Replacement 5 Spoke Utility Hub for Home Built Trailer

Question:

I have a home built tandem axle trailer with a pair of Dexter MH axles under it. One of your experts, KIM, has told me its a 5200# axle because of the bearing configuration Inner= 1.75inch 25580 and outer 1.25inch LM67048. Problem is, I need a new hub/Drum Questi is, can I use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 6,000-lb and 7,000-lb Axles - 12inch - 5 Spoke Utility Item # 8-174-5UC3. My spindle has the correct outside diameters of 1.75inch and 1.25inch but this new Hub uses a larger wider outer bearing. Might my axle spindle be a little short? Thanks for any insight and help. Dennis

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # 8-174-5UC3 referenced in your question uses the same inner bearing # 25580 as your existing hub assembly but a slightly different outer bearing # 15123. With that being said, this particular outer bearing has the same 1.25 inch inner diameter as the # LM67048 that your current hub uses, so this hub will still fit the spindle on your trailer. This Dexter Hub also uses the same 10-10 grease seal, so this hub will work great and there should be no fit issues.

This hub and drum assembly has a weight capacity of 3,500 pounds and is typically used on 6,000 to 7,000 pound axles. It features a 5-spoke utility bolt pattern and uses 9/16 inch diameter wheel studs. The bearings, races and grease seal are all included. Please note that while these hubs will have a higher weight capacity than the set you currently have mounted, you will still be limited by the axle's weight capacity (or whichever is the weakest component on your trailer).

I have attached a short video demonstration on this assembly that you can also check out.
