Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I wish it came with a new axle nut and washer, but i was able to use my originals so no big deal. good product, fit perfect

We do have the spindle nut for the one inch spindle as separate part, part # 165686. The matching washer would be part # SW1000.

by:

Everything fit perfect but I have never been able to adjust the brakes so they actually work.

by:

The parts were all the right ones and most were Dexter oem parts. The only problem I had was putting the bolts in the frame end of the spring perch. It was easier to take the spring loose from the axle, put the bolt in ,then bolt it back to the axle. I intend to buy all of my future trailer parts from etrailer.

by:

Etrailer makes shopping for easy, great pictures and descriptions make it easy to find the right part. This drum was an exact fit for our Dexter brake system on an older tri-axle. We replaced all 6 and they look and fit as the original.

by:

Very good price for authentic made in the usa parts, cant beat that

by:

They are a perfect replacement for the 2x12 dexter utility. You are better off going with these rather than the cheaper ones.

by:

Great experience. Only problem...the carrier delivered it to my neighbors house. Guess they can't read the address label:)

by:

  • What Wheels Work with the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly 8-174-5UC3
The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-174-5UC3 is designed for use with old centerless wheels which we don't currently offer. The only option we can offer would be to use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 8-201-9UC3-EZ instead which are designed for standard wheels with a 6 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern like the Karrier ST225/75R15 Radial Tire with 15" White Spoke Wheel part # AM32680 for example. I have attached our full list of wheel/tire options compatible with this...

  • How To Determine if 5 Spoke Utility Hub 8-174-5UC3 would Fit Trailer Spindle
The part # 8-174-5UC3 could fit your spindle but you have to check the bearing numbers that are in your current hub or measure the spindle where the bearings ride. The bearing numbers that you'd need would be 25580 and 15123 and the dimensions are 1.750 inch and 1.250 inch.

On the Dexter Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly, part # 8-174-5UC3, the wheel studs are a screw-in stud. The wheel stud would be the Trailer Hub Wheel Stud, part # 25-11. This is a 9/16 inch stud that has a total length of 3 inches.

  • Replacement Hubs for 7,000 Pound Axle With 15123 Outer and 25580 Inner Bearings
The answer to your question depends on the bolt pattern you need. We have one hub that actually uses a # 15123 bearing which is the # 8-174-5UC3. This has a 5-spoke utility bolt pattern. More than likely you have an 8 on 6-1/2 bolt pattern on your trailer. If that is the case you can use the # AKHD-865-7-1-K. The # 14125A outer bearing has the same 1.25" inner diameter so it will fit your spindle. However, I recommend measuring to find the inner diameter of your grease seal. The included...

  • Can Flat Bed Trailer Built On Mobilehome Frame Be Towed Without Trailer Brakes?
You can possibly replace your current hub and drum assemblies with an idler hub to remove the trailer brakes, but keep in mind that if the trailer when loaded is over 3000lbs it requires trailer brakes in most states so I recommend checking your local laws to make sure removing your brakes is legal. To find the correct replacement hubs you will need to know the bearing combination your axle uses. To do this you will need to remove one of your hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped...

  • What is Size of Lug Nuts Used on Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3
The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly, part # 8-174-5UC3, includes the lug nuts and rim clamps that hold the wheel on to the hub. The lug nuts are part # 916N and have a 9/16-inch fine thread. The replacement stud that is installed in the hub portion of the # 8-174-5UC3 hub and drum assembly is the Screw-In Wheel Stud, part # 25-11. This stud has lug nut end thread size of 9/16-inch fine thread and the hub end thread size of 9/16-inch coarse. The coarse end of the stud is what screws...

  • Replacement 5 Spoke Utility Hub for Home Built Trailer
The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 referenced in your question uses the same inner bearing # 25580 as your existing hub assembly but a slightly different outer bearing # 15123. With that being said, this particular outer bearing has the same 1.25 inch inner diameter as the # LM67048 that your current hub uses, so this hub will still fit the spindle on your trailer. This Dexter Hub also uses the same 10-10 grease seal, so this hub will work great and there should be no...

  • Replacement Hubs to Fit Bearings 25580 and LM67048 with 5-Spoke Utility Bolt Pattern
The only 5-spoke utility hub we carry is part # 8-174-5UC3 which is a hub and drum assembly. The bearing numbers are # 25580 and # 15123. Obviously this is a different outer bearing number than what you have but it has the same inner diameter as # LM67048 so it still fits your spindles and will work for you. We don't carry an idler hub with that bolt pattern. If you want to use and idler hub on one axle and a hub and drum assembly on the other you do have the option of changing your...

  • One Out of Four Trailer Hubs or Wheels Causes Tire to Rub against Trailer
It probably isn't the drum that is the problem. It is probably the wheel. Some wheels have an offset meaning the mounting surface of the wheel is not right at the center. In this case the mounting surface would be further away from the trailer which moves the tire closer. You can determine if it is the wheel by taking it off the trailer and comparing it to one of the other wheels. To do this lie the wheels face down on the ground. Lay a flat board or yardstick across the tire on each of...
