Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I had to modify to fit my aluminum trailer. etrailer did not offer a carrier large enough to fit and the return shipping cost negated sending it back.

by:

This is a easy and straightforward installation, the instructions are very well written and easy to understand, it took me approximately seven minutes to install. I did a lot of research online for a spare tire mount and found this one to be the least expensive and has the highest customer ratings of all that I looked at. I have an aluminum trailer and it shows to mount it in this location, i’m not sure it will work being so close to the hitch I may have to move it to the side of the trailer which means I’ll have to drill holes I’ll post pics if I do .

Time for the yearly review, I have to say this was an awesome purchase, it outside all year long and their is no rust on it. Too bad I can’t post pictures, but I have to say if you want a quality spare tire mount this is the one you should get hands-down.

by:

Good product the washers that lock the carriage bolts in place don’t hold well so it makes it a bit harder to start the hold down bolts.

by:

Great product. I got it for my Triton ATV trailer. Make sure check the size of the frame it needs to be installed. On the Triton trailer the frame is a bit bigger so I had to modify the installation but it wasn't a big deal. It was my fault haven't measured the frame size. I recommend this product.

by:

Tire carrier fits great; thanks for the follow up!

by:

I needed a way to carry a spare tire on my ATV trailer before my luck ran out and I got stranded with a flat. This works perfectly. It's well contructed, and should last for the life of the trailer. The description allowed me to be sure it would fit, and customer service has been very good.

Very happy, it does exactly what I need it to do.

by:

Arrived as promised. Looks like a quality piece, I have not yet mounted it yet but I do not anticipate any issues.

I would definitely recommend buying to anyone.

by:

The material is very heavy duty and installation only took 15 minutes.
Works very well to free up more space in a small cargo trailer.

Fantastic price, great selection, and free shipping to boot. I needed new tires for a long ATV trip and wanted a spare tire as well (I know, I know, but I usually only trailer locally). I ordered these radial tires and rims pre-mounted which allowed me to use one of the old wheels as my spare. Everything performed flawlessly over about 600 miles and even held their torque specs when I checked them during and after the trip. The spare tire carrier compliments the galvanized trailer frame and rims and looks like it will hold up to the elements of the North East. All in all, I highly recommend these products and etrailer.

by:

Very sturdy tire mount and worked very well for my trailer. I would recommend this product if you are in the market for one.

I still have the spare tire carrier and am still very happy with it. would recommend it others.

by:

This is a well constructed Fulton Hi-Mount offset spare tire carrier for my 1956 trailer. It fit perfectly on may 3" main channel with parts to spare. The shorter bolts may be useful elsewhere. There is plenty of ground clearance for my 5 hole 8" spare tire with plenty of clearance from the bumper and trailer jack. This took me about 30 minutes to install on the side yard of my garage. It may have taken me longer due to the need to locate the tools I would need for the installation but I was in no rush. With the spare tire mounted high and aft of the tongue hitch it feels very secure for highway travel. I may need to fine a way to lock the tire to the trailer to deter theft but I am happy with this unit so far.

by:

This trailer spare tire mount is an excellent product. It is easy to attach on the trailer and takes all of about 10 minutes. The product is very well made and sturdy. My husband and I highly recommend this spare tire mount for trailers.

Thank you etrailer.

This is the second product I have ordered from etrailer and I must say I am a satisfied customer. Products are as described (no surprises) and were shipped fast to my house. I bought the trailer hitch kit and mounted to my VW Tiguan. Everything lined up perfectly. I recently ordered the spare tire mount for my LoadRite trailer and and it fit perfectly. Great company with great products and excellent customer service

I have two little Honda CT-90's, and a couple of months ago I purchased a small utility trailer to haul them around on. I've been really concerned because there was no place for a spare tire. Problem solved. I bought your Fulton Hi-Mount spare tire rack and had it installed in about 30 minutes. The little 12" tire fits on the rack perfectly. THANKS!

by:

Placed my order hoping I would get it in a couple of weeks before I left for Maine.
Instead I got it in a "WEEK", how good is that for customer service! I also ordered the spare tire carrier FSTC1000301which came in the same shipment. I mounted it as you can see and it worked out great. Thanks George

by:

Had to add a spare tire on a trailer I purchased and this fit the bill for me. I don't think it is for an 8 inch wheel but it is on the trailer and the spare tire is mounted on it just fine.

by:

Bought a used ATV trailer and needed a spare tire. Decided to replace both old wheels & tires with new, so needed to mount the 2 old wheels. This Tire Carrier fit perfectly on my trailer, start to finish I spent just 30 minutes total mounting the carrier & then the spares. A couple of notes, both 3" long & 4" long frame mounting bolts are provided, so the carrier would fit a wide range of trailer frames (mine was 2"x2"). Supplied tire nuts are 3/4 inch; trailer lug nuts are 13/16 but this was not an issue as I use an old-fashioned 4-way wheel wrench, which accommodates both size nuts. As mounted, both spares are perhaps 1/2" further out than the fenders, so a much better fit than I expected -- and no problem with the standard 5x4-1/2" wheel pattern, fit perfectly. Delivered promptly and zero issues, I will certainly use E-trailer again.

by:

Will use to mount a spare tire and wheel to my open car hauling trailer. It is well made. Installation instructions are complete and easy to follow. Very satisfied.

by:

Great to know that anytime I leave the house with the trailer I have a spare. Works well.

by:

Boater's have known for along time that Fulton products are a step above most others out there. I bought this spare tire bracket to replace one that was stolen along with my spare tire and rim. I put heavy chain around the trailer frame and thru the wheel this time as you can see in the picture. Many thanks to etrailer.com for being so fast with their shipping . This is the very best company I have seen in many years and they truly understand what consumers want--great customer service!

by:

Love this... very tight space to mount the spare... have 1" between the boat and tire. Perfect fit for me. Don't mind the RV tire cover!

by:

Nice quality fulton spare tire mount. Very sturdy, heavy duty with stainless mounting bolts. Fit my boat trailer without issue, keeping the new spare at a perfect location. Great price and very fast shipping from etrailer.

by:

I bought the spare tire, mount and cover cheaper than I could purchase just the exact same tire somewhere else. I received the tire and it was very easy to mount to my trailer and the cover made it look very professional. Would highly recommend.

by:

Perfect offset for the waverunner spare.

by:

If you are looking for a sturdy spare tire mount for your utility trailer, then purchase the Fulton Hi-mount Spare Tire Carrier. The instructions are simple and the product installs as stated. Thanks again to etrailer for another great product.

  • Weight of Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier
The Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier # FSTC1000301 wighs in at about 6 lbs. If you don't already have a tongue weight scale then I recommend picking up our Scale # e99044 because it makes everything easier, plus it weighs under 5 lbs so you can easily take it with you to make sure you have your trailer loaded the best way every single time.

  • Will a 28 Inch Spare Tire Fit Inside of DeeZee Specialty Series Trailer Tongue Toolbox DZ91717
Even at an angle I do not think a 28 inch tall tire will fit in toolbox # DZ91717. The box measures 22-3/4 inches tall, 19 inches front to back, 34 inches long at the back and 20-3/4 inches long at the front. Basically I don't think you could get enough of an angle to fit the tire in. To lock the spare to the trailer you could use a spare tire carrier such as # FSTC1000301 with a cable lock # FCLK150100.

  • Is 8 to 9 Full Turns Enough for Trailer Wheel Lug Nuts
This is a tough one. I did a little math and if you have 1/2 inch studs on the hub then every full rotation of a lug nut is approximately 1-1/2 inches of rotational travel and on standard 1/2"-20 threads the distance from one thread to the next is approximately 0.05 inches. That would mean for 8 to 9 turns the lug nut would be gripping 0.4 inches to 0.45 inches of the wheel stud. That isn't very much but it could be enough if you were to use blue Loctite # LT37643 to prevent the lug nuts...

Yes , the Fulton Spare Tire Lock, part # FSTL0603, is made of a hardened steel, which is very hard to cut or break. You can install the Fulton Hi-Mount Spare Tire Carrier, part # FSTC1000301, using a Loctite Threadlocker, part # LT37423. This is a liquid that will lock the nuts to the bolts and prevent anybody from removing them. To disassemble the nuts and bolts will require the use of heat.
