Does Kenda Loadstar ST175/80D13 Bias Trailer Tire Part # AM1ST77 Require Changing Rims

Question:

I ordered these thinking all bias ply tires required a tube. These say tubeless so is that going to require a different rim? Thanks,

The Kenda Loadstar ST175/80D13 Load Range D Bias Trailer Tire, part # AM1ST77, is a tubeless bias-ply tire designed for use on 13 x 4-1/2, 13 x 5, and 13 x 5-1/2-inch trailer wheels. Please note that not all bias ply tires are tubeless. I have provided a link to a product review video for this tire.

If you wish you can take your current rims to a local tire dealer who can inspect them and advise you whether they are safe for use with a tubeless tire.

Depending on the age of your rims you may need to use a different tube-type tire or change rims. Older rims were often designed for tubed tires. Such rims will not create the necessary airtight seal required for use with a tubeless tire. (Please note that you cannot add an inner tube to a tubeless tire for use with an older rim as this will cause excessive heat build-up and potential tube/tire failure.)

If you prefer, and if your current rims have a 5-on-4-1/2 bolt pattern, you can order these same Load Range D tires already mounted on white-powder-coated steel rims as part # AM31233.

We also offer separately rims suitable for these Kenda tires, as part # AM20232. These rims are 13 x 4-1/2 size with a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern, a 3.19-inch pilot hole and are intended for 1/2-inch wheel bolts.

I have linked two helpful articles on wheel bolt patterns and tire FAQs that may be useful to you. I have also included a link to our department page for trailer wheels where you can use the filters at the left-hand side of the page to isolate those wheels of the appropriate size and bolt pattern for your trailer hubs.
