Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

The tires were very good. I sold the trailer after a year so I can’t say much about longevity.

I have had these tires on my trailer for over a year. They have performed very well. Balance and treadwear have been excellent. I would buy them again.

I ordered and paid for TWO TIRES. Receive one… check my order. I NEED THAT 2nd tire ASAP.

by:

Ordered the spare tire rack and galvanized wheel and tire. Great price on everything, found the load range D 13” tires at reasonable price. The short tires help me get the boat in the water even when tide is out.

by:

Shipped & received quickly. Only source I have been able to find for these tires, so appreciate having them in stock.

by:

I’ve now had two sets of these on my boat trailer(they were replaced once on warranty) they chunked and came apart each time. Both tires have the same chunking. These are barely a year old off a small aluminum boat trailer. etrailer was awesome in all aspects, the tires are just junk from manufacturer.

Fast shipping. Great tires and great low price

by:

Ordered 2 boat trailer tires, Loadstar ST175/80D13 bias 8 ply load range D, early CST on the morning of 4/09/14. I selected 5-7 day standard ground shipping at no charge. I was notified within an hour by email that the tires had shipped and that shipping was upgraded to 3-5 days at no charge to me. The tires shipped at 9:39 a.m. CST and arrived 2 days later on 4/11/14 at 11:04 a.m. CST. What more could a man ask for! I already have them mounted on my trailer and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform. I ordered the tires from e trailer because I could not find any 8 ply load range D tires locally in the size my trailer/boat called for. The price was very good also. Thank you e trailer for an excellent experience and great service. I will definitely remain a customer.

The tires have performed flawlessly and I will continue to be a customer for any future trailering needs.

needed replacement tires for my Coleman/Fleetwood tent trailer. the old ones were 14 years old, and badly worn. local tire shops carry little, or nothing for replacements, and at a $100 each. got the exact OEM name brand replacement tires from this place for a little more than half that, with free shipping. local "discount tire" mounted and balanced them for $20. these tires were date coded from January of this year, and made in Taiwan. much preferred over Chinese stuff. these are bias ply, 6 ply (8 ply rated) nylon and polyester corded tires. they appear to be very well made. the side walls of bias ply tires are much sturdier than radials, and i believe they will be durable. they were shipped fast, in a large sturdy box. could not be happier.

working great, am very happy with purchase

Replacement tire works great.

by:

Purchased these tires in Jan for my boat trailer. They appeared to be a little deformed which I thought would make them hard to mount. I did not plan to install them right away. After talking with tech support I was reassured they would be OK. Just got around to installing them myself and they worked out just great and they were exactly what I was looking for on my boat trailer.

After a year of running these tires I could not be happier. They have taken all of the abuse I could give them and no problems. Besides all of the short trips to the lake I have made a trip across the country to Arizona with all of the heat on the highway and still no problems.

by:

The 13" 8-ply LRD Load Star trailer tires perform very well. I get about 10K miles on a set before I replace them and I am on my third set. No flat tires yet!

Eric O.

3/12/2017

The tires are performing very well. Of course, my snowmobile trailer sat all summer with four machines inside and the tires did not require any air this winter. We have put nearly 3000 miles on the tires and they show no wear so far. I find it remarkable that they have not lost any air at all. I am very pleased.

by:

PERFECT!!! Super fast shipping, excellent product, astoundingly good price and unusually excellent customer service!Had superb selection..found just what I wanted..cannot say enough good things about my experience w/etrailer.(tires are a joy compared to the set they replaced..recommended!)

by:

I purchased these tires for a home-made trailer that I wasn't sure about. The tires shipped very quickly and the price was great. I just drove over 400 miles with my news tires, and the tines are still on the tires. So far, these tires are fantastic and look like they will last a long time!

After a year, the tires are still in great shape. They are a good ride for the box trailer

by:

I ordered two tires but I received one that was the wrong size due to being mislabeled. However, etrailer was quick and courteous in resolving the problem. Fantastic to work with and will definitely order from you again.

The tires are as good as advertised. Ive been from Atlanta to Orlando and back with these tires trailering my boat. Trailer handled beautifully.

by:

Had to return one tire for being the wrong one. Right label on the wrong tire. Customer service was excellent. They righted the wrong and had me a new tire the next day. Thank you.

by:

These tires look good and have a high load rating-they are rated for a much higher weight than many tires on the market (all of the tires locally available were 4ply with a wimpy C load range) in this size TR175-80/13. They are mounted on a model 1285 Coachman Pop-up camper & I have had poor luck with the radial tires in this size-lots of cord separations & blowout failures. I am going to try out these Bias-Ply 8 ply tires. I just made my first short trip on them (approx. 200 miles in 98 degree weather) and they pulled smooth and straight. I like how they sit up with stiffer sidewalls than the radials they replaced. Be sure to have them mounted with brass shaft high pressure valve stems as the standard all rubber stems are not rated for the 65 psi pressure these tires need for maximum load rating-and it is always a good idea to have trailer tires balanced. It remains to be seen how they hold up over time on longer trips, thus the 4 star rating.

by:

Glad I found these at e-trailer. Local tire shop didn't have any Load Range" D", and wanted half again as much for their "C" tires, but they had no problem mounting these for me and installing them on my pop-up camper.

We've dragged that trailer all over the state - 4 weekends an a week long trip last year, and we're doing 5 weekends and two trips a week long this year. The tire still look new.

by:

The tires look decent, but I’ve never seen tires this distorted before. The tire looks like a bowl, with the inside bead surface pushed out past where the outer bead surface would normally be. I tried throwing a 45lb plate on top of the bulging sidewall, then stood on top of it, but it will not pop back to normal. We’ll see what happens when I mount them, just think it’s gonna be tough seating the bead.

When the tires are shipped to us, theyre palletized which can compress them. Once theyre mounted on a rim, theyll pop back into place and work perfectly for you.

by:

I replaced the tires on my boat trailer with load star tires. Have went on 8 trips. 150 miles to 400 miles round trip. I tent camp so I load my boat down. Not one issue. Have great tread for next year. Great product. st175/80d13 bias trailer tire. My factory tires didn't even last for a year.

by:

Great products and great service. I bought a pair of the Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire - Load Range D - AM1ST77 and couldn't be happier with them and the service from Etrailer.com. I also bought a bike carrier from Etrailer and am just as pleased with that.

by:

Been great havnt put to many miles on them but nice stuff THANKSSAAAAAAAAAAAA

by:

Great 13” 8 ply trailer tires. Peace of mind towing my UTV from Missouri to Wyoming and back knowing the tires could handle the weight and road heat at 75 mph. Also was able to load up 2 Harleys and did a similar trip to Sturgis as well. Great tires and the price was right.

by:

I haven't used these yet. They are in the shop for mounting and balancing. The price is good, and the shipping was quick, and free. I'm sure these tires will work out great.

7/14/2020

The tires are perfect sfter a year. I recomend these tires.

by:

Haven't put a lot of miles on these yet but the definetly a smoother ride than what the Pop-Up camper I bought came with. I bought new wheels at the same time as I like to know everything is straight. I noticed they didn't lose any pressure after six months in storage which is awesome. I only wish I had bought the wider tire.

by:

Sweet tire! Purchased for my Coleman Cheyenne pop-up camper.
Needed an 8 ply tire and the staff nailed it with these skins.
They have a very smooth, quite ride and look great.
I highly recommend this tire.

Great, on a trip now and the tires are perfect. Camper was on jacks all winter, lowered the campers, checked pressure and off we went

  • Travel Trailer Tires for 25 Foot Tandem Axle Trailer with ST205/75-15 Tires
It is best to stick with the tire size recommended by the trailer manufacturer. This information should be on a sticker or plate on the trailer tongue or frame somewhere. Since the trailer weighs or is rated at 6,000 pounds, I recommend going with load range C ST205/75-15 tires if that is what the trailer manufacturer requires. Use # AM10244 for a radial or # AM1ST92 for a bias ply tire. Each is rated for 1,820 pounds at 50 psi. I have linked our help article on trailer tires for you.

  • Taller Trailer Tire Size to Replace 175/80-13
If you wanted to stick with using your 13 wheel you could go with the slightly larger 185/80-13 size like # LHCK105 from Castle Rock. This will be .3 of an inch taller than what you have but will also fit same rim you have. If you are looking for a significant change in diameter though you'd need to replace the wheels and tires with the size 205/75-14 like # AM10235 for the tires and # AM20352 for the wheels, which would give you additional diameter of 2.2 inches.

  • Higher Capacity ST175/80-13 Trailer Tires for a Boat Trailer that Keeps Blowing Tires
Actually, 13 inch tires are becoming less common. So you may want to think about going to a 14 inch in the future. But for now you can get 13 inch tires. Going up to a 185 from a 175 should not be necessary unless you are overloading the tires you have. That is possible given the weight of the trailer. I recommend stepping up to a load range D tire in size ST175/80-13 such as # AM1ST77 for a bias ply, or # AM10210 for a radial. These tires are rated for 1,610 pounds at 65 psi. So 4 of...

  • How do You Know How Much to Inflate a 10 Ply Rated Tire on a 1/2 Ton Truck
On a passenger vehicle, you would inflate the tire according to what the sticker says in the door jamb or in the owners manual of the vehicle. The pressure is chosen by the vehicle manufacturer for the best ride quality given the weight and design of the vehicle. Often times different air pressures are used for different scenarios on any given vehicle such as when towing or carrying heavy loads. This is different from trailers that require the maximum psi indicated on the tire. This is...

The modern tire size equivalent to your F78-15 is the size ST205/75-15 like the part # AM10245. This is a Load Range D tire with the capacity of 2,150 lbs at 65 psi. For a Load Range C in this size you would want the part # AM10244 instead. This tire has a capacity of 1,820 lbs at 50 psi. As long as you go with a tire that has enough weight capacity for your trailer when loaded it doesn't matter which Load Range you go with. You should note that trailer tires should always be inflated...

I recommend using the Kenda Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Black Mod Wheel # AM31990 on your 2011 Forest River Rockwood Freedom 1970 pop up camper. These tires are the heavier rated D range which is good for up to 1,610lbs per tire. The Tire # AM1ST77 itself also carries a 5-year warranty from the manufacturer. Since you only have the 1-1/2" of clearance I cannot recommend moving to a larger size wheel or tire. Be sure to use some Tire Covers # 290-3974 to protect the...

  • Can a 10 inch Trailer Wheel on a Pontoon Trailer get Replaced by a 13 inch Wheel
If you can fit the 13 inch wheel and tire that would be a great option. Larger wheel will in theory give you more stability and additional weight capacity. You will have to have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern for the wheel and tire to fit. For a white wheel with the right tire you would want the part # AM3S333. • Can Tire Size 175/70-13 be Used on Trailer
The easy answer is that as long as there's an "ST" in front of the tire size it's going to be totally fine and safe to use on a camper trailer. That said, a 175/70-13 tire size is not a standard trailer size so most likely what you have is a passenger vehicle tire and you'd need to go with a trailer tire instead like the size you had on previously 185/80-13 like the # LHCK105 from Westlake which has a great tread design for traction, a higher speed rating, and comes with a warranty that...

The R in the ST20575R15 stands for radial which is the way the tire is constructed. The main difference between a radial ply and a bias ply tire is how the tire is constructed. The cords inside a bias ply tire run at a 32 degree angle to the direction of travel, and the cords on a radial tire run at a 90 degree angle to the direction of travel, or across the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. • What Is the Correct Tire Pressure for Travel Trailer
On any trailer tire such as the Provider ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2057515C you always want to inflate the tire to the maximum cold psi, which on this tire is 50. Doing this will give you the best performance, allowing the tire to wear more slowly and give you optimum gas mileage. ST trailer tires should be inflated to their listed max psi when inflated cold (meaning prior to trip). The trip will increase the heat of the tire due to the road friction and ambient temperatures so you will have an increased psi reading, which is accounted for in the tire rating. It sounds like you are seeing similar temperature increases even at the reduced psi and just having the max psi reduced. The pressure listed on the tire's sidewall is intended for when the tire is cold. The air pressure will increase a bit as the tire heats up, but that will not cause an issue and is still perfectly safe. We frequently get asked if it's advisable to reduce the pressure in a trailer tire, below what's stated on the sidewall. We don't recommend doing this, as the most trailer tire manufacturers do their load testing with the tires at full pressure. If the pressure is reduced, so is the capacity...

What causes the equalizers of the trailer suspension to not sit level can be caused by a few things. Typically it's just a trailer not sitting perfectly level which can easily be leveled by lowering or raising nose of trailer.
