Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

I wanted to replace the Dexter Hubs on a 6x10 trailer with a Dexter product. The original hubs had provided many years of reliable service and felt it was best to replace them. I didn’t trust the hubs that were available through Amazon and other websites. I like the design on the hub that replaced the original hubs and it is the same quality. It’s very convenient to buy the bearings and hubs together to eliminate any confusion.

Excellent the trailer I installed them on has gone a lot of miles with no problems. I’m glad that I chose to replace the old hubs. It wasn’t much more work than replacing the bearings and safer than leaving the old hubs on. The videos on your website are sure helpful another benefit when ordering from etrailer.

by:

I bought this to build a spare tire mount on my dump trailer. I now have a spare hub if it is ever needed in an emergency. It works as it should and I hope to never need it for the intended purpose of an emergency hub.

by:

Have had this installed for about 11 months now. It was a perfect fit and has been working great. Unfortunately, I have had to use this trailer a lot so the hub has had a few miles put on it.

by:

I bought this and put it on my small dump trailer. It has performed flawlessly. I would purchase this again if I ever needed it.

by:

As advertised

by:

Parts were exactly what I wanted. I was able to see a reply to someone that had same problem I had and part numbers were given making my search extremely easy

It has been problem free. Works great

Good quality hubs. As stated by other reviewers, THE CAP SIMPLY WILL NOT FIT!! I was soooo hoping I could just manipulate them on there, but absolutely not. Had to put the old caps back on, and now need to find new ones elsewhere. - I replaced the hubs that were on a small 6.5x12 atv/utv trailer - a Diamond C. (WHY on earth they used 5 on 5 hubs instead of the easier found 5 on 4.5 hubs is beyond me. But, is what it is.) You will need to re-use your castle nut and whatever it is pinned in....either a clip or get a new cotter pin, along with using the existing washer from your other unit. THE RACES ARE ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE NEW HUB. This was helpful. The bearings need to be packed, along with putting the seal in the rear - no big deal. I will not necessarily be using this trailer in water - however, next time I will spend the few more dollars and get the galvanized hubs. Also has a complete set of small lug nuts. I just kept those for emergencies, and replaced with my long stainless steel lugs. My order from etrailer came a day ahead, for which I was EXTREMELY GRATEFUL. Had to change hubs outside - no garage - and as soon as I was done, it started snowing. AND I used etrailer's red grease, UltraLube L10320.

All of the above still applies. The hubs are great. Caps, not even close. Would order galvanized next time.

by:

I needed to replace my bearing on my trailer hubs and since my current hubs were starting to wear I decided to purchase the fully-loaded hubs. I installed the easy-lube grease caps and everything went together perfect. Great product at an amazing price!

Ok we use it for fit up and R&D projects.

by:

Great product, just wished it came prea ssembled

by:

When the package arrived the two hub boxes were floating around inside of an oversized box. Opened up the hub boxes and the bearings, nuts and seals were all bagged up together and unprotected from one another. Hubs had missing paint on them. So the instructions should say have some black touch up paint on hand and make sure to blow all the metal out of the bearings before greasing them.

by:

Order placement was fast, easy and stress-free. Will definitely use again!

by:

Great hubs would have given 5 stars but hub grease caps are so tight the centers were concave by the time I got them on using a rubber mallet to be as gentle as possible. Overall highly recommended to anyone building from scratch or just changing bolt pattern like myself. Dexter is a high quality product. I chose to use Bel-Ray waterproof marine grease and packed everything full. My trailer sees lots of abuse and is not stored under cover + I live in the Pacific Northwest. Lots of rain. Only takes about a half hour to grease and install if you have everything ready to go. As in old hubs removed and spindles cleaned up.

by:

We received your parcel in great shipping order and we are very thrilled with everything. You saved us a lot of money as we had an old home built trailer that was loaned to another and they wrecked the trailer. Because you offer all that we need in parts to repair this trailer AND at a price we can afford, you have set in motion the ability for us to regain the use of the trailer we had to dismantle. My husband was happy he located you online.

We are waiting for cooler weather to do all the welding necessary and I promise to send you photos as we work on the trailer. Wish I had one of it before we dismantled it so you could have a before and after, but I will send the dismantled trailer and pictures of eTrailer's new parts so that everyone can see what a wonderful service you are offering.

My husband has already been bragging at work about what he saved and as I control the budget here so he can work without worry, THANK YOU for offering me help in keeping the costs down.

by:

Have not built a trailer in 30 years. This is apicture of the one i built for good friend. This turn out very nice, heavy duty . All suspension and lights came from E-Trailer . This is the best place to buy and get information. Thank you, Ed.

by:

I built a utility trailer with my son from a 10K weigh capacity boat trailer and wanted to finish it properly. Bearings, hubs and drums arent an area to skimp on when building a trailer but where does a person find the RIGHT replacement parts. My local hardware and big box stores offer off brand replacement parts but of what quality and I'm still guessing as to proper replacement. I called etrailer and boy am I glad I had a micrometer handy. Their customer service walked me through all measurements and I'm assured the best quality products that will stand the test of time. I am grateful for their expertise and assured of quality. Thank you

by:

Well built. Great value

by:

Hubs seem well made. Went together easily and went on the trailer with no issues.

Only problem I had was with how they were shipped. Bearings, seals, caps and nuts were just taped to the the hubs and put in a box with no packing material. One of the caps was crushed and unusable. Just used one off the old hubs.

by:

Maybe I was expecting too much, but the bearings are dry and the way the hub, bearings, lug nuts and grease seal are shipped, they are loosely wrapped in plastic wrap so that they can come loose (at least one of the two that I ordered did) and get separated in the box with the other things if you order other items, which I did. It would have been nice if etrailer had specifically said that the bearings were sold/shipped dry and not already packed with grease. Just makes the job a bit messier than I had anticipated

by:

I ordered 2 complete hubs, plus Bearing Buddies, wheel and tire, winch and a fender on Monday. Monday night received an email that all had shipped, had it on my front porch on Thursday via UPS ground. Everything arrived complete and in good order. The website is worth its weight in gold for a DIY er like me as it contains a ton of info on how to measure, videos on what is included and great installation videos. Helps your confidence when you only do this kind of job once every ten years! My boat trailer is a 2002 venture V-2200.

by:

My order got to me very reasonable time frame and were packaged well. The hubs I ordered were as good of quality that I could get locally and these kits had dust caps, bearings, grease seals and lug nuts. And the price delivered to my house was $26 cheaper than here. Return satisfied customer.

The short answer to both of your questions is yes. You can remove the backing plate or brake assembly and use the existing hub with integrated drum by itself, or, you can simply replace it with an idler hub. • Trailer Axle Recommendation for an ATV Trailer
For an offroad trailer like you described I would recommend a Timbren Axle-Less system like the part # ASR1200S04 would be a great choice. This is a 1,200 lb axle that depending on how much you plan on towing in the trailer might be more than enough by itself and wouldn't require a second axle. This system comes with the suspension and the spindle all together. Also, this system will give great ground clearance since there doesn't need to be an axle running between the two sides.

  • How to Determine Which Replacement Hubs for Utility Trailer With 3500 lb Axles
Given the lug pattern and the size of the brake assemblies, you very well likely have a 3500 lb axle. Since you have a tapered spindle, you most likely have a L68149 inner with an inside diameter of 1.378 and a L44649 outer bearing with an inside diameter of 1.063 inches. You can use a digital caliper to confirm, but I'd almost be willing to bet the farm that's what you have.
