Video Transcript for Review of ABS Fasteners 1-3/4 Castle Nut Cotter Pin - 165649

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this one eighth of an inch cotter pin. This is going to help to secure your castle nut, so that you don't have to worry about that castle nut coming off. So each arm of this pin is about one sixteenth of an inch, so when you have them combined there, it is gonna be one eighth of an inch. As far as our length goes, our overall measurement, we're looking at right two and a quarter of an inch there. Our usable length from the inside of that bend to the shorter arm, is going to be right at, call it one and three quarters of an inch.

So this is going to be made of a rough steel construction so it should do a really good job for you making sure that castle nut stays in place so that you don't have to worry about that coming off. So if you are needing a replacement one eighth inch thick cotter pin, this is going to do a great job for you. You are just gonna get the one pin with this part number so if you need multiple, obviously just increase your quantity. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

1-3/4" Long cotter pin locks a castle nut (sold separately) in place.

The two cotter pins that were ordered, were not in the package anywhere.

We have a 2022 Forest River Forester 2551DSLE. Unfortunately it really doesn't come with a usable spare tire holder or a spare for that matter. It had a 4" steel bolt pointing straight down that would be completely worthless. No way I'd be strong enough to get a 75lb tire up there. After lots of measuring this was my only solution. BAL makes 2 products but neither would fit. I mounted 2 X 1" square aluminum bars for the tire to rest against. The winch itself mounted with 2 5/16 stainless hex bolts with nylon topped nuts to keep them from coming loose. The round bar that winches the tire into place uses a 1/8" cotter pin to hold it in place. The hole for the cotter in the bar was drilled in the wrong place so I had to cut off about 1/4" of the tube to get it to fit. I used an original Ford 16" wheel for an e450. The fitting that holds the wheel is about 7". Make sure it is centered as you winch the tire into place. Once up and properly in place it seems secure. Hopefully this will solve our problem of no spare. I would have given this 5 stars if everything would have lined up out of the box. The winch itself seems to be pretty heavy duty and this is the kind of thing that hopefully won't need to be used that often.

Just repacked bearings with new seals on my 4' x 8' folding utility trailer. Customer service was great in helping me with selecting the right parts including cotter pins. All is good now. I have been ordering from etrailer for 10 + years. Great place with great people!

Great

by:

Always have a great experience when ordering from etrailer. The few times I have had to return something, usually because I ordered the wrong size or part, returns are very easy.

by:

A really great cotter pin.

by:

Always a pleasure to deal with etrailer!

by:

Bought these when I packed my bearings on two Dexter 3500# axles on my travel trailer. I never reuse cotter pins when they are fairly cheap to buy. These were the right size.

by:

The original bearing savers, they are easy to install and paired with the Bearing Buddy bearing seals they are a reliable way to protect your boat trailer wheel bearings.

by:

Very fast shipping, much appreciated, hopefully is the right part, if it isn't that is on me for looking it up wrong but I won't get a chance to put it to the test for another couple weeks, so, I guess I could have waited to order it until later lol

by:

Well I'm sorry to inform you that when I opened the box. I had a left kit, a right kit and an empty bag. After looking in the box closer under the flaps I found a washer and a nut. That was all.

One year later and everything worked perfectly.

by:

Products arrived on time and went on smoothly within an hour, hubs and bearings on an older single axle trailer we use for canoes. Finally learned the bearing process and first hand in hopes of more successful trips without trailer problems.

by:

Excellent service very knowledgeable.

by:

These are a key part of my hub clean and repacking the bearings. The cotter pins fit nicely and are easy to bend around once through the axle.

by:

The bearing seal was for an old 1963 Scotsman. If fit just fine, I am very happy with the results. Thanks etrailer - Dave

by:

This cotter pin was great, it performed like a cotter pin should.

by:

Perfect fit Came a day early too

by:

I bought 4 inner bearings, 4 outer bearings, 4 seals and 4 cotter pins. These were loose in the box, bought 4 only recieved 3.

The Bearing Kit # BK1-100 contains the bearings, races and grease seal commonly found on a BT8 Spindle. It appears that your spindle on your 2002 Karavan PWC Trailer uses a combination of the two kits. • Spindle Nut Recommendation for a 3,500 lb Axle
Since you have a 3,500 lb axle most likely the diameter of the threaded portion of the spindle is 1 inch. You will need to verify that. And since the spindle has a hole in it for a cotter pin you would need a castle nut. For that I would recommend the Trailer Spindle Nut # 165686. For a compatible cotter pin I would recommend the Cotter Pin part # 165649. The Spindle Nut Kit # RG05-100 that you referenced is for a different style spindle so I would not recommend it for you.

We do carry the bearings you asked about as well as the race. I was unable to find a reference for the grease seal or a size, but according to the size of the other components I believe it is part # RG06-050.. • Where Does Flat Washer Go
I was unable to find an order number so I'm not certain exactly what you are referring to, but in general a flat washer such as Washer For 1" Spindle # SW1000 will go between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on, which essentially works to protect the bearing. These washers are used on spindles with a spindle nut such as Spindle Nut 1" # 165686 and Cotter Pin # 165649.

  • Identifying Bearings, Grease Seal, and Spindle on Trailer
The hole in the end of your spindle is pretty standard. An EZ lube spindle would have the zerk fitting on the end, along with a hole on the spindle for the grease to come out and fill the hub like you can see on the # TRU74FR. There is nothing for a grease gun that would thread into that, and if it did the grease wouldn't have anywhere to go. Unfortunately, most trailer manufacturers don't make bearing and seal information readily available. It would be nice if everything you needed was...

  • Should There Be a Washer on Trailer Spindle Between Spindle Nut and Outer Bearing
There really should be a flat washer between the outer bearing of your hub and the nut that holds it on. The washer protects the back side of the bearing from the edges and points on the back side of the spindle nut. The Washer For 1 inch Spindle, # SW1000, is typically used on spindles that have a castle nut, like # 165686, and a cotter pin, # 165649. A D washer, # 5-23, would be used on a spindle that has a flat side and uses the same castle nut and cotter pin setup. A Tongue Washer,...
