Bought for my 2020 XC 40. I’ve taking it on several long distance hauls and it’s frees up a lot of space inside the car. I love that you can open the trunk and get items while having the carrier on. The car handles very well with is on. However I would suggest you buy a hitch stabilizer to stop rattling it make the car a carrier act as one. It folds up when not in use so nothing sticking out when not in use.

by:

It was very hard to figure out what kind of cargo carrier would be the best for my needs, until I got on your website. Your videos are very informative to help with making the decision of which cargo carrier was best.
It was very easy to put together, and very strong (I put my husband in it)this is perfect for our vacation transportation.

THE BEST PRODUCT I EVER BOUGHT FOR HAULING. WE USED THIS FOR VACATION, WOOD, TRAVEL TO OUR SUMMER HOME.. ITS GREAT

by:

This carrier was super easy to assemble. It is a bit heavy but I was able to mount it onto my hitch alone. I’m using an anti-rattle lock and they work great together.

No issues after a year of use. We used it maybe four times last summer for our trips to the lake. Haven’t noticed any rattling or loosening of boltswelds.

by:

Easy assembly. .10 min...great quality. .love the folding feature...I bought this for my hunting jeep so I have a spot available to load game but not be forced to have a carrier hanging out at all times...as long as the 500lb rating holds up I couldn't be happier ..I won't need near that but the 300 lb carriers seemed a little lite

Installation: Easy
Assembly: Easy
Attached
to: Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" Item # C13163
Use: Camping equipment. Cooler, Chairs, Sleeping bags, firewood, etc.
Like: The fact that it folds is a huge positive.
What I would change: perhaps adding a ring or two on the sides to allow for bungee cords or rope.
Because the hitch is already a bit low on the 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander (stock wheels, tires, suspension) the back part of the basket can bottom out rather easily. It has nothing to do with the carrier itself though.

I would definitely recommend this product! I'm going to use it again in a month for our next camping trip.

by:

Lost my truck recently and needed a way to take in recycling without stinking-up the SUV. Cargo carrier assembled easy and worked great on the first trash run. Flipped-up perfectly for the follow-on shopping trip.

After a year this is still a great product!!

by:

This is perfect! Our Mazda cx5 didn't have a ton of ground clearance after installing the hitch. This cargo carrier with the hitch riser is perfect to solve that problem. My only complaint is I stepped between the metal supports and the meshvonnthe bottom came loose/bent. Still holds up just find though. Ice had this thing fully loaded, too! Definitely recommend a anti-rattle or stabilizer kit to help stabilize it and lift it up.

The Curt C18151 cargo carrier isnt designed to be stood upon.

Ryan

9/8/2023

Love the cargo carrier for our hitch. However, I wish there were horizontal supports under the metalmesh on the bottom. If anything relatively heavy isn’t on one of the supports, the mesh bends or pops out of place. It looks like it may have been painted after the mesh was in place because the outer edges are starting to rust already. My only complaints. We’ve loaded this thing up high and wide and it works great!

@Ryan We're glad your cargo carrier is working okay for you.

by:

This cargo carrier is easy to assemble, install, and fold up. The rail is nice for attaching ratchet straps to keep everything in place. It's sadly not wide enough to fit typical lawn chairs, so you'd have to put them sideways and laying on top of the rail. It seems to tilt in one direction. I'm not sure if it bent due to the load I put on it, or if that's the way it came together. It also wobbles a little bit due to (in my opinion) lax manufacturing tolerances. Overall, it does its job well.

If you do not already have one I recommend using part # 63232 which will give you a lock and anti rattle device in one.

by:

The cargo carrier is very well built and the powder coating make the carrier look real nice , very easy to assemble. Got it just in time for my 500 mile road trip.

Still looks great after a year. Would still recommend to anyone looking for a cargo carrier.

by:

Pros:
- 6 hour trip two ways and no
major issues.
- Fits well on Jeep Grand Cherokee

Cons:
- Multiple build issues. The first issue was there was slag inside of the bar that the other side was supposed to fit into, which made it impossible to put together. I had to buy a metal file small enough to fit in there and file away for 15 minutes to get it to fit.
- One of the upright flat panels that you bolt the other panel to to connect the sides was missing 95% of its weld, there was just a dot instead of a weld all the way across it.
- After the whole thing was put together there were gaps in the cross bars where they should have been flush. No matter how I tweaked the bolt tightening they wouldn’t go straight together.

I would have returned it but I was leaving on my trip the day after I got it so I had to make it work. And the box was destroyed. Spend the money to get a higher quality carrier.

by:

I received my cargo carrier and had it assembled in about an hour.
It fits perfectly, helps protect the spare from theft. I can access the 110 ac cord as well
as the water heater.

Great product, great customer service and great shipment.
Now I can take a generator and other extras to Yellowstone NationPark in October.

Great additional storage/ transportoption option without having a pickup. Rack has great quality as well as strength. It works great for safely transporting fuel in my compact vechicle

by:

Easy to assemble and use. etrailer is the best.

by:

Easy to assemble. Welds questionable. Paint quality poor. The flip hinge has play hopefully not noisy when loaded. Time will tell

by:

Very sturdy. You don't realize it's there when driving. Enough clearance from twin tip exhaust to avoid melting of cargo out the back. Folding function is great. This product has made road trips much easier.

by:

This cargo carrier was excellent for a cross-country roadtrip we took last summer and we've used it many times since! We use it with our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

by:

The 20x59 inch Curt cargo carrier works well for my Dodge minivan. The price was very reasonable and construction seems durable and heavy. Assembly was not difficult. It can be installed on the van by one person, but definitely easier with two. I got the 2inch hitch version. I can fit two 35 gallon trash cans in it, plus a smaller can, with room to fit misc trash. I can also fit two 22 inch walk behind mowers on it, with gas and string trimmer. I can fit about 5 buckets of sand in the winter, 5 gal each, chainsaws, tools, gas, oil, anything you wouldn’t want inside the vehicle. I’ve had this for about a year and it continues to be a very helpful accessory.

would a scooter fit on this? it weighs about 200lbs and is 26 inches wide x 67 inches long.

Patrick B.

4/25/2014

You may be able to fit the scooter on the carrier. It will depend on how far down the floor board is on the scooter. The inside dimensions of the carrier are 20 inch by 60 inch. If 67 inches is your wheel base, then it's not going to fit. The side rails measure 6 inches tall so they may be tall enough to make contact with the body of the scooter before the wheels and weight are resting on the carrier. A motorcycle carrier may be a better fit, and I have linked to those below.

by:

It’s been one year since I bought this, but still no issue. Great product!

by: 04/13/2022

Easy installation and solid build! We assembled the cargo carrier and installed the hitch very easily! Took it on a trip and it did great, we love it. Thanks so much etrailer!

by:

Arrived very well packaged, not a scratch or dent.
I suggest downloading the instructions from the etrailer product page, the included instruction sheet is not very informative.
I also drilled an extra hole in the shank so that I could move the basket close to the back of the truck when carrying a load. I just do not like the basket out that far when driving around. My older basket had the extra hole.

by:

Rack performance is excellent…geometry of the bottom edge relative to the low height of the hitch relative to the road surface requires thinking ahead when there’s significant difference in road surface pitch (for example backing into a steep driveway from a horizontal pavement would result in the carrier dragging for a short distance)

by:

Very good fit and finish. Performed as described.

by:

Easy to assemble. Don't forget a receiver hitch pin.

Michael

3/17/2023

Still have to bang the pin in with a 5# maul. Holes never loosened up.

by:

Worked like a charm. I was skeptical about using this, as I’d never seen one before. On the trip to Florida, I did see multiple other vehicles with racks.

  • Recommended 2-Inch Hitch and Hitch Cargo Carrier for 2019 Kia Sorento
The hitch I recommend for your 2019 Kia Sorento is the 2-inch model # E98843 which I prefer over the Draw-Tite # 75908 because of its higher weight capacity and because it is USA-made. This model also has a nicer matte black powder coat finish that is more discrete in appearance than the glossy finish on the Draw-Tite. All required mounting hardware comes with the hitch and you can see it installed on a Sorento in the photo I linked for you. I also linked the written instructions, a complete...

For your 2018 Forester we do have both 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches from several makers. We always recommend the larger and higher weight capacity Class III hitch when the option exists because this size offers broader compatibility with hitch accessories and does not cost much more than the Class II models. Installation on your Forester will be pretty much identical regardless of hitch class or brand so you might as well get the most for your money. The hitch I recommend...

I have a solution for you but it's not a folding carrier unfortunately. You can use Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18151 on the back of an RV. You will want to avoid models that fold up because folding models have additional points of movements that could possibly fail due to the increased stress associated with being at the back of an RV.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Kia Sorento for Cargo Carrier Use
The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2016 Kia Sorento to use with a cargo carrier is the Draw Tite part # 75908 because it has plenty of tongue weight capacity for your cargo carrier at 500 lbs tongue weight and also does not require the use of a stabilizer strap when carrying a non-supported load like a bike rack like what the Curt hitch for your vehicle requires. If your 1993 Chevy K3500 4x4 has a tow rating of 10,000 pounds, there is no way to safely tow 12,000 pounds unless some of the weight is alleviated from the hitch. For example, you can try to alleviate some unneeded weight from the trailer itself. Another way to eliminate some weight is to use a front-hitch and a cargo carrier like the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch Receiver - 2" # 31042 along with the 20x59 Curt Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # C18151.
