Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

Unfortunately these only lasted 2 years and less than 8,000 miles before the belts "slipped" and the tires ballooned and got tall and round. I pull a 10k GVWR two-axle toy hauler weighed at 7800 lbs on the axles. These survived two 2600 mile trips and a few shorter trips at up to 65 mph. 3 of 4 tires ballooned and I replaced them before they blew. I filed a Kenda warranty claim and they denied that they could see anything wrong in the pictures. etrailer said Kenda handles warranty claims for these.

Kenda does indeed hold a 5-year limited warranty on these tires. It seems that our customer service department is in the process of getting that warranty claim issued for you.

by:

Great tire have had no issues with them. Definitely recommended definitely push these tires to the limit but the take it ever step of the way

by:

The tire looks as good as the original tires, high quality and same ratings. One of the original tires blew out and needed to be replaced. So feel confident in the use of the new tire on the road. I'm happy with my purchase

by:

Great service, fast delivery. Will mount the tires this week but they look great.

by:

We have a 5th wheel & we normally travel about 3 months a year. However, this year we are traveling 6 months and we will be home by the end of April. So far we have traveled in 27 states and about 14,000 miles. I can't say enough about how good these tires have performed. Especially, since many of the roads and highways we have traveled are very rough. The tires are performing greatly, no flats, very good thread wear, (even on all four), no noise, no problems. I love them. +

by:

Great tires. I have them on my 42' enclosed 3 axel. Packed everything we own, 32,300 lbs and went from upstate western NY to SC, pulling it with my Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi, totally overloaded and they pulled nice ! Then the trailer sat in storage, still loaded and didn't lose any air in 8 most. Would buy again for sure.

by:

These tires are obviously more sturdy that the set of 4 that I bought on that major e-commerce website. When two of them started coming apart, I bought two more. When the 3rd one failed, I knew I would have to spend a little extra money to get a good tire. I've only run them 41.3 miles so far, so the verdict is still out. I expect many thousands of miles from these. But the other cheap tires only gave me a couple of thousand miles--an expensive lesson.

by:

My son had good things to say about these tires and I wanted to try a different brand after having some issues with the ones I was using.
I checked with my local guy and he couldn't get these.

Found them on etrailer and they had the lowest prices with free shipping. Problem was I needed them for the weekend and you know how shipping goes, they are never there when they say they will be.

Well I spent $25 extra to get them here in three days. I could not believe it, they were here in three days! Must have been that two hours after I ordered them I already had a tracking number, that must have helped!

I got them mounted up with my new valve stems and they are looking good.

by:

Other dealers claim to have the parts I need....l placed the order then 4 business days I get an email saying not available for 3 to 4 weeks...that's not what your website said. Then I have to wait 5 more business days to get my money back. Yes their prices was better but I contacted you guys at etrailer and gave you my list of parts needed. 5 days later UPS is knocking on my door and unloading my parts. I could never be more happier at this moment....Thanks etrailer
My new found friends.

by:

I purchased these tires a year ago and have used them to cross the country… Thousands of miles and they are looking great. I knew what kind of tire I wanted from the get-go and I’m glad I went with Karrier.

by:

Really a quality tire very fast shipping looks good on my car trailer!!

by:

Quick Service and free shipping. I was very pleased with the overall experience

by:

The service from etrailer for the Kenda/Karrier ST225/75Rx15 trailer tires was excellent. They shipped and arrived as promised. The price point was good as well as compared to others who sell these tires. These Load Range E will be used on my 25' enclosed car hauler trailer, replacing the factory tires that lasted only 18 months. The trailer is headed to Florida and back, from Pennsylvania, in March, so they will get a good workout.

The tires have preformed well. They have made several long trips with heavy weight with no problems. Wear has been slight after approximately 6000 miles. I will buy another set for my smaller trailer when they are needed.

by:

I tried unsucessfully to order tires from simpletire.com but their web site would not process my order over the weekend so on monday i tried all day to talk to anybody to help me out but never got thru so tuesday i decided that if i cant even get thru to the sales dept why would i want to purchase there so i looked around and etrailer had the exact tires i wanted and a 110% low price garrantee so i called to get assistance and Judy answered and got me all hooked up i had to purchase them full price then she credited my account within 15 mins they were shipped that day and they were at my house thursday when i got home - Awesome, they came in individual boxes and when i opened them up and checked it out they were all the correct size and load rating and the build date on all the tires were 4516 which means they were built in the 45th week of 2016 which makes them about 3 and a half months old i am very pleased with Judy and all her help and etrailer for the super fast shipping i will be shopping here in the future

got about 5k miles on them now and they all are performing as they should

by:

good tires have on heavy toy hauler when we changed form original tires to these you could feel the lessened rolling resistance , trailer moved much easier. Have gone a several long distance trips with these 2,000 miles plus with these towing a loaded heavy trailer . They handle weight well and have no bad traits. Picked up a spare tire from etrailer going on another trip a spare was original 12 yrs old. Hopefully i never use bought load range E and have them set at max inflation pressure.

Tires still working and wearing well have gone on 2 trips 6,000 miles total. Great tire at a great price

by:

Best transaction I’ve had online. They had the tires I needed in stock and received them in less than three days. This is my second order from Etrailer.com and will not be the last.. The tires came in individual boxes and were Not damaged at all. I highly recommend doing business with this company.

The tires are doing great on my travel trailer, in two weeks we will be taking it out for another 2000 mile trip, Great tires!!

by:

This is the second tire I have purchased. The first tire is holding up just great. So I had a need for a second one and purchased another one.

by:

Going to have them mounted and balanced tomorrow, so far so good. Taking a trip to Cape Hatteras in a couple of weeks. It will be a good test! My rating is a 5 as of now Great service and product and as always great customer service !

by:

Tires were shipped very fast and arrived in great shape. Took them right to a shop for mounting and just returned from a trip. Very happy!

Still look new! Tires have been on a year and are wearing well. Tire pressure stays consistent.

by:

Great tires, seem to be doing well after a year.

by:

Needed a new set to replace an old set of continentals on my triple axle airstream. I could immediately tell the difference between the two sets in the Kenda's were much smoother and not nearly as bouncy. MPGs went up from 12.5 to 14. Definitely recommend these and would buy again.

by:

They seem to pull easier and ride better on my camper. I really like them.

by:

I needed a tire for a spare and a co-worker told me about your company. Lots of choices and with free shipping, couldn’t go wrong ordering from you. Priced competitively, arrived boxed(!), nice and clean. Will definitely use the company again for any trailer related items needed in the future.

Thankfully, it’s a spare and haven’t had to use it! Holding air and looks as new with no miles.

by:

Needed a spare tire for my phoenix trailer. Trailer had I'm stock correct size and load rating.

by:

Kenda Karrier Load Star tires were highly recommended by other trailer owners to me. These tires are load rated E, the best load tire for an 15" tire, and they are speed rated M, which I believe is 81 MPH. As far as I know, only the Goodyear Endurance tire is speed rated N, which comes at a higher cost. It is too early to tell you just how good they are, yet I have high confidence in them.

  • Proper Tire Pressure on Kenda Karrier ST 225/75 R15 Load Range E Tire
The 225/75-15 Kenda Karriers with a Load Range of E are part # AM10303. I went out to our warehouse and verified the tire's maximum psi is 80 and has a maximum weight capacity of 2,830 pounds. Special traier (ST) tires should always be inflated to the maximum air pressure. If it's inflated to a higher or lower psi the maximum capacity of the tire is unknown because it won't perform as it's designed which will cause uneven wear, excessive heat, and eventually failure. Every 225/75-15 tire we carry, such as the Kenda # AM10303 will fit on a 15" x 6" tire so it would make more than a little sense that your tires also fit. For a wheel we have the Steel Mod Silver Trailer Wheel # AM38NR. You can pair that with the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10303. Keep in mind that we cannot mount the tires on the wheels here at our warehouse, so you would need to go get them mounted.

  • Can Any Tire be Used as a Replacement for a 1963 Airstream Overlander
It depends on what you mean by "any tires". If you are wanting to use passenger car tires then you can in an emergency situation but you really need to use trailer tires for normal use of your Airstream Overlander. Trailer tires have a stiffer sidewall that can handle the weight of the trailer much better. When it comes to the size of the trailer tire you really need to try to stick with the same size that is currently on the trailer. Sometimes you can get a bigger or smaller tire as long...

Yes our trailer tires are very new as we sell quite a bit of them. The Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E, part # AM10303 that you are looking at are a very popular size and don't keep a huge amount of inventory for this reason specifically.

The 225/75R15 is going to have about 3/4" taller sidewall so you will want to make sure you currently have about 2" of clearance around the tire when your suspension is compressed. Remember to also check the distance between both tires as this will decrease by 1-1/2". The width of the tire is going to only increase just under 1/2". So an additional 1/4" on each side of the tire. If these all work for your clearances than the next step is the load range. There are 3 load ranges available...

Your 225/75 load range E tires similar to our Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10303 may not be the issue you are having as generally excessive tire wear is caused by other factors. First your Haulotte 5533A lift may have a bent axle spindle or bad bearings that would cause the tire to not sit flat on the ground while in tow. With the tire not being level it would cause the portion of the tread in contact with the ground to wear faster. The other determining factor is air...

Speed is a huge issue with trailer tires actually. Unless otherwise noted trailer tires are rated as 65 miles per hour as their max speed. Exceeding the speed rating will cause the tire to heat up and fail easier. We do have a couple brands that have higher speed ratings. The Taskmaster radials like the part # C22515D which is an ST225/75R15 like you mentioned has a speed rating of 81 mph. But this tire is the best option around in this size. It has a high weight capacity, and a speed rating at 81 mph.
