After purchasing a 2018 Honda CR-V Touring, my honey-to-do-task of having to bring trash to the dump every week must be done. I am not a big fan of placing trash inside my new car, despite having a rubber liner. So I purchased the Curt 2 inch receiver hitch and had it installed by my local mechanic. I did not want to have to hook up my small utility trailer to go to the dump since I have to go to work and park in a parking garage after making my trash drop off. I came across this Carpod M2205 walled carrier. I am thrilled with this and like the way it folds up when not in use. There was a simple assembly process to go through after it was received (quick shipping by the way). It is a little heavy placing into the hitch receiver, but note it is easier to place it into the hitch when folded up. I wrapped a piece of duct tape around the exact place of the insertion bar to line up the holes of the hitch pin. Its carrying capacity is well within what I need, and I am quite impressed. There is not much movement of the carrier while driving except for big bumps or potholes. This is an excellent alternative to carrying household garbage inside my new car. The walls are held in place with metal pins and a strap, that is a little short and could be a little bit longer. That would be my only complaint about using this car carrier. Otherwise, I highly recommend this for anyone who needs to carry items outside or to need more space.

Still doing great and loving this product.

I've owned the cargo carrier for 1 year now. I put it on the back of my Subaru Forester and I haven't taken it off yet. It's so useful for so many things, vacations, delivering big packages and taking items to the landfill it was a good purchase for me

by:

I purchased this for a 800-mile round trip vacation to Mammoth Lakes. It greatly extended the amount of luggage and gear we could bring with us, as we head 4 adults and a dog in the car. I could hardly tell the cargo carrier was back there while driving, and it didn't impact my gas mileage at all. I assembled and installed this myself, and it was super easy (although would be easier with a second set of hands.) I also purchased a stretchy net cargo cover, which allowed us to pack above the the actual height of the carrier itself. I attached my license plate to the cargo carrier work zip ties, although I will need to get a bracket with lights for the future of doing nighttime driving. I have no regrets on this purchase and highly recommend!

Have used this on many trips now with zero issues! Just purchased a Yakima Backswing hitch and the cargo carrier works great with it!

by:

I haven't used it yet, but the installation was smooth. The kit did not come with a locking pin to secure the rack to the van mount. Inconvenience aside, this could be a huge safety issue if someone took off without acquiring one.

by:

I've driven just over 7000 mile with my car pod and could not be happier. For the price it's completely worth it and has made my trip a lot easier. I'm certainly not the most mechanically inclined person and was able to put it together and install it myself with little effort. Some of the engineering could use improvements but for the cost I have no complaints.

by:

This is exactly what I wanted and needed for my road trip. With 4 kids, my Honda Pilot would not be able to store what we needed for our vacation. This carrier let me bring our jogging stroller to the shore, while also fitting 2 body boards, 2 beach chairs and more!
This carrier is sturdy and easy to fold/unfold. The walls are a great bonus, giving you the ability to store more and securing more easily with straps.

Ill actually be using it for the 2nd time for my trip next week, so Ill post something after that. And you just reminded me that I need to buy a bike rack!

by:

The cargo tray has worked out great for trips to the dump and picking up products that are to large to put in the back of our SUVs. It also holds a lot of extra trash bags and recyclables with the help of bungee cords. It is easy to put on and remove from the trailer hitch but helps to have a second person holding it up a bit while slipping the pin into the hitch. I also love how it folds up flat to the back on the vehicle when not in use. All in all, I am very satisfied with this product.

by:

Great storage option for our Lexus RX 350. With our particular tow hitch (not from the dealer), you have to push the Carpod back a bit to get the rear lift gate to open.

The hard part of this is you have to put it together yourself. I had to use 1 long breaker bar and a torque wrench to put the main bolt assembly together. It was super tight. Basic hand tools just weren't enough.

One weird thing was the cotter pin / clip is too big for the shank that secures the Carpod in the folded up or down position. It is not really necessary to use however.

by:

The M2205 Cargo Carrier is a well built product and I plan to use it to free-up space inside our 2014 Acura MDX on vacations and long trips for the family and pets. I also bought a bungie net and carabineers to secure oversized cargo. It was easy to build and install. Tightening the A2 nut and bolt requires some effort but that was the toughest part (by no means was it hard). After I installed it I tested the MDX rear hatchback and their is plenty of clearance. Shipping was fast. The only comment about shipping was the box was damaged, but the Cargo Carrier was not. I just used it for a trip between Tampa and New Orleans and it worked perfectly. I highly recommend this hitch carrier!

by:

Product delivered quickly and as described. Installation instruction text was difficult to follow, so just figured it out from the pictures and basic mechanical knowledge. Unit came with paint already worn off parts of the rack due to parts rubbing together during shipping (from China and/or from distributor), so will likely need to repaint from time to time. Would have preferred the hitch to go deeper into the receiver.

by:

This cargo carrier (w/ locking top option) is just what we needed to carry larger items with our RV. No more putting wet & dirty mats back in the RV after a good rain.

The looks and quality of this carrier is first class. Good workmanship and so easy to open / close with the lock pins. We wish we had gotten this years ago!

by:

This is a solid product. Its very sturdy and fits quite a lot of things. Love being able to turn into a box, thats probably the best feature. The only complain i have is that the instructions are hard to read, most of the install is self explainable but there is a small piece metal clip that they sent which i couldn't figure out if they sent to big or not. I ended up buying the piece at an auto shop couple $'s.
Recommend this thing.

by:

Purchased this along with a cargo carrier in order to haul home items throughout several states over the past year. This item met all of my needs and continues to hold up well. Easy to put together and take apart.

by:

Awesome product, poor quality control.

Product
came bent where support beam needs feed through (could not have been assembled without hammering - easy enough though). Bolt clip is twice size of drilled hole in the bolt so I'm also going to need to fix/replace that and lastly sliding clips needed hammering in/out of side pieces as they barely fit.

All in all I can fix it and make it into what I bought but a disappointing initial experience.

by:

I’m a newer customer and have made two recent orders with this company. On the second order, I utilized their price match guarantee and they made the whole process very simple.

The reasons that I chose them over another like-priced vendor were:
(I) the quality of the salespeople (he answered some tech questions) and (Ii) I appreciated the online videos that showed how the this particular product worked on my exact year and model of vehicle. Very cool.

I knew that I liked the function of this design when I ordered. The fit and finish of the product was a wildcard. For a steel structure of this size and price point, it’s pretty good. I wish the paint was a little better, but great paint is hard to find anywhere these days...even on ultra-premium cars...something about protecting the planet for others to enjoy I suspect:)

I’m more than satisfied and will steer others their way with confidence.

by:

The customer service was excellent. The shipping was fast and reliable. The cargo carrier arrived 1 day early and was in good shape when it arrived. It was very easy to put together and I did not have to struggle with the assembly. I am very happy with the purchase.

by:

My husband couldn't wait for the cargo carrier to come. He first put it on his truck then put it on our Class C Motor Home which we will be using for items can't put in camper.

by:

Just received and despite UPS trying to destroy the box in transit it arrived safe and sound although with a few spots with chipped paint. Assembly was easy and it seems very sturdy and well-constructed. I'll be loading with firewood, propane tank and other gear so it will be interesting to see how it performs in the real world but so far it's a great addition to our 23' RV!

by:

super fast delivery, i cant believe it showed up so quickly, i definitely expected at least a week.
i made a mistake in my measurements and etrailer is allowing me to return the carrier. im so disappointed i cant use this carrier because it looks like itd be terrific!

brett.

by:

Instructions in the box shipped were a little confusing for initial setup. Assembly was pretty easy and everything lined up. Assembly took about 20 minutes. Wish it was manufactured in America as its pretty solid and well built.

by:

Product is very well made. We bought this to haul equipment to the beach on the back of our LSV and it works perfect. Size is just right and solved our problem of who was going to hold all the stuff on their lap. Delivery was on time, as expected.

by:

Love this product, so functional for skiing and backpacking trips

by:

This is the best invention ever lol. I love keeping trash and livestock feed out of my SUV lol.

by:

We are very happy with our purchase of the cargo carrier. Works great, looks great. Thank you so much.

by:

Great product, great price, great packaging, fast delivery. Will buy more products soon. Only issue was pin to attach to receiver not included.

  • Will the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier # M2200 Fit on a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban with Class III Hitch
To determine if the Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier, # M2200, will fit on your 1998 Chevrolet Suburban we will need to know one measurement. This cargo carrier measures 4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the of the carrier. On your vehicle, you will want to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch to the furthest rearward point on your bumper. If this distance is less than 4 inches, then you can use this carrier. If you have...

  • Cargo Net Options for Carpod M2205 Walled Cargo Carrier
I'd recommend the SportRack cargo net, part # SR0035. At 60 x 20 inches, it's a little longer than you'd actually need, but you can run the net down both ends of the carrier to stretch it tight. This would be the best fitting alternative for the Carpod # M2205 you'd looked at. Another alternative would be a cargo bag like # M2202 which is specially designed to fit the Carpod carrier. I've linked to product videos for the carrier and the bag I mentioned above.

The Draw-Tite # 75758 is also a good option, but not all the sensors of a Hands-Free Liftgate will work with this hitch, although the install is slightly easier. Only possible solution would be a different cargo carrier that has more rise to it's shank.
