre drilled and mounting hardware is not included. • Locking Door Latch with Inside Release for a 1 Inch Thick Trailer Door
I went out to the warehouse to measure the Junior Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch with Inside Release, # L1833. Your trailer door would have to be no larger than 7/8 inches thick for the latch to fit. Instead, you could use latch # L3980. According to the manufacturer, this latch will fit a 1 inch thick door.

  • Replacing a Loose Door Latch
If you cannot get access to the nut, the only real way to get access to the needed nut will be to disassemble most of the # L1833. This would require the removal of the pin that holds the handle that the lock is secured to. With that being said, it may be better to just replace the whole mechanism.

  • Can Trailer Door Latch # L1883 be Opened from Both Sides
The Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch, # L1883, has a threaded hole on the inside part in which you could insert your own knob so that it can be easily opened from inside. Another option is basically the same door latch that comes with the knob already in place. It is # L1833.

  • Replacement Locking Door Latch for Tack Room Door on 1997 Circle J Horse Trailer
I was able to find photos of many styles of older Circle J horse trailers and most do seem to use a flush door lock like # L1833 which fits into a 2-3/4 x 3-3/4-inch hole in a door up to 7/8-inches thick. The lock you referenced, part # L3980, fits a larger 3-3/8 x 4-5/8-inch opening in a door up to 1-1/16-inches thick. All such locks we offer are shown on the linked page. Just measure your door thickness and the dimensions of the lock opening to find the best replacement.

  • Trailer Door Latch Recommendation for a Trailer Door that is 1-1/2 Inches Thick
You would want to use a Full Size Locking Steel Flush Door Latch # L3980 on your door that is 1-1/2 inches thick. This latch can work on doors that are up to 1-1/16 inches thick and should work well for you. The Locking Stainless Steel Flush Door Latch # L1833 that you referenced can only work on doors that are up to 7/8 of an inch thick and would not work for you.

It depends on how the old one is attached to the door but you will likely have to pry it off. If there are no visible fasteners there wouldn't be any other way.
