Video Transcript for Redline Trailer Brakes BRKH10B Review

Today we're going to take a look at the mounting hardware for 10" brake assemblies. This hardware will allow you to install two trailer brake assemblies to the 4-bolt brake mounting flange on the trailer axle. This hardware is designed to fit the 10" brake assemblies that already have the mounting bolts installed on the assemblies. These will work with electric or hydraulic brakes. It includes everything shown here on the table. It includes eight of the 7/16 by 20 nuts, and they do have a head size of 11/16. Here's a socket that has 11/16.

You can see it fits perfectly. It comes also with the eight lock washers. So, this would be all used to install the assemblies to your axle. That should do it for the review on the mounting hardware for 10" brake assemblies.

After some difficulty removing the nuts on the back of the brake mounting plate, I decided to just order new hardware and toss the old nuts and washers away. Replacement hardware arrived within two days, did not delay re-assy as weather rained. Just a note, I would recommend that e-trailer just include the hardware when you order replacement brake assemblies. 7/16 x 20 nuts are not that common.

by:

The bag of mounting hardware only had the nuts in it. No washers in the bag as the photo indicates. For 16 nuts and bolts, I felt that this was overpriced when I ordered it, but I bought it out of convenience and to save a trip to the hardware store. Showed up without the washers so I had to go to the hardware store anyhow to get the washers. So I ended up paying $14 for 16 nuts that I could have just bought at the hardware store for $1 when I bought the washers. I don't know if the bag I received was packed wrong (no washers) or if the photo on the website was misleading?

Gosh, I am so sorry you ended up having to run to the store - you shouldnt have to do that! The picture is accurate - your bag was missing the washers. I have sent your information to our customer service team to have them contact you about the missing pieces and what we can do to make it right.

by:

Worked good, but I would personally prefer nyloc locking nuts.

by:

these arrived fine and as described - these don't appear to be zinc coated - I could not find anything in product description on rust resistance - suppose i will paint.

Worked out fine. Ideally for me these would be stainless for a boat trailer but I ended up painting to protect and should be ok.

by:

Quality of product is good. The wrong size of lock washers were sent which is the reason for the 3 star review. Called customer service to let them know so shipping mistakes were not made in the future. With the old brakes removed, and the trailer on jack stands, I wasn’t going to wait 3 days for a new shipment, so I had to make a trip to the hardware store to complete the installation. Not going to raise a fuss over an $8 mistake.

by:

Appear to be quality metal; matched up to my Dexter axles and hubs, no issues.
Arrived a couple days after the break kits and hubs; caused a small delay but no issue for me since did not need the trailer currently.

by:

As advertised

by:

You'd think this should be standard to come with the brake assembly but it wasn't. I could have reused the existing but these are nice and clean and new.

by:

I couldn't find this item,in-stock, anywhere locally. I should've got it from etrailer.com fromthe start.

by:

Great, fast shipping. I am confused because somewhere I read that if you buy the Right and Left set of brakes, the mounting nuts are free. Someone posted they had to buy the nuts. So, I ordered them too. P.S. they didn't send any extra nuts.

by:

Great service. Quick shipment on brake assemblies and tires. Competitive pricing. Found myself a new supplier.

by:

Very nice, fast shipping!

by:

the packaging was poor at best. nuts and washers were loose in the box hardly any packaging in the box and because of how it was packaged the insulation on some of the wires was worn away and wires were exposed. I wont be buying from them again unless I absolutely have to.

I understand your frustration with receiving the order in this manner. I will share this feedback with our shipping department and I will have our customer service team reach out to you.

by:

Excellent quality nuts and washers. If doing brakes, there is no reason to reuse the old mounting hardware!

Everything is great! Just had our Band Boosters order new wheels and tires from etrailer!

by:

Well, you may not see the actual brake controller in these shots, but I wanted to display just how much etrailer product was used to restore this old trailer. Re-decked the trailer, new wheel bearings, added brakes on all 4 with this brake controller and battery powered emergency disconnect... new rust protection, primer and paint, new lights and wiring all the way around, new wiring harness/box, and new tire carrier. Nearly all product except the decking and paint was from etrailer. the customer support was fantastic, I highly recommend this company!

by:

Great option if your installing new brake assemblies, don't have to deal with old hardware.

These parts work just fine

by:

I installed the brakes on the front axle of my boat trailer that carries a 21' fiberglass deep hull off shore boat. They work good as long as you have the controls set to the proper amount of gain. Even with the 5000# weight of my boat if I have the gain too high and hit the brakes too hard they will lock up. This is my second set for the same trailer. I found that no matter what you do not immerse them in saltwater. When I am going into saltwater I remove the brakes and put regular trailer hubs on until I am no longer in the saltwater environment. It's a hassle but I have never felt safe with surge brakes.

by:

It was nice to receive a product that was everything it stated in the ad. Nicely done, I was able to complete putting on new brakes in an hour.

by:

New brake assemblies came with hardware so I bought these for nothing because the telephone specialist said I need them.

In the product descriptions for the brake assemblies, we mention that the mounting hardware is sold separately.

by:

Fit well, no issues.

Ordered brake assemblies for all four wheels on a 3500 lb. 2-axle travel trailer with mounting hardware and heat shrinking wire connectors. Everything was very high quality and assembly took about 45 mins. per wheel. It also shipped in two days so I couldn't be happier about the transaction. Thanks.

by:

Very nice, brake assembly, very quick service, thank you

by:

I’ve been well pleased with the trailer hubs , drums, and electric break assembly and the price was very satisfactory. Made a noticeable difference in in the tow ability of my camper. I’ve recommended this product and etrailer to a number of friends. Will definitely be shopping with you when I need parts.

Work just like they should.

  • Can I Use Self Adjusting Brakes in Place of Manually Adjusting Brakes on my 5th Wheel
Yes, you can replace your old manually adjusting brakes with a set of self adjusting brakes without any issues. You'll want to determine the size of the drums on your trailer axles, which can usually be easily determine by your axle capacity. If you've got 10 inch drums and tandem/triple 3500-lbs axles then you'll want to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. • Replacement Axle and Brakes for 87 Inch Long 3,500 Pound Axle on Travel Trailer
Thank you for providing that information. Although we do not have an 87" axle available, you can use the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 89" Long - 3,500 lbs # e38GR. Since this axle is 89" long it will stick out an extra inch on either side of the travel trailer. Also, the spring center is 74" so you will need to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS238 to match your 68-1/2" measurement. For brakes I recommend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA. These self-adjusting...

  • How to Determine What Electric Brakes Fit Load Star Tow Dolly
Possibly, but we don't have anything specific for a Load Star tow dolly or know what size brakes it needs so you'll need to check a few things. One is the weight capacity you need, the other is the size of the drum, and another is the brake flange bolt pattern. For example, the Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA are for 3,500 lb axles, measure 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide (so that is the drum size they fit in) and fit a 4-bolt mounting flange that has bolt holes which measure 2-7/8"...

  • Which Hub, Drum and Brakes Do I Need for 3500-lbs Axle with L44649 Outer Bearing
I may have a solution for you, but there is not an L44549 bearing; it's possible that you mean the # L44649, which is a fairly common bearing and can be found in many hubs that fit on 3500-lbs axles. For a 3,500 lb axle with outer bearing # L44649 and inner bearing # L68149 (1.378" inner diameter) you could use the Bearing Kit # BK2-100 or get a complete hub and drum assembly with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-545-35-K; this hub and drum has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern, which...

The Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA and other etrailer branded brakes have the same quality that you would find with a more expensive brake assembly. Since they are etrailer branded, we are able to keep the cost down by comparison. These have been tested by QAI and meet the certification requirements of the CSA. • Determining Correct Replacement Brakes for 1973 South Park 1700 Travel Trailer
In order to find the correct electric brakes for your 1973 South Park 1700 you will need to identify what you currently have. Brakes typically correspond with axle capacity and need to match the brake flange bolt pattern as well as the size of the drum on your hub and drum assembly. More than likely you have at least a 3,500 lb axle/axles on your travel trailer so we will start there. They give you an improved ride compared to a traditional through-axle because they work independently, so if there is a bump on one side of the road it won't rattle your entire trailer, and they have progressive springs that absorb shock better than a traditional axle.
