7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector, 4' Long - H20043

Average Customer Rating:  4.7 out of 5 stars   (330 Customer Reviews)

When I ordered this harness I thought I was getting a standard 7 way for a conventional trailer with brakes. What I actually got was a harness made for a camper/RV hook up. The wires have all the colors you would expect but all the lights/turn signals are coded into the plug completely different. After spending a good deal of time carefully matching, soldering and heat shrinking all connections to my new trailer harness, I was very dismayed to find only the brakes actually worked. After a bit of research I found a schematics page on the etrailer site and discovered the problem. As this is a molded plug I could not take it apart and just reposition the wires inside the plug. Another full hour or more of rewiring followed and now all is well. The harness itself is of very good quality but was not labeled/identified properly. This could have been prevented if etrailer would clearly label this harness as a camper/RV harness only.

by:

This is definitely a good quality molded cord for the money. Route and wire this cord into a good quality junction box and you will be on your way to having some excellent trailer wiring.

by:

Ordered 1/28 - showed shipped 2/1 with estimated delivery date of 2/6. It had a USPS tracking number that would only show the label was created. Never showed the product moved. After two contacts with customer service I was told they can't track the package until a certain date. I was notified 2/17 my package would be delivered that day. Not sure what contract etrailer has with USPS but I can track a tin of cookies to Pittsburgh, PA I think they can tell me where my $[XX] package of parts is at.

by:

love this connector. much better than the coiled connector that was put on my trailer. I found the wiring directions easy to follow and online demonstrations were very helpful. Shopping and checkout are easy. Prices are competitive. been very pleased with trainer and previous purchases!

by:

Worked great for my application. The wire colors for 7 way plugs aren't universal so I had to pull up a pinout of a 7 way plug and ohm out the wires to the plug to confirm what went where. But the quality of the plug is excellent. After a year of use on a salt water boat trailer it works great. Just makes sure you heat shrink your butt splices and a little dielectric grease in the plug goes a long way.

by:

Great connector and harness for the price. Very well made

by:

Well, my first impression of this item is it is very sturdy and will be a great addition to my trailer.

by:

The quality of this trailer plug connector should make it last forever! The seal at the end will withstand the constant bending and twisting that this daily-use utility trailer will put to it. The blade style RV plug end will fit any factory equipped pickup receptacle so I can use multiple tow vehicles.

Still working fine after a year in my Coastal saltycorrosive weather.

by:

Trailer wiring was too short for use with a weight distributing hitch.
Cut this to length and attached a plug on the end.
Plug the trailer wire harness into this extension and other end to truck.
Saved cutting and extending original trailer wiring.

by:

Love the molded design, they last much longer with no maintenance.

by:

Used this on my snowmobile trailer. The cable outer jacket is to rigid (Not flexible). Gets worse in colder temps. Don't recommend it for cold use. Picture is in garage at 53F. Cable is so stiff it won't fall on the floor.

by:

34 degrees or colder the cord looses all flexibility, becomes so stiff it broke my plastic insert it plugs in to on my Tahoe.

by:

Great quality for a great price :)

by:

Right now 3 stars. Received the connector 12 Oct 2021. The cord on the trailer had the same connector on it which worked if you manipulated the pins to make connection (reason for replacing). The wiring colors on trailer, old connector snd new connector are the same, so adding new connector wasn’t a problem. When I plugged into the vehicle and tried the lights, nothing worked properly. The only time any lights came on was when right turn or hazard switches were activated and ALL the lights on trailer came on flashing. Tried the connection on 2 vehicles with same result. Called etrailer and they are sending another connector. Will give update then.

Great

by:

The cord worked well, the length was just right for my set up!

by:

As always, I got exactly what I ordered, on time without any glitches. Etrailer are my go to guys for all my trailer accessories. Great company to do business with.

by:

Very good quality

by:

It works. After I spent the time putting this in, figuring out the color code, then testing it in a socket, when I realized that the plug only uses one contact blade per wire. Which is plainly shown in the picture but I was expecting a higher quality plug like the one that I replaced so didn't notice that in the picture. In is in and works. Not worth spending the time and money to replace it until needed.

by:

Great quality, affordable and easy wiring. The extra length let me change the configuration to better suit me trailer/truck setup.

by:

This umbilical has different gauge wires within it. The heaviest gauge being #10, which should correspond to the brake power supply and ground. It does not. Only one of the two #10 wires corresponds with brakes, the other one is going to a light’s blade on your vehicle’s socket. So all the effort spent on ensuring that you wired your brakes with the required #10 wires is lost when you splice this connector to your trailer. You’ll have #10 positive to your brakes yet the ground will be #12 or #14. Grounds are always the weak link in 12 volt electrics.

by:

great workmanship, high quality parts

by:

Great customer service

by:

the wire colors doesn't match standard wire colors, need to determine which wire color corresponds to what position on the connector end. other than that quality and construction is good.

The Hopkins part # H20043 uses the following wire coloring: White Wire - Ground Red Wire - Left Turn and Brake Brown Wire - Right Turn and Brake Green Wire - Tail Lights Blue Wire - Brake Power Black Wire - 12 volt or hot lead Yellow Wire - Aux. I recommend wiring your trailer by function and not color. If there is a circuit you do not need for any reason it does not have to be connected.

  • Rewiring Boat Trailer for 7-Way to Use LED Lights
There are a number of things you will need if you want to re-wire your boat trailer to use LED lights and you should start with Junction Box # 3375601100 and 7-Way # HM20041. • Replacement for Damaged 7-Way Trailer Connector
By damaged power cable, I assume you are referring to your trailer's 7-way being severed, and while there likely isn't going to be any electrical damage, you will need to replace the 7-way connector from the trailer. You didn't specify what was severed, but this is the most obvious culprit based on how they connect. For that you would be able to splice in a new connector, depending on the length you need: - 4 feet: 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20043 - 6 feet: Mighty Cord 7-Way...

  • SC on Hayes Engage Brake Controller
Thank you for your purchase from etrailer of the Hayes Engage Trailer Brake Controller # HA81760. I looked at the instructions (linked below) and the SC means "short circuit" which "indicates a direct short to ground in the blue wire (output) circuit." So you'll want to take a look at the blue brake wire and see if there is damage there. It could also mean your trailer or Dakota's 7-way is damage or corroded which often prevents signals from getting through, and if so you could replace...

If you're actually looking for a 7-way then instead look at part # H20043. It's a jacketed trailer side connector. This video is linked as well.

There isn't a specific tool to clean the 7-way connectors, but some simple household items will work. For example, use some pipe cleaner and white vinegar and that should get the job done. If you do have to replace your 7-way on the trailer side you can use # H20043. And to avoid corrosion and dirt build-up in your connectors I very highly recommend always using Dielectric Grease for Electrical Connectors # 11755.

All you need to do is plug it into the 7-way socket on your truck and it will work as a replacement. For a trailer connector I recommend the Hopkins 7-Way RV Style Connector with Molded Cable # H20046 which is 8 feet long. On a 7-Way trailer connector there should not be a 24 volt wire.
